My Vague Review of The Wolverine

So, I just saw The Wolverine and it was very good. A huge improvement from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

This film is loosely based from the Wolverine mini-series back in the early 80s. While the story and characters changed, the film was pretty decent. Here is my vague review of the Marvel mutant film.

• This film takes place about 3 years after X-Men 3.
• Logan is hot as a long haired caveman.
• Nice reference to Logan's sensibility to animals.
• Jean is in it... a lot.
• This is true stand alone story.
• I like that they didn't cram a lot useless characters in this film. Everyone had a purpose.
• Viper has all the sass of her comic book character. But the tongue was a bit much.
• Yukio has some of character traits from the comics. It was very good to see that.
• The fight scenes were on point and amazing.
• There was good chemistry between Logan and Mariko.
• The story was fresh, pieces did fit very well.
• The dialogue wasn't too hokey, in fact, it felt like I was reading a comic book.
• The bathing scene was nice.
• Glad that Mariko wasn't weak.
• The Silver Samurai was interesting.
• It was so good see Logan become a hero again.
• Stay to the end... There are a couple of characters waiting for Logan.

My Vague-Spoiler Free Review of Man of Steel

So, I saw Man of Steel last night and it wasn't bad, not great, but really good. This is a different take on Superman and his mythos, but in all it was good film.

I haven't done this in a while, but here is my vague, spoiler free review

• Interesting take of Krypton. It's desert like and filled with weird animals.
• The look of the Kryptonian council reminded me of John Byrne's work in his version of Superman.
• The S mean something besides Super.
• Look for the huge dildos, when you see the film, you will get what I'm talking about.
• The flashbacks were fine, but kinda all over the place.
• It seemed that Clark was always running from himself.
• There were scenes that happened too fast, needed more time to flesh them out.
• Henry's body is sickening.
• Lois wasn't weak, but it felt like I didn't know her character.
• This film was a mash-up of the first 2 original Superman films.
• No kneeling.
• This was gritty, folks died.
• Clark was more Kal-El in this film.
• There were a couple of DC Comics nods in the movie.
• Henry does a great Superman, hands down.
• The battle scenes were a bit much.
• The city of Metropolis looked like Mars after the big showdown.
• Superman is very confident in a Wolverine kind of way.
• I can see how the Justice League film can happen after this movie.
• And I can see why Superman would need a team.
• It was nice to see Superman struggle with his morals.
• Clark had a bunch of random jobs, he was basically in the 47%.
• I can see more films with Henry as Superman.

Again, it was good, not great. Not Avengers, but better than Batman Begins. I do recommend this movie.

My Review: "Twilight: Breaking Dawn"

I was invited to a screening of "Twilight: Breaking Dawn" last night. Mainly because of my blog and my dislike of the series. The 'group' wanted me to do a review of the movie, just to see if I would actually like it.

I said sure and decided to go for it. So here is my review of the teen vampire drama:

• The wedding toast was the best part of the 1st 30 minutes.
• Jacob also took off his shirt in the 1st 4 minutes.
• Bella is not the girl others girls should look up to. She does everything for Edward and not for herself.
• Jacob comes off as bi-polar in every scene.
• The film sent the message that marriage solves everything, even dating demons.
• I found it interesting that in their vampire history, there has never an incident of a vampire/human baby. What about Blade?

• The pact the werewolves have with the Cullens is silly.
• There should be more about 'imprinting' (werewolves finding their mates).
• Bella seemed to happy about dying throughout the series. Great role model, eh?
• The love making scene was kind of funny, they actually broke the bed. Vampire cock must be sublime.
  
• And speaking of vamp sex, it's also abusive. Apparently, vampires are like Klingons when it comes to sex.

•  The soundtrack was cute, but it reminded me of Dawson's Creek.
• The baby idea feels like a mix of the movies 'Grace' and 'It's Alive'.

• Bill Condon did a great job on this film.
• While I'm not a fan, it was a good movie.

So it's good, but I like my vamps deadly without sparkles.

My Review: "Fright Night"

Movie remakes are usually messy or unnecessary. Someone in the industry feels it's an easier risk to take rather than make something new. However, "Fright Night" hit me a little differently. While it was unnecessary remake; it was a good, solid movie.

Actually, this movie didn't have to be remade; it was a stand alone film. In fact, it could been called "The Neighbor" or something.

Anywho, here's my vague review of the flick.

• The casting choices were good and believable. 
• The movie moved quickly and it was easy to catch on.
• I didn't think of 'teens' as High School students, maybe they should been college kids.
• Colin was a great Jerry. Sexy and very deadly.
• Christopher Mintz-Plasse did a great job as Evil Ed, but the original was and always will be the better one (I heart Stephen Geoffreys).

