In Connecticut: Federal Trial Court takes down DOMA's Marriage Definition
More DOMA fallout news!
Buzzfeed reports:
U.S. District Court Judge Vanessa L. Bryant today held in a federal case in Connecticut that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act — the federal definition of marriage — is unconstitutional.
Bryant, in a case brought by Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders, follows several other federal judges over the past two years to have reached the same conclusion. Federal judges in Massachusetts, California and New York also have found DOMA's provision defining "marriage" and "spouse" as only being unions of one man and one woman in all federal laws unconstitutional.
Bryant found that laws that classify people based on sexual orientation should be subject to heightened scrutiny by courts — as the Department of Justice and plaintiffs argued in the case — but found the provision of the 1996 law unconstitutional "even under the most deferential level of judicial scrutiny."The walls are coming down!
Interesting Quote: Frank Ocean
"I knew that I was writing in a way that people would ask questions. I knew that my star was rising, and I knew that if I waited I would always have somebody that I respected be able to encourage me to wait longer, to not say it till who knows when. People are just afraid of things too much … Sure, evil exists, extremism exists,” he continued. “Somebody could commit a hate crime and hurt me. But they could do the same just because I'm black. They could do the same just because I'm American."source
Different views of the Chick-Fil-A Mess
Executive Director of the Log Cabin Republicans, R. Clarke Cooper provided an interesting view to the Chick-Fil-A drama.
He said:
"Turning a chicken sandwich into Public Gay Enemy Number One makes LGBT people look superficial, vindictive and juvenile -- everything that we as a community have worked hard to overcome. Remember, employers don't want drama queens on the payroll, military service is serious business, and marriage is not a right society grants to spoiled children. While in a perfect world our equality should not depend on our good behavior, in a world where our rights too often hinge on political reality, the way our movement conducts itself matters.
"The 'movable middle' moves both ways, and they don't like seeing people attacked relentlessly for their religion. Whatever the nuances, these voters see a man standing up for his beliefs against a politically powerful mob dead-set on driving him out of business. It's un-American, and when fellow conservatives are finally standing up and speaking out for marriage equality as consistent with the sober values of responsibility and commitment, splashing a popular American company with metaphorical chicken blood in protest is nothing less than friendly fire."
Hmmm. Interesting, but he's not alone. My friend Sean also had a strong response:
Love to hear your views on this.I see little evidence that the damage done to the Chick-fil-A brand is as severe or permanent as some would like. Every time a new gay marriage referendum comes up and is voted down, it ends up demonstrating how rampant this kind of gay-positive groupthink is. Most Americans probably don't have very strong opinions about the whole controversy. There is also a tendency in gay politcs/media/activism to overrate the degree to which LGBT civil rights battles are fought within the realm of pop culture, and this is that "superficial, vindictive and juvenile" faction that Cooper is referring to. Sure, visibility has always been an important factor in the movement, but it's not the only one. The theory has always been that if you use consumer culture and pop cultural allies to increase the visibility of gay people, you will change the broader public's view of them and that will cause policy changes. (Has anyone asked Lady Gaga what she thinks about this yet?) But if you look at the history of most civil rights movements, you'll see that this is really a two-way street. In fact, it's often the case that public policy changes come first, which lead to social changes later. Fighting for rights in court rooms and legislative chambers may not be as glamorous or exciting as talking about a fast food chain everybody's heard of, but it's much more effective at improving people's lives in the long run.
Chris Brown's Response to his Diss of Frank Ocean
This fool just can't stop! After fans weighed in on his "no homo" response to Frank Ocean, Chris went on Twitter to um, clarify his stance?
He said:

Here is the Original Concept of She-Ra
Here is the image of the original idea of She-Ra.
James Eatock from his fabulous He-Man and She-Ra blog writes:
Before the character of She-Ra had been finalized work was already underway on the series. However when it came to storyboarding the first She-Ra episode,"Into Etheria" artist Don Manuel had no character designs to refer to and subsequently had to design many of the characters himself. Even though he only designed She-Ra for this one particular storyboard image his take on the Princess of Power was truly unique, creating a scantily clad brunette!Interesting, she looks like a warrior queen from a Heavy Metal comic strip.

Interesting Quote: Brian Brown
Today, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) stated that the reported decision of the Democratic National Committee platform committee to include a redefinition of marriage in their national platform will make marriage a defining issue in the 2012 elections, especially in the presidential election. NOM pledged to rally supporters of marriage to make sure they know that reelecting President Obama could result in the end of marriage in America.
"The Democratic party has been captured by extremists from both coasts like Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi who are determined to redefine marriage in our nation," said Brian Brown, NOM's president. "It's ironic that they hope to kill off the institution of marriage at their convention in Charlotte, because North Carolina like 31 other states, just voted overwhelmingly in favor of preserving marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The marriage amendment passed with 61% of the vote in North Carolina and enjoyed a plurality of support among Democrats and an overwhelming support of African Americans. We will rally supporters of traditional marriage to make sure they realize that the outcome of the presidential election may determine the future of marriage in our country."I knew he would have something to say.

