Anti-Gay Lawmaker caught on Grindr raises questions on Outing

Over the weekend, Virginia's LGBT newspaper, GayRVA posted some interesting information about one of their GOP lawmakers.

This lawmaker was caught on Grindr. No big deal, right? Well, this lawmaker has an strong anti-gay record in the state.

To see an anti-gay lawmaker on the gay hook-up website is truly something to talk about. But there's been issues about outing this particular person. Journalist Brad Kutner (who broke the story) will not out the lawmaker. He said:

“Outing” someone is not something to be taken lightly and often comes off as tacky or vengeful. The legislator we’re addressing with this letter has a voting record which would make an openly gay man shake their head in disgust, but he hasn’t been specifically vocal on LGBTQ issues. This is one of the reasons we’re choosing to leave them anonymous, however we hope this message reaches their desk and they’ll consider the words below if and when they have a chance to vote on LGBTQ related bills in the future.

Interesting. I know many folks would out this guy for his self-hating actions. However, does Brad have a point? Is it petty to out this guy?

Reporter and Cameraman Murdered during Live News Broadcast

I woke up to this news.

Two journalists with Roanoke, Virginia-based news station WDBJ were killed Wednesday in a shooting that took place during a live broadcast.

Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, died shortly after the incident, the station announced. Multiple shots rang out at around 6:45 a.m. during a broadcast from Smith Mountain Lake in the community of Moneta.

Augusta County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to The Huffington Post that they are searching for suspect Vester Lee Flanagan, 41.

Local station WHSV said on Twitter that authorities were pursuing the suspect on the interstate.

"We believe it was a disgruntled employee who fired at the TV crew," Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) said Wednesday morning in an online Q&A session.

Around 10:30 a.m., the governor said the arrest of the suspect was "imminent."

Vicki Gardner, the woman Parker was interviewing, was shot in the back and is undergoing surgery, CNN reports. Gardner is the executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Later Wednesday morning, WDBJ General Manager Jeff Marks was somber as he explained to their viewers what had occurred, calling the shooting "a terrible crime against two fine journalists."

The Supreme Court is continuing the stay on gay marriages in Virginia. Again, this is minor.

As we have seen so far, the judges have blocked most of these marriage cases while they are being appealed. So, I'm not worried. However, you know the haters will celebrate this short stop, but in the end... we win.

In Virginia: 4th Circuit Denies Request for Stay on Gay Marriages

Today, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request for a stay on the Virginia gay marriage ruling.

This also bars any intervention by the U.S. Supreme Court! So, if everything is clear, gay marriages in Virginia can start next week!

Virginia AG wants a Review of Same Sex Marriage ruling

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring is asking the Supreme Court to review a decision that removed the state’s ban on gay marriage.

Interesting enough, he supports the lower court’s decision.

He said:

“I believe the district and appeals courts ruled correctly in striking down Virginia’s discriminatory marriage ban, but it has long been clear that the Supreme Court will likely have the final word. I want that decision to come as soon as possible and I want the voices of Virginians to be heard.”

Brian Brown whines over Virginia

"We are extremely disappointed, though not surprised, with today's ruling from the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals invalidating the definition of marriage in Virginia. It is a terrible abuse of power for a court to abandon the definition of marriage which has existed throughout the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia, was adopted by the people and reflects in law the reality of what marriage is, the union of one man and one woman.

"While we condemn the ruling of the majority, we are pleased with the strong dissent authored by Justice Paul Niemeyer who noted that the 'linguistic manipulation' of case law employed by the majority to create a 'fundamental right' to same-sex marriage will also result in 'the right of a father to marry his daughter and the right of any person to marry multiple partners.' Justice Niemeyer's dissent lays bare what the majority has done — they have invented a right to redefine marriage because two justices have substituted their views for the considered opinion of the General Assembly and the voters of the Commonwealth.

"We call on the state to appeal this decision to the US Supreme Court and to vigorously fight for the truth of marriage and the right of the people and the elected representatives of the state to define marriage in law consistent with what it is in reality — the union of one man and one woman."

