Brian Brown: Anti-Gay Movement Fighting for "True Civil Rights"

New Posters: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

The First Publication falls Victim to the Russian Anti-Gay Law

Queer Russia reports that the first media outlet has been fined due to the Anti-gay propaganda law.

Editor-in-Chief of the Molodoi Dalnevostochnik newspaper, Alexander Suturin, was fined 50,000 rubles ($1,400 in US money). He wrote an article about a teacher being fired because he was gay. Also, the paper was targeted because of their website's warning label. They allow people above the age of 16 to visit its website. The age of majority in Russia is 18.

Alexander said he would appeal. However, I'm surprised this is the first one. You would think there would be multiple ones... Interesting.

It's Gets Better for Looking... In the Ratings

Looking actually gain some viewers. According to Futon Critic, Looking had around 466,000 adults 18-49 watching. That's about an 0.37 rating.

A bit better than the 338,000 debut, but not good. These numbers are still cancellation numbers. Maybe it will get better... Maybe.

Interesting Quote: IOC member Dick Pound

"Nobody has got anything else to write about and for some reason as they have sort of moved away from the anti-gay stuff — I think it’s not drawing the kind of attention that they wanted. In Malaysia, you can be put to death. In Nigeria, you can be put in jail for God knows how long. So it’s a target of convenience with respect to Russia, not that I approve of the law, but putting it on a scale of 1-10 of odious laws, it’s not way up there near 10. So whose ox is getting gored here?”

NOM's List of Athletes who should've received Special Recognition at the State of the Union

NOM wasn't excited about Jason Collins sitting in the Box Seats, so they created a list of athletes that should've been there.

Albert Pujols, the Dominican-born MLB pitcher and a devout Christian, is the founder and chairman of the Pujols Family Foundation, a charity benefiting people with Down syndrome and whose mission statement is "to live and share our commitment to faith, family and others."

Larry Fitzgerald, an NFL wide receiver, founded The First Down Fund which has built an impressive resume of charitable giving and special projects, including providing summer youth programming for urban youth in America and helping to fund research for childhood illnesses.

Eli Manning, (who hardly needs an introduction as to his professional talents), is less known for his having raised $2.5 mil. for the University of Mississippi's Medical Center's Children's Hospital and many other charitable contributions.

Clayton KershawClayton Kershaw, a Cy Young Award winner and three-time All Star in the National League has been inducted into the Baseball Humanitarians Hall of Fame, donates significant portions of his paychecks to causes in Africa and helped build a successful orphanage in Zambia.

Steve Smith, the NFL wide receiver, is the NFL ambassador to a charity called Samaritan's Feet, which gives shoes to homeless people, and he has personally participated in the charity's practice of washing their aid recipients' feet, a beautiful ritual imbued with Biblical meaning.

Jeremy Affeldt, the San Francisco Giant's pitcher, has worked for years preventing sex trafficking of young women around the world with an initiative called the NotForSale campaign.

Tim Tebow, the NFL player most known for his public manifestations of his Christian faith, practices what he preaches, having built a $3 mil. hospital in the Philippines, in addition to host in regular charity events and participating in Make-a-Wish programs.

Indiana Marriage Bill UPDATE: House passes HJR-3

The Indiana House has passed HJR-3 with a 57-40 vote. The bill moves to the Senate, however, they have to approve new language to replace the second sentence that was struck from the amendment yesterday.

So, even if the Senate passes the amended version, it won't be ready for the 2014 ballot. Who knows how this is going to go down.

Will keep y'all posted.

An Active College Football Player comes Out

Willamette University Football player, Conner Mertens came out as bisexual to his team and now, the world. He hopes to inspire other LGBT athletes to come out and be true to themselves.

Outsports has his whole story, but I think he is the first out college football player ever. Some folks may say that his school isn't as big as Florida's or my school (USC), but still, what Conner did is amazing.

Congrats, Conner.

Indiana House strips Key Language from HJR-3

This is interesting.

The Indiana House voted 52-43 to snatch key language from the House Joint Resolution 3 (HJR-3). That vote struck down the second sentence of the amendment that would've banned legal recognition of any relationship that is “identical or substantially similar” to marriage.

Because of that removal, HJR-3 can't go to the ballot for a while. This is considered a victory for our community.

But I can't help but to wonder if the haters have something up their sleeve.

To me, it was special to all the couples we married today and I look forward to dashing off to go sign their marriage certificates. It’s awesome. Tweet of the Next Day: Todd Starnes

Interesting Quote: Bristol Palin on Wendy Davis

Is everyone paying attention? This woman is the hero of the Left? A woman whose ambition and ego were so big she couldn’t have both a career and kids at the same time.

