Gates wants to create a Plan before DADT is repealed UPDATED

Today, Robert Gates told congress not to repeal DADT until a clear plan is made.

Defense secretary Robert Gates is directing Congress not to change the "don't ask, don't tell" policy until a clear repeal plan is devised.

In a letter obtained by the Associated Press, Gates told members of a House committee that forcing policy changes on the military "would send a very damaging message to our men and women in uniform that in essence their views, concerns, and perspectives do not matter."

Gates has expressed his support for repealing the ban as long as a plan is created to invite and employ openly gay and lesbian service members.

I agree that a clear plan must be implemented to insure the safety and progress of our gay and lesbian soldiers. I hope folks will understand that, because at the end of the day, it's really about our soldiers and their safety.

UPDATE: The White House supports Gates' statement. Wants to repeal, but also wants to complete the study.

RuPaul's Drag Race is Racist?

Folks are claiming RuPaul's being racist because both winners were Black.

On Monday, RuPaul revealed the winner of the second season of his RuPaul's Drag Race reality TV show, and it turned out to be Tyra Sanchez.

The choice was controversial. A sizable number of viewers were rooting for the quick-witted Pandora Boxx , who had been eliminated earlier in the season, but who won the Miss Congeniality Award in the reunion show ("by a landslide," RuPaul said).

There are plenty of good reasons to second-guess the actual pick, but racism on the part of RuPaul isn't one of them.

But weirdly, that is precisely what a disturbing number of people are saying, on the Drag Race Facebook page and even here in the comments at AfterElton.com.

What's the evidence? Despite selecting multi-racial casts this year and last, RuPaul's eventual winners, Sanchez and last year's Bebe Zahara Benet, were both black.

Accusing someone of racism is one of the most serious accusations you can make about a person — or so conservatives have been reminding us for the last thirty years.

I'm not sure what motivates the ridiculous charge against RuPaul, except to say I think the accusation itself is a form of racism and, intended or not, it makes a mockery of the whole concept of racism.

I'm sorry, but Pandora Boxx? No! Those dresses and her look was not cutting it. She should have been gone a while ago. I thought Jessica Wild would have lasted longer than Pandora.

I think this is silly, Tyra won, she worked her ass off. Raven is great, but Tyra sold it. Let's not take it there, please.

My Review of Nightmare on Elm Street

I'm back from seeing the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street and I have to say... The original is better, however this version wasn't bad.

I know, I know, I should be used to this by now, but I had to give this a try. But I'll say it again, the original is better.

Here's why (bullet point time)
  • Freddy's face almost seems nicer in the updated version. In the original, he looked scarier.
  • The opening credits sucked, a waste of time for 4 minutes.
  • Kellan Lutz's scene could have been left out.
  • All the names were changed, but Nancy's.
  • I didn't care for the updated version of Nancy. Her role didn't come to life until the last 35 minutes of the movie. Plus, they made her kind of goth-ish and nonchalant, not the feisty 'Nancy' Heather Langenkamp gave us.
  • Freddy was not a child murderer, he was a molester in this version. I felt like this change took the 'horror' factor away from Freddy.
  • Jackie Earle Haley did a great job as Freddy. Love Jackie.
  • The famous 'Freddy coming through the wall' scene SUX in the new version.
  • The dreams were not fun or scary, but creative.
  • There were no 'long arms' sceneno pulling Glenn down into the bed and blood flood the ceiling... No, just a bunch of 'jump' scenes.
  • The characters were boring, noone stood out. But Jackie/Freddy.
  • We learned more about the parents of the Elm Street kids.
  • Nancy didn't have a Cop dad, in fact, she had no dad.
  • They didn't seem like High School students, more like college kids.
  • I enjoyed Rooney Mara, I just wished we got more 'Nancy' out of her.
  • I was bored from this version.
  • Honestly, there was no reason to remake this. It didn't increase the value of the story or Freddy's or Nancy's characters.
  • The 'mother ending' scene was slightly better in the updated version.
In all, this wasn't a bad movie. Far better than the Friday the 13th remake. This was a decent take, but nowhere close to the original.

Hawaii State House approves the Civil Unions Bill

Hawaii makes it happen for the gay community. The House has passed the Civil Unions bill.
A bill approving same-sex civil unions is headed to Hawaii's governor after the state House of Representatives gave it final legislative approval Thursday.

The House voted 31-20 in favor of the measure, which passed the Senate in January.

Republican Gov. Linda Lingle has not said whether she will make civil unions law or veto the bill.

The measure grants gay and lesbian couples the same rights and benefits that the state provides to married couples.

If it becomes law, Hawaii will join California, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington in granting essentially all the rights of marriage to same-sex couples without authorizing marriage itself. Five other states permit same-sex marriage: Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut.