Fourth Circuit Court just Struck Down Virginia's Gay Marriage Ban

Funny, I just asked which state was next...

Anywho, a federal appeals court panel ruled 2-1 in our favor, saying we have the constitutional right to marry in the state. And get this, the panel has jurisdiction over Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

It will most likely be appealed, I mean, it is Virginia. But isn't it nice to see these states getting on board?

Eric Cantor Loses! WATCH His Concession Speech!

Well, I know you know what happened last night!

Eric Cantor lost his seat to a Tea Partier.

Yes, David Brat was backed and financed by Tea Partiers, claiming that Eric was to liberal (really?). Eric spent over 5M for his campaign, while David barely had over 200K in his chest. Eric's campaign folks didn't think it was a problem.

However, when Eric's numbers were falling, they should've took note. But no, they kept thinking Eric had it in the bag. Then, the truth set in.

After the numbers came in, it was clear that Eric lost. This was a huge upset to the GOP. The very group the loved and hated gained ground and knocked one of the most powerful members in the GOP. Eric had to be embarrassed, he had to.

NOM and Brian Brown calls for the impeachment of Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring over Gay Marriage

Brian Brown is foolishness. But we all knew that, right?

Following yesterday's announcement from VA Attorney General Mark Herring about Gay Marriage, Brian wrote this mess:

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today called for the impeachment of Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring for "malfeasance" and "neglect of duty" and violating his sworn oath of office to support the constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Instead of defending the Commonwealth's duly enacted marriage amendment, Herring is supporting a federal lawsuit by gay activists to redefine marriage in Virginia's constitution.

"The Attorney General swore an oath that he would 'support...the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia' and faithfully discharge his duties, which include defending duly enacted laws like the state's marriage amendment," said Brian Brown, NOM's president. "Yet now Attorney General Herring is participating in a lawsuit against the very people he is sworn to represent, the citizens of Virginia who preserved marriage in their constitution. This malfeasance and neglect of duty is not only a disgrace, it's an impeachable offense under the constitution."

Section 17 of the Virginia state constitution provides that the Attorney General may be impeached for "malfeasance in office, corruption, neglect of duty or other high crime or misdemeanor."

Perry and Gingrich fail to Qualify for Virginia's Republican Primary

Big setbacks for Jethro and Newt the Hut; poor planning will keep them off the Virgina ballot.

The Republican Party of Virginia announced late Friday and early Saturday that Gingrich and Perry fell short of the 10,000 signatures of registered voters required for a candidate's name to be on the ballot. 

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Rep. Ron Paul met the threshold and will be on the ballot.

Failure to compete in Virginia, which is among the "Super Tuesday" primaries, would deal a huge blow to any contender who had not locked up the nomination by then.

State GOP spokesman Garren Shipley said volunteers spent Friday validating petitions that the four candidates submitted by the Thursday 5 p.m. deadline to the State Board of Elections.

"After verification, RPV has determined that Newt Gingrich did not submit required 10k signatures and has not qualified for the VA primary," the Republican Party of Virginia announced early Saturday via Twitter.

In Virginia: Federal Court claims Health Care Reform Unconstitional

This is a great way to start Monday... Bush appointed judge, Henry E. Hudson declared Obama administration's health care law unconstitutional

U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson is the first federal judge to strike down the law, which has been upheld by two others in Virginia and Michigan. Several other lawsuits have been dismissed and others are pending, including one filed by 20 other states in Florida.
Virginia Republican Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli filed a separate lawsuit in defense of a new state law that prohibits the government from forcing state residents to buy health insurance. However, the key issue was his claim that the federal law's requirement that citizens buy health insurance or pay a penalty is unconstitutional.
Hudson, a Republican who was appointed by President George W. Bush, sounded sympathetic to the state's case when he heard oral arguments in October, and the White House expected to lose this round.
Administration officials told reporters last week that a negative ruling would have virtually no impact on the law's implementation, noting that its two major provisions - the coverage mandate and the creation of new insurance markets - don't take effect until 2014.