Marriage Equality will be on the DNC Platform
Well, I guess it's final... The marriage plank will be added to the DNC platform
The Washington Blade reports
The Democratic Party platform drafting committee approved on Sunday language endorsing same-sex marriage in addition to other pro-LGBT positions as part of the Democratic Party platform, according to two sources familiar with the drafting process.
Retiring gay Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), who sits on the committee, told the Washington Blade on Monday that the 15-member panel unanimously backed the inclusion of a marriage equality plank after a national hearing over the weekend in Minneapolis, in which several witnesses testified in favor of such language.
“I was part of a unanimous decision to include it,” Frank said. “There was a unanimous decision in the drafting committee to include it in the platform, which I supported, but everybody was for it.”
I wish ENDA was placed on the platform. It is just as important as marriage.

Question of the Day
In a convo with some friends, a couple of them said they can't do monogamy. I raised an eyebrow, trying not to judge.
They said there's too much going on to be all hugged up with one guy. One of my friends just came out and said it's too hard. I asked for them to elaborate, but they really couldn't pinpoint their reasons. But I wonder how others feel.
Do y'all think monogamy is too hard?

Tim Tebow's Teammates Tease him for Running Shirtless in the Rain
In his training camp debut as a Jet, Tim decides to show off his newly built body. However, his teammates rags on him for being a "superstar".
"When we walked into the quarterbacks meeting room, we told Tim, 'We're just glad you kept your shirt on for the meeting,''' McElroy said after Sunday's practice. "Sure enough, there it came off and he sat shirtless for about 30 minutes.Oh Tim, they picked on Jesus too.
"Especially when we're in that room, we give each other a hard time.''
Other teammates got in on the action.
"The slow-motion run?'' asked linebacker Bart Scott about Tebow's run. "Like I told him, 'I've never seen anybody decide to take their shirt off in the rain. Usually, I put stuff on.
"Maybe it was holy water."
Wide receiver Chaz Schilens didn't see the television or web shots of Tebow showing off his newly-chiseled physique after adding nine pounds to his 6-3, 250 frame.
"Oh, man, he mentioned something about it,'' Schilens says. "I heard it was all over the news.
"It was a little funny. But I'll bet he won't do it again.''

I just learned what a Play Party is
This weekend, I learned what about a play party. What I thought it was... well, let's just say I was way off. I thought it was like a meet and greet.
During the convo, I asked, "What do you wear for one of these events?" I got some interesting looks. It was then, I learned that a play party was something to do with sex.
Later on, I told one of my friends about the "Oh My Moment". He couldn't believe I didn't know about play parties. I told him, I thought it was like a picnic or luncheon. Hell, I almost asked about the type of wine to bring.
Apparently, gay men should know these things about the sexual world. Me, I just know the basics x 2. I'm not that vanilla, but I didn't realized their was so much stuff. Some of my friends tell me stories that are really something else. Nothing's wrong with a little kink, but there's so much going on out there.
Parties, role play, Lycra, pissing parties, Dom and Sub... y'all, sex has become the Olympics. And I feel too old to be competing for the Gold.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch might have a Sequel
If you liked Hedwig and the Angry Inch, get ready for a possible sequel.
Vulture reports:
Journalist Kevin Sessums writes that he recently had lunch with John Cameron Mitchell, who just finished the first draft of a sequel to his 2001 musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, originally based on Mitchell's own stage play. (Stephen Trask will return as composer.)This could be cute.
What's it about? "Let’s just say it’s something that could only happen to Hedwig — a phantasmagoria with dollops of brutal reality interwoven into its multi-media narrative," says Sessums.

Chris Brown disses Frank Ocean
Chris Brown continues to be a nuisance and mess. Just recently, when he was in Cannes, a reporter asked the fallen star about Frank Ocean and his coming out.
What did Chris Brown say? He responded with this: “Man, no homo!”.
If you didn't know, the phrase “no homo” basically mean to reject or denounce anything that LGBT.
According to PRLOG, there's been drama between the two before:
Brown has had run-ins with Ocean before, in 2011 the two exchange hate tweets that eventually erupted into Brown sending family members to attack Frank Ocean. Brown also has a long history of homophobia and is known for making homophobic statements in the past.I guess Chris is mad because Frank is outselling him and getting more attention.

