R&B Singer Ashanti sends out a Homophobic Tweet

This happened a few days ago, but I wanted y'all to see it.

Apparently, when your single flops and no one's checking for you, this happens

She was called to the carpet for this and I hope she apologizes for this mess.

In fact, she needs to apologize soon, because we (the gays) are all she's got.

Universal Studios kills their problematic Bill and Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure

Folks around here loves them some Universal Studios' "Halloween Horror Nights." But their messy ass show called "Bill and Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure," didn't receive the same kind of love.

This show was packed with homophobic, rapey jokes, racist stereotypes, and the infamous gay fairy Superman. Well, after a lot of complaints and GLAAD's golden touch, the show is dead. A spokesperson from Universal Studios didn't think the show would cause any problems, but seriously... With everything that has happened for gay rights, did they really think their show was a good idea?

Universal Studios should fire the folks involved with this mess. Nothing good has come from this and if they want to save face, an apology (and firing) is in order.

Stupid Frat Joke stirs up Homophobia and Racism at the University of Chicago

U.S. Postal carrier Iran Becton was a victim of a racist and homophobic joke involving the Phi Delta Theta frat at the University of Chicago.

Here's the story:
“About a week after Memorial Day, I had an order to bring 79 of the boxes. I came to the address and explained to the frat member that I would have a lot more supplies. I went back to the truck for the boxes about six or seven times,” Becton said.
“After the last trip, one of the frat guys came out and said it was a practical joke. Another guy said that I should read the name backwards and I’ll get the joke.”
The items — all 79 of them — were addressed to “Reggin Toggaf.” Written backward, the first name is a racial slur. The last name is a slur for gay men.
No one is taking responsibility for this mess at all, and folks are getting pissed off.
Mack Julion, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 11, said he paid a visit to the frat house last Saturday and spoke with the group’s former president.
“Their contention was it was a practical joke, but we don’t think it was funny, the letter carrier doesn’t think it was funny, and it doesn’t reflect well on the university,” Julion told me.
Julion said the fraternity told him the “joke” was being played on them and was not meant to offend Becton.
“But if it was a practical joke from one frat to another and not to the letter carrier, it is still not funny. Is this the way you tease each other?” Julion said he asked. “Is this standard protocol in terms of practical jokes? Is this the way they go back and forth, because it is not acceptable.”
The postal supply boxes were shipped from Victory Packaging, a shipping company in Aurora. The representative that handles the U.S. Postal Service account was appalled when I told him about the bogus shipment.
“We are going to take this real seriously,” he said, promising to investigate and get back to me.
And what is the University of Chicago doing about this? The frat should be suspended until the truth comes out. Oh, and Becton should sue the university.

My Thoughts on the Spike Lee/Homophobic/Twitter thing

So, I've read the tweets, articles and FB posts about the exchange between Spike Lee and blogger, Anti-Intellect over his classic film, School Daze.

Anti-Intellect tweeted that Lee’s film wasn't a balanced view of Morehouse College and it was homophobic, in fact, he noted that Spike was homophobic. Now, I read the tweets and I'm a bit lost here about the entire discussion.

Let me use bullet points to express myself:
  • School Daze was a movie, fiction. Since when did any film (fiction) has to accurately portray the real deal? School Daze wasn't based from a true story, nor a documentary. Spike made this film up, like most writers do.
  • If a writer creates homophobic characters, that make him or her homophobic. It seems to be the message here. Hell, if that's the notion, then I'm homophobic, a murderer, psychotic and a racist.
  • Also if a film has homophobic scenes, is that film homophobic? I don't think so, if it's a part of the story and characters.
  • What was the point of the argument? What was the initial outcome of this discussion. Spike is not going to change School Daze so what is the goal of this discussion?
  • The film is over 20 years old; Spike's earlier work. Who's to say that he didn't evolve from that time? I mean, 20 years ago, every superwoman I drew had thigh-high boots with heels and a choker. I know now that wasn't the right way to portray women in powerful roles. I changed, I'm sure he did too.
  • The notion that Spike should have created a counterbalance to the homophobic is very interesting. I understand there's a good vs evil theme in films. In School Daze, the issues of race and class were clearly the 'stars' of the film. But the anti-gay slurs weren't and it didn't have to have a counterbalance. As my friend, Wilson said on my FB post, real life doesn't always have a counterbalance, why should we assume movies would do the same
Look, I tried to understand the argument and the points that were made. But in the end, I still came up with lint. What was the point of arguing with Spike? What was the point of making this such a big deal? And what was the moral of the story?

