Back 50 years ago it was the churches that really rocked the issue and the music. And spawned a lot of the music which is where my connection comes in.

Look at two artists for examples of that. First was Curtis Mayfield during both his time alone and his time with the Impressions. Songs like "This is My Country" really nailed it. So too did "Choice of Colors"

Then of course even Earth Wind & Fire jumped into the fray with "Mighty Mighty"

So the music did it's part too. Even today, artist like John Legend have picked up the mantle.

Don't forget "Someday We'll All Be Free" a great song in 1973 by Donny Hathaway.

"Keep on walking tall, hold you head up high.
Lay your dreams right up to the sky.
Sing your greatest song.
And you'll keep, going, going on."
