Haters in Maine Continues Mess
These folks are pathetic.
The Stand for Marriage campaign of Maine have submitted more than 100,000 signatures to force the gay marriage law to a vote.
As you can see, they have delivered boxes of foolishness to the secretary of state's office in hopes to be certified.
However, they need more 55,087 signatures and the signatures have to be certified by Sept. 4.

Just a short-mini rant about the Comic-Con Gays in Comics panel Coverage
I'm a little sad there was not a lot of coverage of the SDCC Gays in Comics panel.
I noticed on my news feed a few links to my quick coverage. When I checked them out, they were linked to forums or a few other gay websites saying that my post was all they could find.
But I would've like to see our issues in the mainstream comic blogs and sites. Many of these blogs covered most of the other panel discussions, but not the Gay ones. I shouldn't expect them to, however it would be nice to be included in the mix.
I also noticed that a few gay blogs covered the panel as well. However, they did focused on the hottest guys at Comic-Con, but again, it would've been nice to see our own peeps talk about the breakthroughs and triumphs we are making in the comic book world.
Washington Judge Protects the Names of the Haters... For Now
In the continuing battle of gay marriages and rights, the Haters in Washington somehow gathered enough signatures (Referendum 71) to repeal the state's new domestic partners law.
So with that in mind, LGBT supporters said alright, but we will make the names public so we all can see the foolishness, but U.S. District Judge Benjamin H. Settle granted a temporary restraining order to hold the releasing the Haters' names.
Judge Settle cited that absence in his written order, and also gave what appears to be a nod to the strength of the referendum backers' case, writing that they "have sufficiently demonstrated a reasonable likelihood of success on the merits" of their First Amendment claim, and "a reasonable likelihood of irreparable harm if the names are released."
Larry Stickney, campaign manager with Protect Marriage Washington, called the judge's decision a good outcome. He and the group's attorney, Stephen Pidgeon, high-fived one another in the courtroom as they read the written order.
"We think it's good news," Stickney said.
A consortium of religious conservative organizations, Protect Marriage Washington on Saturday submitted 138,500 signatures to the secretary of state seeking to force Referendum 71 onto the November ballot.
At least 120,577 of the signatures must be valid for the referendum to qualify.
Tom Lang, director of knowthyneighbor.org, which plans to post the names on that Web site, said he was intensely disappointed Washington failed to defend its own public disclosure law in court.
I am disappointed too, Tom. Hopefully, you will release those names and put those fools on blast. However, we may not have to worry, the signatures maybe be invalid anyways.

Dumb Article of the Day: Queerty's How Come Obama Isn't Inviting Gay-Hating Cops and Their Victims to the White House?
Just when I thought Queerty was getting their act together, they do this:
Barack Obama ate his own words responding to the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. when he said the police acted "stupidly" in arrested the prof. He's since apologized for his language, because it looks bad if the White House calls local police names. So to make things all warm and fuzzy, Obama invited Gatse and James Crowley, the Cambridge police sergeant who arrested him, to the White House to make nice. All over what can be boiled down to a scuffle between a cop and a man who forced his way into his own home. So how come Obama doesn't open the White House's doors to another cop-v-civilian encounter — that's actually rooted in bias?Gates himself has eschewed any notion that his arrest was based in racial profiling; he says he's glad the cops were called! Crowley, meanwhile, teaches a police class on race. So from all corners of this event, it appears the whole white v. black issue is, mostly, moot.
But ya know where claims of police arrests based on bias are not dying down? In the case of the Stonewall-style raid of Ft. Worth bar Rainbow Lounge in June. While Gates' incident resulted in handcuffs and a media storm, the Rainbow Lounge "incident" left Chad Gibson in the hospital with a bleeding brain and weeks of recovery ahead of him. Not exactly apples to apples, is it?
So how come the president isn't opening his doors to Gibson and the Ft. Worth Police (and Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission) so they can have a make-nice pow-wow? Even after both the cops and the TABC admitted wrongdoing?
Perhaps because Gibson isn't an Ivy League crony of Obama's. Perhaps because Texas is too far off Obama's radar. Or perhaps because that would mean Obama would have to involve himself in those gay issues again.
Please, this too far out there. They should remember that Obama misspoke and he wanted to apologize to the cops. Obama had nothing to do with the Texas situation, so it would be silly to invite them to the White House.
Also if that was the case, then he would need to invite, the cops who racially profile, use the wrong procedures, arrest the wrong people, use police brutality, launder, sleep with hookers as a way to get out of jail free and other crazy reasons I don't feel like listing.
Queerty, we know you are trying to bring readers to your site, but there has to be a better way than this.
True Blood is a REAL Drink
I forgot to mention this, but they revealed this info at Comic-Con.
The blood-orange carbonated drink has a slightly tart and lightly sweet flavor that is sure to taste better than the O negative blood consumed by the show's fictional vampires.
Crafted to replicate the appearance of the synthetic blood beverage preferred by the undead in the series, the real-life drink will also be called Tru Blood.
I'll try it. I'll do it to support the show.
Schwarzwarenegger Cuts HIV/AIDS funding in Cali
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger slashed all HIV/AIDS funding for prevention and care management programs in Cali.
This is a devastating blow to service groups and the people affected with the disease. I know things had to change, but this? HIV/AIDS funding had to suffer?
What about the people who needs the funding, the education, the counseling?
This is a horrible message to send to our citizens.