This battle had no winner or an endgame. It was two individuals spinning into butter with no toast to spread it on.

If I'm missing the point, someone please help me see it.

Arizona Daily Wildcat publishes a Homophobic Cartoon

I expect this from ASU, but U of A?

University of Arizona's student newspaper, Arizona Daily Wildcat, published this mess the other day.

Since then, folks are pissed and calling for the cartoonist, editor in chief, and copy editor to be fired.

The cartoonist, D.C. Parsons apologized for this mess.
My name is D.C. Parsons, and I would like to formally apologize to anyone who I may have offended in my comic “etc.” on Tuesday. The comic was not intended to offend. The desired end means of my work is solely humorous.
It was based on an experience from my childhood. My father is a devout conservative from a previous generation, and I believe he was simply distraught from the fact that I had learned (from “The Simpsons”) what homosexuality was at such a young age.
I have always used humor as a coping mechanism, much like society does when addressing social taboos. I do not condone these things; I simply don’t ignore them. I do sincerely apologize and sympathize with anyone who may be offended by my comics (I am often similarly offended by “Ralph and Chuck”), but keep in mind it is only a joke, and what’s worse than a joke is a society that selectively ignores its problems.
Sorry, not good enough. I think D.C. should be fired. Anybody who's anybody knows this stuff is offensive. And what's funny to you ain't the same with others.

So hopefully, he will learn from this.

Dumb Ass Rapper Lil' Scrappy said Closeted Gays spread AIDS

Some unknown rapper named Lil Scrappy said one of dumbest things on TMZ this week. After the news of Frank Ocean hit the scene, this fool thought he was adding in on the conversation by saying closeted gays spread AIDS...

It's sad in this day and age, folks are still this dumb.

Roland Martin's Wife, Jacquie Hood Martin, sends out her Angry Tweet

Just when you thought it was safe, the Roland S. Martin drama continues. This time, it's his wife.
On Twitter, Jacquie Hood Martin spoke about her husband's suspension.

This is her tweet
Really, Jacquie? Really? I guess this is no surprise; she makes a living counseling folks away from their homosexuality.

So, when I saw this, I said to Ms. Girl:
But here's the kicker, after she posted that tweet, her entire Twitter account was deleted.
I wonder why she got rid of her account? I guess she wasn't ready for the backlash.

So Jacquie, take heed to what my grandmama use to say: Don't start nothin' and there won't be nothin'.

Eminem leaves the Homophobic Lyrics behind

Eminem has been known to say some ugly stuff in his raps. Mostly his words about us (gays) has been the most eye popping.

But over the years, Em's has lighten up with the language. In fact, he's going to leave the homophobic lyrics at home.

Organisers of the Wireless Festival in Hyde Park have persuaded the rapper to drop his gratuitously anti-gay songs to avoid any demonstrations. Following Eminem's pledge, they have agreed a deal with gay rights groups not to picket the event next summer.

The last time Eminem toured the country in 2001, gay rights group OutRage! protested outside his shows, saying his lyrics were homophobic.

Event organisers were said to be worried that another such protest would cause major disruption to Wireless, which attracts tens of thousands of people.A festival insider said: “This is a huge signing for Wireless and it will be the hottest ticket this summer.

“The organisers were afraid campaigners could potentially ruin the event. So there was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and Eminem only agreed to sign up when assurances had been made that there would not be any protests.

Interesting Quote: Rick Ross

"I heard I offended the homosexual community recently with terms I've been using the last few weeks — terms, like 'fags,' 'punks,' 'homos,' gays,' we all know. And what I want to say is I apologize. I sincerely apologize to the gay community, to the people I offended with the words like 'fags,' 'gays,' 'punks.' You know, words like that. I apologize. And just to let the gay community know how sincere I am with my apologies, I'm offering and willing to do a record with a openly gay artist such as Curly, Curtis Jackson, 50 Cent. We all know he's gay. I'm willing to do a song … even Elton John … both two great gay artists … so I apologize to the gay community. That's from the boss … Now all the gays, we good. Peace."

