Lieberman & Reid will bring a Standalone repeal of DADT

After the foolishness of today, Joe Lieberman is taking the DADT repeal out of NDAA and making it a standalone deal.

The Hill reports:
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Thursday he'll introduce a free-standing bill to repeal the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.
Lieberman said that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) agreed to bring legislation to the floor to do away with the military's prohibition on openly gay and lesbian service members.

The Connecticut independent said that he would introduce the legislation as soon as today with language that mirrors an amendment to the defense authorization bill.

Senators failed to begin debate on that defense bill in a vote this afternoon, with even some Republicans who favor repealing "Don't ask, don't tell" voting to sustain a filibuster.

I hope this plan has better luck

Why would the vote on a stand-alone bill be any different? And once he takes it out of the larger DOD bill, the Senate will likely pass the DOD bill while the DADT bill dies. This is just a lot of maneuvering to make it look like they are trying to get it passed when really they are just abandoning hope.
