On the surface Luke Rutherford (Christian Cooke, Doctor Who) is every bit the average teenager, but with the arrival of his dead father’s best friend Rupert Galvin (Philip Glenister), Luke’s life is about to change. Galvin has come to inform Luke that his father’s death fifteen years ago wasn’t an accident and he holds a secret destiny as the real-life great-great grandson of Abraham Van Helsing, the vampire hunter in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Hmmm...looks like a powerless Buffy type thing. May be interesting!! I'll check it out and let ya know!! (Although I do wish there was some uhh "color" among the cast. From what I've seen in the preview.) Van Helsings grandson could easily be of mixed heritage at the very least.
I'd also love to see a show that explores other folklores and myths like Indian, Arabian or African in the manner that this show does. Would be cool to learn about other cultures other than just vamps, werewolves and Christian angels and demons.

Okay I've watched the first four of six episodes and it is very much a male Buffy kinda thing. But he doesn't have her power levels. He just seems to have enhanced agility and coordination. They also use guns with special bullets rather than edged weapons.
The monsters don't have names per se. They are all regarded by their "Levels" more than anything else. The levels denoting their heirarchy on the power and difficulty to kill scale. Which sounds like a good idea on paper, but onscreen devoids the enemies of any personality or identity.
This show also doesn't have the same quirky and smart dialogue of Buffy. The monsters look better than Buffy but the character development is off. All the other characters are much better established and rounded than the main character. (They even have an Angel type character.)
In the first episode the main character spends a good while shirtless and this seems to be his biggest personality trait, his unbeknownst to him semi-sexiness. (He kinda has a Zac Effron kinda look going on.)
I'm sure I'll finish the series up. It's good background noise while I work. But they really should focus a bit more on developping the main character and even coming up with a less lazy sounding series name. "Demons" that's the best they could come up with??
In the end, the show is interesting and will probably appeal to a much younger demographic. But us Buffy-ites will find a lot of the plot and characters to be very been there and done that better by someone else. But give it a go, it is good mindless fun!