Fake gangster, Rick Ross's apology to us...whatever

In Fear of a Gay Friendly Country

My fellow blogger, Eric brought up how homophobic the GOP and others have been for the past several months (more than that). And I've been thinking the same thing.

This is what I've noticed:

  • The Utah Legislature snuffed out 3 more gay-rights bills.
  • In Gainesville, Christian groups placed an amendment on the ballot that will make it legal to fire and deny housing to LGBT folks.
  • Sen. Scott Renfroe equate us to murderers and think we should but to death.
  • Chris Buttars thinks we are just like radical Muslims.
  • The National Organization for Marriage launched a web site and a group called the DOMA Defense Fund last month to raise money to keep the Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits the federal government from acknowledging same-sex marriages and allows states to ignore same-sex marriages enacted in other states.
  • Oklahoma House passed a bill declaring the state sovereign from any rule of the federal government not mentioned in the Constitution. 8 other states are planning to do the same.
  • Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality, issued a statement pushing RNC chair, Michael Steele, to deny the Log Cabin Republicans a greater voice.
  • In West Virginia, a website called, wv4marriage.com believes we are, THE GAY SNIPERS ready to attack straight families.
  • Hawaii is now a battleground in the fight for same-sex civil unions.
  • A Idaho state Senate committee killed a proposal to outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • Georgia state Rep. Charlice Byrd wants to fire every university professor who teaches such "disgusting" classes as queer theory.
And there's more, much more. It's so hard to believe that ignorance is that BIG and that serious right now. I know I sound naive, but the arrogance and hubris of these folks is very scary. What are these people afraid of? And how can they invoke God or the concept of love in anything they say?

I feel like we need to get prepared. Their attacks are coming harder and faster. As a people, we need to organize and stay aware. I think it will get worse as the year progess.

Interesting Quote: Jamaican South West St Ann MP Ernest Smith

"I am very concerned at the extent to which homosexual activities seem to have overtaken this country…

I am very concerned that homosexuals in Jamaica have become so brazen, they've formed themselves into organisations and are abusive, violent and something that the Ministry of National Security must look into is why is it that so many homosexuals are licensed firearm holders…

There was a report recently which has never been challenged that our security forces, particularly the Jamaican Constabulary Force, have been overrun by homosexuals … there was a front page report in one of our daily newspapers, which has never been challenged."

ESPN is afraid of a Fist Kiss

I hate to say this, but I'm not surprised to hear about the homophobic ad on ESPN. It's boys, sports, and manhood all in a network.

This ad was stupid at best and I'm a little shocked at Shaq for doing it. However, the power of the gays should never be underestimated. HRC called in to ESPN's diversity department and addressed the issue.

A day or so later, we get this:

We have dozens of executions of the "NBA on ESPN RV Tour" online campaign and none are intended to be offensive to anyone or any community of people. Our intent is to send a positive message about the camaraderie of sports and to do so as creatively as we can. However, we understand your perspective on this ad and would like to apologize to the members of the gay community. In addition, we have decided to remove the ad from the campaign’s online executions.

ESPN has a long-standing tradition of supporting diversity in the workplace and beyond. We are fully committed to continuing a dialogue that welcomes and recognizes diverse perspectives.

We appreciate your bringing your concerns to our attention.

- Rob Tobias- Vice President, Media Relations, ESPN

Shame on you, ESPN. Don't you know, we're running things these days.

What in the Hell did we ever do to you, NIKE?

Nike's ads department SUCKS! Y'all remember last year, they did this "That Ain't Right" ad. They were quickly attacked for their foolishness. However, they didn't learn their lesson.

Their new ad says: "The only thing worse than going to the ballet is going to the ballet to see your son."

Please, "The only thing worse than going to the ballet is seeing your son strung out some enhancement drugs trying to hit the 4567th home run, while suffering from small nuts due to more self-destructive drugs, sweetie." That's my ad.

But turns out, it wasn't a Nike ad, it was a part of student ad design competition. The ad was selected by a "leading professional" as one of the best ads submitted for the quarter, and won a spot in the CMYK magazine.

Still, it's interesting the "leading professional" allowed this to happen, considering the mess from their last anti-gay-like ad. That's not a professional's style. And how did they get to use the Nike logo? Something ain't right, alright.

Advocate.com has more on the story.
