The Teen Titans get a Gay Team Member

The New 52 continues changing the DC comic universe by adding interesting characters. And for the first time ever, the Teen Titans gets a gay team member. His name is Bunker.

Here's the Twitter exchange between comic goddess, Gail Simone and TT artist, Brett Booth (Demonpuppy)

According to Bleeding Cool, his real name is Miguel Jose Barragan and he's from a small village in Mexico called El Chiar.

I think DC is pandering to compete with Marvel.
I don't know if I like the trend. It seems so insincere.

DC and Marvel HAVE to go out of their way to introduce a more diverse array of characters. The problem is until you have a plethora of minority characters folks will always say that it's tokenism or pandering. 7 white men and women on a team and 1 black dude or chick will always equal tokenism.

Flesh out your heroes and the cultures and backgrounds that should be represented. That includes Asian(which included Korean, Phillipino, Vietnamese, etc.), Native American, Aborigine, Latin, Indian, etc. There are a lot of options when creating characters other than white and straight. Just saying.

The X-Men have done the best job of creating original characters from multiple ethnicities and backgrounds IMO. Which is why I like them so much! :)
