Finally, Something Inspired from the Equality March... GetEQUAL

I am happy to hear about this, because I was beginning... well, really I was already thinking the Equality March didn't move much forward, but it inspired a new group...

GetEQUAL

Our mission at GetEQUAL is simple: to create a movement of everyday people—lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and straight—who are dedicated to bringing about full legal and social equality. We believe there are millions of Americans who are tired of waiting and are ready to act. Our goal is to serve and grow this constituency by helping them take strategic, coordinated, bold action to demand equality, and to hold accountable those who stand in the way.

We know it will take all of us working together to reach our goals, so we seek to create a broad and inclusive community. GetEQUAL will bring together people of every sex, gender, race, class, age, ability, look, religion, family status, or citizenship; those who can contribute in small ways, and those who are able to put themselves on the line. United, we can build a more powerful movement to demand change. We invite you to join us, and ask your friends and family to do the same.

Human Rights Campaign HQ Glamdalized By Queers Against Assimilation HRC headquarters was rocked by an act of glamdalism last night by a crew of radical queer and allied folks armed with pink and black paint and glitter grenades.

Beside the front entrance and the inscribed mission statement now reads a tag, “Quit leaving queers behind.”

The HRC is not a democratic or inclusive institution, especially for the people who they claim to represent. Just like society today, the HRC is run by a few wealthy elites who are in bed with corporate sponsors who proliferate militarism, heteronormativity, and capitalist exploitation.

The sweatshops (Nike), war crimes (Lockheed Martin), assaults on working class people (Bank of America, Deloitte, Chase Bank, Citi Group, Wachovia Bank) and patriarchy (American Apparel) caused by their sponsors is a hypocrisy for an organization with “human rights” in their name. The queer liberation movement has been misrepresented and co-opted by the HRC.

The HRC marginalizes us into a limited struggle for aspiring homosexual elites to regain the privilege that they’ve lost and climb the social ladder towards becoming bourgeoisie. Last night, Obama spoke at the HRC fundraising gala and currently the HRC website declares, “President Obama underlines his unwavering support for LGBT Americans.” The vast amount of organizing resources the HRC wastes on their false alliance with the Democratic party leaves radical queers on the margins to fend for themselves.

Our struggle has always had to resist the repression of conservative tendencies in government and society to gain liberation in our lives. The gourmet affair was sponsored by 48 corporations including giants Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, and Wachovia Bank. At $250 dollars a plate the HRC served our movement a rich, white, heternormative atmosphere that purposefully excludes working class queer folks.

REMEMBER THE STONEWALL RIOTS! On the 40th anniversary of Stonewall, pigs raided a queer bar in Texas, arrested and beat our friends, and we looked towards politicians and lawyers to protect us. This mentality is what keeps the money flowing to the HRC and their pet Democrats, and keeps our fists in our pockets. Most of all we disagree that collective liberation will be granted by the state or its institutions like prisons, marriage, and the military. We need to escalate our struggle, or it will collapse.

Randall Terry believes we are Cultural Axis of Evil

Randall Terry, Director, Operation Rescue Insurrecta Nex, is gathering forces to combat the National Equality March supporters.

This is what he had to say:

"The child-killing movement and the 'homosexual marriage' have formed an unbreakable bond - a 'cultural axis of evil' - because they both spring from the same root: the rejection of God's Law and Natural Law concerning human sexuality and procreation.

"President Obama does America and the nations of the world a great disservice by legitimizing this self destructive, degrading behavior by speaking at the HRC banquet. On one day he speaks at Notre Dame, talking about the common good, and then proceeds to attack life and marriage in his policies, thereby destroying the common good. It is shameful."

He also has a press release:

Christians will gather at two key locations to remind homosexual marchers that God loves them, and they can be redeemed, but society cannot "normalize" a self-destructive behavior that can rob a human being of their eternal soul. Christians will bear witness to the truth: God made marriage to be a sacred covenant and sacrament between a man and a woman, and His Laws and order cannot be nullified - not by them, not by the Courts, and not by President Obama.

Yesterday on Michelangelo Signorile radio show, Barney had some interesting things to say about the National Equality March, Michelangelo posted this on his site:

Barney Frank believes the march this weekend and rally on the mall are "useless" and don't put pressure on the White House. "I literally don't understand how this will do anything," he said. "People are kidding themselves. I don't want people patting themselves on the back for doing something that is useless." Besides, he says, "Barack Obama does not need pressure." He says we should model ourselves as lobbyists on "the National Rifle Association." He says people should not come to Washington and should stay home and lobby their members of Congress. "Nobody in Congress even knows they're there, he says, and he is not attending the March: He is going to California to raise money for himself and other Democrats.

Please Let Obama Mutha F**king Speak! Yes, this is a Rant

So I'm back in my defending Obama mode...

I am bothered by folks talking about what Obama's going to say, what he should say and what he needs to say.

Pipe down, folks!

Whatever he's going to say, I'm hopeful it will be good. But it feels like if he says anything it ain't going to satisfy anybody.

It's ridic that the community is getting all big in the mouth about his speech Saturday night.

He's going to do what he can with what he's got. We saw how health care went down, do we think LGBT rights will any easier? My God, I think some folks are living in Wonderland went it comes to this issue.


This is all I ask from our community.

• Stop predicting he will say nothing that's good enough.
• Stop hoping for a disaster in his speech.
• Stop complaining about the time it may take to repeal DADT. Until WE come up with an initial plan to overturn DADT, we should not get pissed off. Hell, they are trying to do the s**t right, let them do it!
• Stop talking about how Obama can multi-task. I don't want my rights in midst of FEMA, the UN and when Bo will get his nuts cut off.

Let's try something new, folks. How about we hope for the best. With any great movement, it takes time and patience. I'm done with some us acting like the gay teabaggers.

Obama will Holla at the HRC before the National Equality March

President Obama is doing the damn thing.

He will be addressing the HRC during their annual dinner on the night before the Equality March.

While it remains to be seen what Mr. Obama’s appearance at the dinner will do to his standing in the eyes of gay rights activists, his speech may mollify some of their concerns.

His appearance will mark only the second time a sitting president has spoken to the Human Rights Campaign. The first time was in 1997 when Bill Clinton spoke to the group. That was the first time a sitting president had ever addressed a gay rights organization.

A person with knowledge of Mr. Obama’s plans confirmed his appearance at the dinner. But this person spoke on the condition of anonymity because a formal announcement is expected later today.

The White House had no comment. A spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment.

Mr. Obama’s speech will coincide with the National Equality March, which is taking place on Sunday and is expected to draw thousands of gay rights supporters to the National Mall.

I think it is good he's speaking that night. I know there will be haters and whiners, however, this is the 2nd president to ever address this group. He is making an effort and I am happy for that.