Kirk Cameron will not meet with Bullied LGBT Teens
Kirk's people responded to the request to meet with the bullied teens.
Here's a part of the letter from Kirk's manager:
He usually flies in the day of the event and after the event is actually traveling to the next one. Because of this intense schedule, there is not time to set up extra meetings like you are suggesting. That being said I would normally just write a simple reply, "Thanks for your invitation, however Kirk's schedule will not permit," but because you have taken some time to share some of your feelings, Kirk asked me to personally thank you on his behalf for your kind invitation and is very sorry he can not attend because of the schedule that weekend. I also want to thank you for taking the time to write and share your heart in your letter.
For this reason, I want to share this thought with you, from someone who sees and works with Kirk almost everyday of the year - I promise you his goal is not one of trying to hurt people in any way, in fact it is just the opposite. He has a concern for their well being - not only now, but eternally. He goes out to share a positive message through events like this weekend and I assure you he will only be presenting a positive/ inspiring message.
I would like to suggest if you really are interested in Kirk's thoughts on the matter, you can listen online to the interviews and comments Kirk has shared where he was given ample time to communicate his heart and thoughts. I hope you can attend the event and see for yourself.
We wish you the best, Mark Craig

Battle Royale the TV Series?
The cult classic is being looked at as a TV series.
LA Times reports
In the last few weeks, the CW has had talks with the project's Hollywood representatives about the possibility of turning the property into an English-language show, said a person with knowledge of the situation who was not authorized to speak about it publicly. The talks were preliminary, but if a deal could be reached, the network would acquire rights to Koushun Takami’s underlying novel, then unpack and expand on it for an hourlong dramatic series.I'll give CW credit, they can do some Teen TV; but in order to keep it real it has to be done on cable. I mean, have you seen Battle Royale? I'm not sure the CW can do it justice.
Asked about the CW talks, Joyce Jun, a Hollywood attorney representing U.S. rights to the title, would say only that "there is no deal in place." A CW spokesman confirmed only there had been some discussion but declined to comment further.
Maybe Showtime or FX should go after this property.

London is Serving Shade to Mitt Romney
Romney isn't getting to full-love treatment in London. Before he got there, he got a full plate of shade.
For example, British Prime Minister David Cameron reaffirmed his stance on Gay marriage a day before Romney landed in town.
He said:
“I think marriage is a great institution – I think it helps people to commit, it helps people to say that they’re going to care and love for another person. It helps people to put aside their selfish interests and think of the union that they’re forming. It’s something I feel passionately about and I think if it’s good enough for straight people like me, it’s good enough for everybody and that’s why we should have gay marriage and we will legislate for it.”And...
"My position is the same on gay marriage as it's been well, from the beginning, and that is that marriage is a relation between a man and a woman. That's the posture that I had as governor and I have that today."But that's not all, after his foolish gaffe about the Olympic games in London (he said that maybe London wasn't prepared to host the event), London's Mayor Boris Johnson came for Romney.
Watch:
This is not how you gain international friends, Mittens.
Philadelphia Councilman condemns Chick-Fil-A
Philadelphia Councilman Jim Kenney has joined others in the Chick-Fil-A call-out. Jim wrote a letter to Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy about his company's stance on gays:
"As an American you are legally entitled to your opinion, regardless of how insensitive and intolerant it may be, but as a fellow American and an elected member of Philadelphia City Council; I am entitled to express my opinion as well," the incensed letter reads. "So please – take a hike and take your intolerance with you. There is no place for this type of hate in our great City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.”
Jim is also planning to introduce a resolution condemning Chick-Fil-A's foolishness.

Not the sexy beast I had in mind
Here's the description from Bram Stoker's Dracula:
A tall old man, clean shaven save for a long white moustache… His face was a strong, a very strong, aquiline, with high bridge of the thin nose and peculiarly arched nostrils, with lofty domed forehead… His eyebrows were very massive, almost meeting over the nose, and with bushy hair that seemed to curl in its own profusion. The mouth, so far as I could see it under the heavy moustache, was fixed and rather cruel-looking… For the rest, his ears were pale, and at the tops extremely pointed. The chin was broad and strong, and the cheeks firm though thin… The blue eyes transformed with fury. And here he is:

Chicago ain't feeling Chick-Fil-A
Well they did in Boston and now, they are bringing it to the floor in Chi-town. No Chi-Fil-A up in here!
Ald.Proco "Joe" Moreno announced this week that he will block Chick-fil-A's effort to build its second Chicago store, which would be in the Logan Square neighborhood, following company President Dan Cathy's remarks last week that he was "guilty as charged" for supporting the biblical definition of marriage as between a man and woman.
"If you are discriminating against a segment of the community, I don't want you in the 1st Ward," Moreno told the Tribune on Tuesday.
Moreno stated his position in strong terms, referring to Cathy's "bigoted, homophobic comments" in a proposed opinion page piece that an aide also sent to Tribune reporters. "Because of this man's ignorance, I will now be denying Chick-fil-A's permit to open a restaurant in the 1st Ward."
Oh snap! This looks like a trend!