The issue was revived on the last day of this year's legislative session when House Majority Leader Blake Oshiro made a motion to reconsider it.

Good luck, Hawaii!!!

Hey God, there's a Million Folks praying for Obama's death... How do you feel about that?

This is a hot ass mess.

A Facebook page, praying for Obama's death, has over a million followers. How Christian like!

A Facebook group accused of "praying" for the death of President Barack Obama has raised controversy online, with many calling for Facebook to remove the group as "offensive speech."

The group, which lists its location as "Marysville, OH, 43040," currently has over 1 million members--Facebook users who say they "like" the group. It includes an album of anti-Obama imagery uploaded by the group's members--what Facebook labels "fan photos--that show the president against a communist flag, juxtaposed with insulting and derisive captions, or even a cartoon "associating Obama to Hitler."

There's another page asking Facebook to remove the 'prayer', they have over 650, 000 followers. If you ask me, the whole thing is a mess. I expect this behavior in Myspace, not Facebook.

Childhood Signs of my Gayness

As a kid, I didn't know I was exhibiting so much gay behavior. But when I really think about it, I was really showing my true self.

Here are some examples:
  • Wore my cousin's Wonder Woman underoos.
  • Learned how to do high kicks like a Darcel Wynne in Solid Gold.
  • Wore a towel on my head as a long Cher hair.
  • Played with my cousin's Barbie dolls.
  • Wanting to be Wonder Woman and not Superman.
  • Learned how to Double Dutch instead of playing baseball.
  • Fantasized about being carried away by the Incredible Hulk.
  • Dreamed of making out with Ricky Schroder.
  • Stood outside, holding a bedsheet like a huge cape while the wind blew.
  • Also spinning around like Wonder Woman with the same bedsheet.
  • Wanted to be Private Benjamin.
Yeah, I should have saw the signs earlier.

Who asked for This?: Clash of the Titans 2

WTFrak!!!!

Clash of the Titans 2?
Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are moving ahead with a sequel to Clash of the Titans, which the studio would like as early as spring, 2012. But they will make the journey without Louis Leterrier, who will not return for an encore as director. Sam Worthington will return, as well as most every other character that survived. Greg Berlanti will write the story and the studio is already canvassing the agencies for a writer and director who can whip the movie into shape to shoot before Worthington makes Avatar 2.
Yes, it made a lot of money, but once folks saw it, it was an omega fail. More peeps regret seeing it and now, they want to do a Part 2?

Seriously, I'm questioning if I want to go into this field where foolishness is on tap. I mean, what are they going to do in a Part 2, fight in the Trojan War? Travel to the Planet of the Apes? Save Jesus?

Hollyhood get it together!

Interesting Quote: Laura Bush

"Before the election season had unfolded, I had talked to George about not making gay marriage a significant issue. We have, I reminded him, a number of close friends who are gay or whose children are gay. But at that moment I could never have imagined what path this issue would take and where it would lead.”

Don't feel Bad Gays, White Guys were left out of Obama's message too

Folks are full of jokes these days... Washington Examiner wrote an article, claiming Obama left out white men in his 'rally the voters' video ad.

In a video message emailed to more than 13 million supporters, Obama said Democrats need a 2008 repeat.

"It will be up to each of you to make sure that the young people, African-Americans, Latinos and women, who powered our victory in 2008, stand together once again," Obama said. "It will be up to each of you to keep our nation moving forward."

Conservatives said the move was racially divisive -- asking rhetorically what would happen if a president called for unity among white voters to win an election. But the strategy reflects political reality. Polls show Obama's support among white males has dropped off -- in large part over economic issues and his health-care plan.

"I think a lot of white men, a few Republicans but mostly independents, are the people leaving Obama in droves," said Aubrey Jewett, a political scientist at the University of Central Florida. "Realistically the Democrats don't think they have a chance of getting them back between now and November."

Now, I understand why John Aravosis why upset... He was left out twice!

Want to know what happens at an Ex-Gay Camp?

I read this and realized how sad the world is.

Anywho, I came across this article and wanted to share an activity they do in these Erase Gayness Camps.
"For this next exercise," says one of the staff, "Try to keep an open mind."

Three staff members take a seat in the middle of the room. They demonstrate three different "healing touch" techniques.

First: Side-by-side, where two men sit shoulder-to-shoulder, facing the same direction, their legs outstretched in front of them. The man giving the Healing Touch puts one arm around the receiver.

Second: The Cohen Hold, named after "certified sexual re-orientation coach" and Healing Touch pioneer Richard Cohen. For this position, the receiver sits between the legs of the giver, their chests perpendicular, the receiver's head resting on the giver's shoulder. The giver encircles his arms around the receiver.