Gosh, children are sooo inconvenient, huh? I’m glad my mother didn’t put motherhood on the shelf when she was elected to City Council, then became our mayor, then Governor. Oh sorry – I mentioned my mother… Have you liberals gone into a tail spin of hate already? Did I lose you?

I know you would rather think about Wendy Davis, so let’s get back to her. She’s more your type of woman. She left her kid, husband, made it into a false “made-for-tv-movie-type-tale” and then demanded that Texans have the right to kill babies. That’s the woman you libs can really get behind!

Let me be clear. I think it’d be so nice to have a husband take care of me, and my son, so I could attend school. (Any school — let alone, Harvard!)

But the way Wendy Davis did it – by getting married and leaving him as soon as the ink dried on his last check – is downright pathetic.

Plus, it perfectly shows that – no matter what they say – feminism is a farce. If you truly believe in strong, independent women, you’d be a conservative.

Um, Bristol... You got knocked up by Levi Johnston. Have a seat.

Wonder Woman in Justice League: WAR

Interesting Quote: Thomas Perkins

"I would call attention to the parallels of fascist Nazi Germany to its war on its 'one percent,' namely its Jews, to the progressive war on the American one percent, namely the 'rich.'

From the Occupy movement to the demonization of the rich embedded in virtually every word of our local newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle, I perceive a rising tide of hatred of the successful one percent. There is outraged public reaction to the Google buses carrying technology workers from the city to the peninsula high-tech companies which employ them. We have outrage over the rising real-estate prices which these 'techno geeks' can pay."

What Really happened with Pavel Lebedev and the Coca-Cola Homophobic Police Squad?

So, I've been following this Pavel Lebedev story and found myself amazed at how an incident can get twisted. Pavel was detained for protesting against the Anti-gay law at the Olympic torch relay in Russia. However, the story has been on the uniforms the security guards were wearing.

Their uniforms have Coke's logo on them. They are a sponsor, no secret there. But because their logo is there, some LGBT bloggers and activists believe they are supporting hate and the attack of Pavel. Some folks have written conspiracy theories, claiming that Coke is trying oppress gays all over the world.

After a few bloggers questioned Coke, Coke responded (here's a piece of their response)

As a Presenting Partner of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay, our logo appears on all of the uniforms for the staff assigned by the Sochi Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) to support the Torch Relay.

SOCOG reported that a spectator was prevented from breaching the security perimeter around the Torchbearer. The spectator was detained briefly by local police and was fined.

We hope this information is helpful and encourage you to contact us again should you have additional comments or questions.

Jeffrey CIndustry and Consumer AffairsThe Coca-Cola Company

Okay, so security prevented Pavel to breaching the perimeter. I get that, it's their job to keep areas protected. Was it because Pavel is gay? I'm not sure. On a real tip, this is what security guards do. I live in LA, this is a normal thing to see. If you breach the perimeter, you get busted! How did their basic responsibility become an anti-gay attack?

This is one of my biggest pet peeves with some activists. Sometimes they take something simple and twist it all the way around the corner and around the Moon. I get that it's a major issue, but we can't be careless and ridic about this. Please, stick to the facts and not hype.

This law sucks, but twisting the truth and fooling our readers, suck rotten eggs.

NOM and Brian Brown calls for the impeachment of Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring over Gay Marriage

Brian Brown is foolishness. But we all knew that, right?

Following yesterday's announcement from VA Attorney General Mark Herring about Gay Marriage, Brian wrote this mess:

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today called for the impeachment of Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring for "malfeasance" and "neglect of duty" and violating his sworn oath of office to support the constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Instead of defending the Commonwealth's duly enacted marriage amendment, Herring is supporting a federal lawsuit by gay activists to redefine marriage in Virginia's constitution.

"The Attorney General swore an oath that he would 'support...the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia' and faithfully discharge his duties, which include defending duly enacted laws like the state's marriage amendment," said Brian Brown, NOM's president. "Yet now Attorney General Herring is participating in a lawsuit against the very people he is sworn to represent, the citizens of Virginia who preserved marriage in their constitution. This malfeasance and neglect of duty is not only a disgrace, it's an impeachable offense under the constitution."

Section 17 of the Virginia state constitution provides that the Attorney General may be impeached for "malfeasance in office, corruption, neglect of duty or other high crime or misdemeanor."

You can read the rest here, but seriously, Brian... What can y'all do? NOM is half way broke and your power is waning. The best thing you can do, is to have a seat.
