BET, Your Days Are Numbered

Boy, the times have changed. HIP-hop mogul Percy Miller, or Master P, if you're nasty is launching a family-friendly cable network called, Better Black Television.

This network is suppose to pick up where BET failed and possibly reshape the Black image that is somewhat being destroyed. BBTV, set to launch in 2009. The programming will be will be a wide range of scripted, unscripted and news pieces and "responsible hip-hop music and videos."

And this is not a joke, apparently it is very serious. In fact, the advisory board includes Oscar winner Denzel Washington, NBA player Derek Anderson and hip-hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc.

Percy Miller said this: "I believe that there is a market in our community for a new diverse network that provides a new brand of superior programming that caters to all aspects of television, from reality to original programming."

Well you do your thing Percy, believe me, we'll be watching.

This is interesting. I'm eager to see how it does. Mainstream media needs to expand how it depicts many communities. I just hope Percy and crew don't replace one-dimensional characterizations, with another representation that falls just as flat.