Third: The Motorcycle. The receiver again sits between the legs of the giver; this time, the receiver leans his back up against the chest of the giver. Again, the giver wraps his arms around the receiver.

The Guide leans back and opens up his legs. I scoot between his thighs, turn away from his face, and lean back while he wraps his arms around me. I flash back to a night months before, when a then-girlfriend held me the same way. She lit candles. We drank wine and later had sex.

At the Guide's direction, the other men from the group place their hands on my arms, legs, and chest. This is so they can impart their healing masculine energy to me.

[...]

The Guide whispers in my ear how I used to be the Golden Child, how everything was wonderful before someone hurt me, how I put up walls to protect myself, and now it was time for those walls to come down.

Like so many times that night, I'm trying not to crack up.

That's sounds like pre-gaming before an orgy.

DC Entertainment says NO MORE female superhero films for now

No so good news for Wonder Woman fans. Because of the slow sales of the Wonder Woman cartoon movie DVD, there are no plans for anymore Super Women for now.
Are there plans to do any more sequels for the recently released DC animated films?

"We had originally planned to do sequels for Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, but Wonder Woman’s sales started out extremely slow and then over time were eventually able to catch up to probably Justice League Frontier. The Exec’s decided because it wasn’t able to sell quickly right away, where as Justice League was, that there wouldn’t be any more female super hero films right now. We were developing and hoping to get started on a batgirl film based on Year One, but because of Wonder Woman’s slow sales start, that won’t be happening now.

"With Green Lantern, it didn’t perform nearly as well as what they had hoped it would. In the long run it eventually made its money back, but the sales weren’t there right away during its release. Hopefully with the release of the Live Action film next year, that will open up the doors for more Green Lantern relate material."
I hope this doesn't hurt Diana's chances for a live action movie. I'll keep hope alive.

The Ring 3D... Really?

Oh Lord, hand me a two piece and biscuit. Greed is shi**ing on horror again.

They are trying to make The Ring 3D... Fu**ing 3D!
Combining two of Hollywood's consuming passions -- sequels and 3D -- Paramount is moving ahead with a new installment of the horror thriller franchise "The Ring."

The third entry based on the Japanese horror movies is being called "Ring 3D." David Loucka, who wrote the now-shooting thriller "Dream House" for Morgan Creek, has been tapped to pen the script.

Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are in negotiations to return as producers, and Vertigo and Benderspink are executive producing.

The new film is being fashioned as more teen-centric than the first, and though the logline is being kept under wraps, the aim is to reinvent the franchise. One potential scenario involves teens finding a VHS player that still works.

Hera, help me! Or better yet, Samara, come out the well and end this.

Nancy Pelosi says a Vote on DADT will be taken this Year

Did I hear this right? I hope so, because that will be great!

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is planning to hold a vote this year in her chamber of Congress for “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal, according to her office.

“It is the Speaker’s intention that a vote will be taken this year on ['Don't Ask, Don't Tell'] in the House,” Drew Hammill, a Pelosi spokesperson, told DC Agenda in a statement Monday.

The announcement is promising news for repeal advocates because Pelosi has yet to put legislation to the floor that hasn’t had sufficient support for passage.

Michael Cole, a Human Rights Campaign spokesperson, praised Pelosi for planning the vote.

“As we’ve been saying for a long time now, the time to repeal the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ law is this year, and it’s a positive sign to hear congressional leaders affirm that,” Cole said.

Still, Cole said further work is necessary to make repeal happen.

“We need pressure on the Congress, we need pressure on the White House, we need pressure across the board, and as we get into this critical period, signs like that are promising,” he said.

Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, said he learned the House was planning this vote last week in a meeting with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

“I’m delighted that she’s reaffirmed to hold the vote this year,” he said.

Study says Gay Youth are highly likely to be tormented

A Harvard study reveals news we are way too familiar with:

Researchers at Harvard School of Public Health and Children’s Hospital found that gays, bisexuals and heterosexuals who have had a same-sex partner are 1 to two times as likely to experience violence, especially in childhood, and have double the risk of experiencing PTSD as a result.

“It’s really appalling,” said lead author Andrea Roberts, a postdoctoral fellow in epidemiology at Harvard.

The researchers cite several factors behind the increased rates of victimization and PTSD, including:

Hate crimes (almost one-third of sexual minority adults in the U.S. report being victims of such a crime), Gender non-conforming behavior in childhood, which increases risk of being bullied, and Social isolation and discrimination.

Is the Obama Administration planning on dealing with Arizona?

The word is out the Obama Administration may be addressing Arizona on their crazy ass immigration law.

ABC News Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper had this to say:
So what did President Obama mean when -- responding on Friday to Arizona's new immigration law -- he said that he'd "instructed members of my administration to closely monitor the situation and examine the civil rights and other implications of this legislation"?