• The look of the vampires was good; a nice take from the original Vamp Amy.

• The new Charlie fit the part. Anton Yelchin did a great job with his skinny self.
• The film went a different direction in several parts, which was nice and refreshing.
• David Tennant stole the show. I totally LOVED him as Peter Vincent. 
• There's no Billy Cole. 

•  One of the original cast members makes an appearance.
• The story was solid. Thank you Marti!

  In all, I liked it and it was fun. Go and see it. 

My Review: X-Men First Class

Before I begin, I will admit I was wrong. I thought X-Men: First Class would suck, but it actually was very good. There were some minor issues, but in all, it was very good... A strong step in the right direction.

So you know the deal, here comes the vague review of X-Men First Class.

• They revisited Magneto's origin, giving more insight to his anger.
• Xavier and Mystique grew up together? Who knew.
• The Hellfire Club actually fit their comic book image.
• Why was Riptide a member of the Hellfire Club, he's a Marauder. And Riptide didn't cause whirlwinds, he threw faux ninja stars.
• Moira Mactaggert and Banshee did NOT have their accents.  Fail!
• Darwin... I'll just leave that alone.
• Emma Frost was the bomb! She was thee character right down to the bottom. However, I think the writers didn't know that diamond can cut brass.
• I didn't like the use of certain mutants from different eras of the X-Men.
• The story was solid. It felt like I was watching a mutant version 'Inglourious Basterds'.
• Michael Fassbender is hot.
• The Hellfire Club's plan was a little far fetched, but kind of something Alan Moore would have made up.
• Storm's in the movie.
• We learn that certain X-Men items were made by the US Government, not Xavier.
• Havok does this weird hula hoop thing to use his powers, it's kinda cute.
• There were very cool elements of the 60s throughout the film.
• No Stan Lee.
• The pacing was great. 2 hours just flew by.

In all it was a very good movie. I'm interested in seeing what the second class will look like.

I had More Sex... In the City that is

I saw Sex in the City 2 and I have to say, I loved it. It is totally for fans, so if you are not a fan you may not like it.

However, if you don't, sorry for you.

But in my fashion, I'll tell you about in bullet form.

• The wedding scene was over the top, but cute.
• Liza Minnelli was great! Her version of Single Ladies is the bomb!
• Chris Noth looks amazing! That's a Daddy I could really get with.
• Although this movie is 2 and half hours long, it didn't feel like it.
• The fashion was uber crazy, but fun.
• Carrie and Big represent many couples I know.
• Their travel to Abu Dhabi was kind of weird, but it reminded me of their trip to L.A. in season 3.
• There were a few references to the past, which were awesome. In fact, Carrie wore her famous Dior newspaper dress from season 3.
• In fact (part 2), the entire movie felt like a love letter to season 3.
• The girls look great.
• John Corbett/Aiden is so hot in this movie. It was good to see him again.
• The chemistry between the girls is still great.
  
• Kristen Davis did a super duper job in this movie.
• The flashback on how the girls met was cute, but I was surprised about Samantha's past.
• Watching this movie made me really miss my group of friends.
• Also after seeing this flick, I realized I need to shop.

So go and see it. It's good, it's gay, it's Sex!

My Iron Man 2 Bullet Review

I just saw Iron Man 2 tonight at the AERO theater in Santa Monica.

And we got a treat (besides seeing the movie at 7:30pm vs midnight)! We were lucky to have Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. in the audience with us!!

I really liked the movie, it kept me excited and pumped! But as usual, I will give my vague review in bullet point!

• Tony Stark is an asshole, but in a good way.
• We see a lot more fun in this film.
• Sam Rockwell's character, Justin Hammer was great, silly but great.
• If you are a fan of the comic, you saw a little bit of the Demon in the Bottle issue.
• Mickey Rourke played a great Whiplash, I just wished he had more time on screen.
• The issue with Tony and his father is addressed.
• There were more fighting scenes in this film.
• Robert Downey Jr. is hot in person, Jon is too.
• The scenes flowed pretty well, very consistent.
• The car race scene was fabulous!
• The use of Tony's 3D programs were much better than the use of 3D in movies.
• The opening scene at the Stark Expo was a bit much.
• The final battle scene was kind of short, but to the point.
• I was happy to see Black Widow, but she really didn't have a point in the movie.
• War Machine was cool.
• I'm not as geeky as some people. I think I was outgeeked tonight.

In all, it's a good film... See it!
