Dustin Lance Black and Gus Van Sant are bringing a Gay Miniseries to ABC

ABC ordered a gay-rights miniseries called, “When We Rise” from Dustin Lance Black and Gus Van Sant.

This miniseries will feature stories of LGBT folks throughout the gay civil rights movement. The series will focus on the Stonewall riots to now.

Here's my issue... the series description claims that it will show "setbacks and triumphs of a diverse family of LGBT men and women who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the U.S. Civil Rights movement from its turbulent infancy in the 20th century to the once unfathomable successes of today."

Okay, but will it be diverse?

Will we see people of color featured in these stories? And not interracial stuff, I mean couples of color. Those stories are RARELY seen in any major LGBT TV/Film project. Will we see diverse faces, or just another Ryan Murphy-ish cast?

I hoping for the best, but I'm not holding my breath.

ABC picks up “Marvel’s Agent Carter”

This is so bitchin'.

Not only did ABC granted “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” a second season, but the also picked up “Marvel’s Agent Carter” as well!

Agent Peggy Carter was a big part of Captain America and a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the early days. I'm sure her adventures will give us a glimpse of the golden age of the Marvel Universe. It's a great move for ABC and Marvel for this series.

However, I don't think Diana Prince is pleased

ABC Greenlights ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’ Marvel Pilot

Big Geek news! ABC wants Marvel and Joss! They have greelit the SHIELD pilot! Deadline has the scoop.

ABC has ordered a pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D, a live-action series from The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon, Marvel TV and ABC Studios. The project is based on Marvel’s peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D (which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) found in both the Marvel comic book and feature film universes, including the blockbuster 2012 movie The Avengers, in which S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury, recruits Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor to stop Thor’s adoptive brother Loki from subjugating Earth.

S.H.I.E.L.D. will be written by Whedon and frequent collaborators, his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Joss Whedon also is set to direct the pilot, schedule permitting.

This is good for Joss and Marvel! So excited!

ABC's New Pilot basically copies 'American Horror Story'

Okay, here's something that not surprising. American Horror Story was crazy, but successful. Successful enough to gain copy cats.

The first copy cat, ABC's '666 Park Avenue'. Here's the scoop:

The thriller, based on the Gabriella Pierce book series of the same name, centers on a young couple (Annable and his not-yet-cast spouse) that accepts an offer to manage one of the most historic apartment buildings in New York City. They unwittingly begin to experience supernatural occurrences, which complicate and endanger the lives of everyone in the building.

I know it not exactly the same, but the idea is similar (couple, haunting things. I hope this is the only one.

Another one? Now, ABC orders a version of 'Beauty and the Beast'

Last week, CW ordered a reboot of the 80s version of 'Beauty and the Beast'. Now, ABC has ordered another version as well.

The female-skewing network is moving forward with its reimagining of the classic fairy tale set in a mythical, dangerous world where a beautiful and tough princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast.

Human Target scribe Jonathan E. Steinberg (Jericho) will pen the project with Gary Fleder (Life Unexpected) and Mary Beth Basile (October Road) attached to executive produce the ABC Studios project through their Mojo Films shingle.

Um, why? Two shows with the same name and similar tones? Doesn't seem like a smart move from ABC. No ma'am.

ABC Dumps 'Work It'

ABC just axed the messy, 'Bosom Buddies' RIP OFF, 'Work It'.

This show drew HUGE criticism from Trans community over their sloppy attempt to tell a story. Plus the writing was broke.

Out of the gate, Work It was dismissed by both critics (who criticized its brand of comedy) and the gay community (for the message it supposedly communicated). The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and the Human Rights Campaign took to out an ad in a Hollywood trade to show how the sitcom that starred Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break) and Benjamin Koldyke (How I Met Your Mother) have a negative impact on the transgender community. Using photos of transgender Americans, an ad in Variety features statistics from the National Center for Transgender Equality and the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force on discrimination to demonstrate how the comedy could be misinterpreted by viewers.

ABC Entertainment Chief Paul Lee told reporters last week that he didn’t understand the response from the advocacy groups. He has said in the past that, as a Brit, he appreciates the cheeky humor that comes with cross-dressing comedies like the Dustin Hoffman movie Tootsie.

GLAAD’s senior director of programs Herndon Graddick released this statement today: “While many of ABC’s positive and groundbreaking portrayals of LGBT people have been critical and popular successes, the public had little interest in this outdated show. As a result of this campaign, an important dialogue has been started in Hollywood and mainstream media about the real discrimination faced by transgender people today.” 

Unlike 'Tootsie', this premise was not cute.

Marvel Comics Heroine, Jessica Jones, may be ABC's new series star

Jessica Jones from Alias and The Avengers may be getting her own show on ABC.

Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg adapting a TV series called AKA Jessica Jones, based on the gritty, sarcastic comic book detective.

Jessica, under the superhero name is Jewel, had a short-lived superhero career that ended in horror. She was kidnapped via mind control by one Zebediah Killgrave for 8 months. During this time she was forced to strip and watch him rape other women (also under his mind control). Jessica eventually escapes and is promptly beaten into a coma by the Avengers she was ordered to attack while mind-controlled. Once she's safe from Killgrave, Jessica quits the superhero lifestyle and decides to fight crime by opening up her own detective agency.

Melissa likes the character because she a bit flawed. I also like that about Jessica as well. Her character is quite interesting, so if Melissa and ABC do it right, this show could be good.

ABC remember Eastwick? I guess not.

The end is near for our island folks. The crazy, but exciting series, Lost is coming to an end.

However, the are more than one way this show could go out.

Eastwick is Dead

I saw this coming, but the faux witch series is canceled.

ABC has picked up five more episodes of Tuesday night crime drama "The Forgotten" while deciding against ordering additional episodes of Wednesday's "Eastwick."

The Christian Slater procedural has been the stronger of the duo, both of which are produced by Warner Bros. and air at 10 p.m. "Eastwick" will finish production on 13 episodes and ABC plans to run them all.

Too bad, but it was kinda boring and the "Devil" wasn't sexy enough.

Oh well, nice try, girls.

Diana will Attack the Earth again

Well, if you were tired of Horror remakes, Sci-Fi is next in line for the rehash bomb.

I give you, the return of ...V

ABC has officially greenlit a pilot for its reworking of "V," the 1980s miniseries about alien lizards coming down to Earth (Daily Variety, Oct. 10).

New adaptation of the franchise was written by "The 4400" co-creator/exec producer Scott Peters. Peters is aboard to exec produce along with HDFilms principal Jason Hall. Warner Bros. TV, which was behind the original longform, is producing.

The new "V" centers on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with an aimless son. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them -- causing tension within the family.

Like the original, show centers on visitors who say they've come to help the Earth -- but their motives are nefarious.

Original "V" writer-producer Kenneth Johnson is not involved in the new edition. The 1983 longform spawned a sequel and then a weekly series that lasted one season.

It could be good, so I'll keep an open mind

The Fall Season will have Witches

ABC has confirmed that The Witches of Eastwick or Eastwick will grace the screen next season. The script will be based from the movie, the John Updike novel, and 2002 script that included the Desperate Housewife, Marcia Cross as one of the witches.