Plus, Derrick had to put up with my ego and stubbornness all these years... I'm very fortunate to have him in my life.
Kirk Cameron has been invited to speak to LGBT Bullied Youth
Oh, Juicy Juice! Former heartthrob Kirk Cameron has been invited to have lunch with a group of bullied LGBT teenagers in New Jersey this weekend.
Kirk is going to speak at a pro-marriage event called, "Love Worth Fighting For" in Ocean Grove. While he's there trying to save marriage, Corey Bernstein, the co-chair for Garden State Equality'sYouth Caucus, has invited Kirk to have lunch with bullied LGBT youth.
In his invitation to Kirk, Corey said:
"The problem is not just that you oppose marriage equality —a view we disagree with, but to which you are entitled in our free nation — but that you did so with such disregard for how we youth would perceive your words."So far, Kirk hasn't responded to the invitation.
“Haven’t my teen colleagues and I endured enough hurtful words at school? What kind of lesson might you, as a public figure, be giving to would-be bullies?”

First Look at the (New) Munsters in 'Mockingbird Lane'
Here's what the show creator, Bryan Fuller had to say about the series:
"The Munsters actually do what monsters do. They eat people and they have to live with the ramifications of being monstrous. It's like grounding it in a reality because the half-hour was a sitcom, we saw the monsters: they were monsters on the outside and weren't monsters on the inside. For us, they're monsters outside and inside, and we get to double our story."The cast includes Eddie Izzard as Grandpa, Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster, and Portia de Rossi as Lilly Munster.

10 Reasons why it's time for a Black Panther Movie
Yes, it's time for a Black Panther movie and I think Marvel should really get on this. Black Panther is a Marvel Comics staple. He's been in the game for years and folks need to know why he is a hero worthy of his own movie trilogy.
So, I came up with 10 reasons why T'Challa deserves big screen love:
- Black Panther has been in the comic game for over 50 years.
- T'Challa comes from a fascinating background. He is from Wakanda, a fictional African nation. This nation was not only full of mythical history, but it's the (Marvel) world's most technologically advanced nations.
- Black Panther was the first Black superhero in mainstream comics.
- He has had a pivotal role in the Marvel Universe. T'Challa has been a member of the Avengers, Fantastic Four and the Defenders. He has also taken on the role of Daredevil for a time. His brains and leadership has been imperative throughout Marvel's history. And did you know he's a Scientist and a Doctor?
- He is a f**king King of a nation.
- T'Challa has a strong supporting cast of allies and villains. From Storm to M'Baku the Man-Ape, there are plenty of characters that could assist in solid stories for the movies.
- And speaking of stories, Black Panther has a vast amount of stories to tell. As King of Wakanda or his adventures in America, there are plenty ideas to draw from.
- Marvel Studios would set a strong precedent for lead characters of color in films.
- T'Challa is an amazing character.
- We need a Black superhero. We know it will work, look at the Blade series. Black Panther could be a spark that sets off a new trend of Comic Book movies featuring heroes of color.
The First Woman Astronaut revealed to be a Lesbian
The world was shocked to hear of the death of Sally Ride, the 1st woman astronaut. Now, we have some news that Sally was a lesbian.
The announcement puts the start of their relationship at around 1985 -- while Ride was still married to fellow astronaut Steven Hawley. Sally Ride Science spokeswoman Terry McEntee confirmed the announcement -- when asked if Ride was gay, she said, "Yes. That's true. What's on the website is true."I understand she had her reasons. I'm glad to know she was happy in her life.
Ride's sister, Bear, who is also gay, told New Times Monday night that her sister never publicly revealed her sexual orientation because of a closely held commitment to her personal privacy.
"Sally was a profoundly private person. It was just part of who she was. We chalk that up to being Norwegian," Bear said. "She had a sense of 'this is family stuff.'"
But Bear said Sally didn't make any efforts to hide the relationship: "They went places together, they're in business together, they wrote books together," she said. "We consider Tam a member of the family."
But that desire for privacy, Bear said, is what kept Sally from taking a stand on gay rights.
"We all have our dreams and wishes, and that might be yours or mine, but she's just like, you probably dont know what her politics are either. It's a family matter," Bear said. "That wasn't her battle of choice -- the battle of choice was science education for kids. And I just hope that all the different components of sally's life go towards helping kids."
