The DNC demands an apology from Ted Cruz

“This morning, one washed-up reality star running for president said he would appoint judges who would overturn marriage equality. Today, Ted Cruz invited a different washed-up reality star to stump in Iowa with him, and this one’s views are even more out-of-touch. Ted Cruz owes not only LGBT Americans, but all Americans an apology for his surrogate’s deplorable and dangerous rallying cry that the earth should be ‘rid’ of marriage equality supporters. The LGBT community knows all too well the violence, the hate crimes, the alienation felt by LGBT teenagers that can result from such heated rhetoric. How can a presidential candidate justify calling for eliminating a group of people based on their political views? It’s downright irresponsible.

“Iowans know that in the almost seven years since marriage equality came to the Hawkeye State, the only result has been that now everyone can marry the person they love. The majority of American voters agree that the Supreme Court’s decision upholding marriage equality nationwide represented monumental progress. Americans deserve a president who will not use hate to divide us and drag America backward. It’s clear the Republican Party doesn’t have any candidate who can live up to that."

Duck Dynasty Season 5 Premiere down from the previous Seasons

Well, this is something to ponder.

Once Duck Dynasty returned to TV, they found that many of their viewers didn't. EW reports that the season 5 premiere had 8.5 million viewers. That's big, but their last premier had 11.8 million viewers. And in their third season, the premiere had 8.6 million viewers.

Interesting to say the least. I wonder if the foolishness of Phil Robertson had something to do with it?

A&E Caves and brings Phil Robertson back to Duck Dynasty

They caved.

Here's their statement:

As a global media content company, A+E Networks' core values are centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect. We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into people’s home and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principals.

That is why we reacted so quickly and strongly to a recent interview with Phil Robertson. While Phil’s comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the “coarse language” he used and the mis-interpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. He also made it clear he would “never incite or encourage hate.” We at A+E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article, and reiterate that they are not views we hold.

But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man's views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family… a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about.
So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.

We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company, and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio.

Why is NOM involved with this?

They have started a petition to save Phil by calling us bullies and amping up his Christianity.

Here's a piece of NOM's mess

We're not going to take the bullying of Phil Robertson and every other person of faith quietly. Will you join with us and immediately sign our petition demanding that Phil be reinstated with an apology from A&E?

It's important that we get thousands of people to sign our petition to let A&E, Hollywood, GLAAD and the HRC know they aren't going to get away with bullying Phil Robertson simply for expressing a true, Christian perspective on what the bible tells us is sinful.

None of us hate homosexuals. We have gays and lesbians as members of our own families and communities, and we love them as God has told us we should love all people. We're all created in the image and likeness of God. But loving our brothers and sisters does not mean we must love sinful behavior.

It's truly outrageous and shocking that the A&E Networks succumbed to this bullying, and legitimized it, by suspending Phil Robertson from his own show. This simply cannot be allowed to stand. It's imperative that we push back — strongly and immediately — with a show of support for Phil Robertson.
