So What did You Think of the New Steel Magnolias?

What did you think of new Steel Magnolias?

I liked it. The cast was solid and story kept me engaged. I know folks are tied to the original, but I wasn't.

I mean, I liked the original but it wasn't a game changer for me. This new version was just fine and it reminded me how we need to see Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashad in more projects.

Please let me know what you thought?

I've seen Steel Magnoliasa hundred times, so it was difficult for me to watch this new version and not think of the original.

However, I thought some of the script changes were effective, and watching Alfre is always a pleasure.

I also felt the pace was a bit rushed, which is probably not fair to say since the format used for TV is very different for film.

I would imagine this will become a favorite for people who are new to the story.

Refreshing! I enjoyed it as much as I did the original.

I tried to watch. I love the actresses but it just seemed to me like a bunch of friends sitting around quoting their favorite movie rather then a new adaptation. The dialog was so word for word it was distracting.

The other distractions were keeping the same names, and accents and didn't it seem like the set design was too generic? They also missed the update boat on diabetes and kidney transplants. That is were I couldn't watch any more.

I love SM and named my dog Truvy, 10 years ago, but I was looking forward to this and felt let down.