An Obama administration official says it means that officials from the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security are looking to see if there are any actions they should take in response to the law -- and "that could mean suing to block the law, but we're a long way from knowing if that's a viable route yet."
Interesting news, however I can see teabaggers claiming that Obama's trying to endanger their state and children.

This could be an interesting week.

Transgender Student attacked on California State University, Long Beach campus

This is sad news to share.

A transgendered student was attacked in a bathroom at California State University, Long Beach campus last week.

Authorities say that the 27-year-old victim was approached in a campus bathroom April 15.

According to police, the suspect pulled the victim's T-shirt over his head, pushed him into a stall, and then slashed his chest with a sharp object. The attacker then fled the area.

The victim was treated at a hospital and released. Police believe the attack was an isolated incident.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and dark colored hair. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with dark khaki shorts.

Here's a pic

Hopefully, the attacker is found soon.

WTFrak Moments in Last Week's Gay Rights Stuff

Last week we saw some interesting steps in the Gay Rights movement. However, there are some things that gave me a WTF moment from this events.

Much to ado about a Face- Kerry Eleveld and several others talked about the "DARK ANGER" in Obama's face when he was heckled here in L.A. It's interesting that so many assumptions are drawn from this, or the belief his frown is a sign a change.

Dan Choi believing Robert Gibbs forced the media away from GetEQUAL protest in D.C.- He tweeted this odd statement: "Press Sec'y Gibbs was in park; park closed. Rookie cop? We got names. Stay tuned. Gibbs muzzle press."
Uh, okay. But Gibbs doesn't have that type of power. In fact, Gibbs was going to lunch, so that conspiracy theory should die.

Robin McGehee's crazy ass rant at Jared Polis over ENDA. Remember, he's on our side, Robin!

Remixing Obama's SOTU address- Obama said this about DADT in his State of the Union address:
"This year, I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are. It's the right thing to do."
But somewhere that statement turned into, Obama was repealing DADT this year. Now, when I heard that statement, I didn't get "this year", I heard "will work to repeal it this year". Now all of a sudden, folks are claiming that Obama lied and betrayed us. Really? Maybe folks' perceptions betrayed them.

GetEQUAL- I saw these people at the Sen. Boxer's rally, and all I can say is "whoa". I'm concerned that this group will tarnished some things. So far, they just make folks mad instead of making changes.

How to Spot an Illegal Citizen in Arizona? Look at their Shoes

Arizona has thought of creative ways to spot an illegal immigrant running around in the state.

With the help of Rep. Brian Bilbray, this will be the key way of catching them:

They will look at the kind of dress you wear, there's different type of attire, there's different type of ...right down to the shoes, right down to the clothes. But mostly by behavior it's mostly behavior, just as the law enforcement people here in Washington, DC does it based on certain criminal activity there is behavior things that professionals are trained in across the board and this group shouldn't be exempt from those observations as much as anybody else.
Okay, so if you see strangely dressed folks in Tempe, call the cops immediately!

Another Interesting Quote: Chris Evans

"It is a big responsibility. I'm a little scared, to be honest. I'd be lying if I said anything else, and I have no problem being honest about that. It's intimidating. It's a big responsibility and you want to do your best work. I'm not quite sure what else to say. It was a challenging process for me, trying to decide whether or not to do it. I came down on the side of going for it because I really think Marvel is doing some great things these days, the script is great and it's going to be a fun character to play. He's a wonderful character, just as a man, aside from the comic hero background. If it was just a story about the man, Steve Rogers, I'd be really interested. He's an incredibly noble, honest, selfless man, and those are qualities that I think people can aspire to and look up to."

Do you want to see DAZZLER the Movie?

Marvel is thinking about unleashing the B/C list characters in films.
Marvel Studios is currently taking meetings with writers and directors to work on small scale movies based on some of their third tier characters. The movies would cost in the range of 20 to 40 million dollars (very small when we're talking studio films) and would allow them to take risks with less obvious characters and with interesting talent.

Filmmakers are being offered their pick of characters whose names are only familiar to comic fans. Properties like Dr. Strange, Ka-Zar, Luke Cage, Dazzler and Power Pack are among the many that are being tossed around right now. And the attitude seems to be that Marvel is open to bringing any of their characters to the screen at the right price point.

In a lot of ways this is revolutionary. While superhero movies such as Kick-Ass have been made at a lower price point, the big studio system seems unable to keep costs down (Marvel has been just as guilty of this, by the way. Their films were supposed to be cheaper originally).
Well, this could interesting, but really? Some of these characters don't need a movie.
Impossible Man? Mimic? Nova? Bova?
No, not ready for those folks.