I was Hit by a Drunk Driver
Last night, I was going to Whole Foods to get dinner. When I was at a stop light, this guy hit me from behind. It wasn't a big bump, but you could definitely feel it.
So I got out to look at the damage; luckily it was a minor scratch, however the driver was out of it. He gave me his info and mumbled a few things. I suggested that we pull off to the side handle this. The witnesses flagged the cops to check things out. Now I have to admit I was nervous about L.A.P.D., but we were out by The Grove, so I had faith.
As the cops talked to the guy, they realized that he was drunk and didn't have an ID. Then he start cussing at the cops, which lead into him getting cuffed and put down on the ground. I was totally floored by this, until they start asking me questions.
The cop, who was very cute, asked me...
- Did I have any tattoos?
- Where was I born?
- What was the name of the city I lived in?
- Do I have any nick names?
- Am I a member of any gangs?
He gave me this weird look, before laughing. I apologized, but I guess I wasn't "there" at the moment.
As they put the guy in police car, I start to feel bad for him. I wasn't trying to get him arrested, I only got the cops involved for insurance purposes. I told the cop I didn't want the guy to get arrested. But the cop said, that he was completely drunk and I was lucky that it was just a tap on the back bumper. Then it hit me, I was hit by a drunk driver.
But I was still worried about the guy and his life. What if he had a family? What if he lost his job and today, he drank to chill out? I know I was over thinking things, but I hope this didn't cause him to lose his job or something like that.
However, I am glad it was a minor accident. I truly hope that guy thinks about what happen. He was very lucky he taken from the car, no telling what could've happened if he was still on the road.

- Bill Willingham, writer of JSA, was only there for 5 minutes. However, he promised to put the openly gay Obsidian in the spotlight and he won't be joining the list of gay characters who are "straightened out".

Yesterday, Rep. Jerry Nadler revealed the DOMA repeal bill may only recognize married same-sex couples and not civil unions or domestic partnerships.
My question is... What happens now?
Will it be a state issue? Will it get tangled in repeals and policies?
I'm hopeful, but it may take longer than we expected.

Horror in Real Time
This is too much and horrible. So horrible!
The scene was so gruesome investigators could barely speak: A 3 1/2-week-old boy lay dismembered in the bedroom of a single-story house, three of his tiny toes chewed off, his face torn away, his head severed and his brains ripped out."At this particular scene you could have heard a pin drop," San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said Monday. "No one was speaking. It was about as somber as it could have been."
Officers called to the home early Sunday found the boy's mother, Otty Sanchez, sitting on the couch with a self-inflicted wound to her chest and her throat partially slashed, screaming "I killed my baby! I killed my baby!" police said. She told officers the devil made her do it, police said.
Sanchez, 33, apparently ate the child's brain and some other body parts before stabbing herself, McManus said.
"It's too heinous for me to describe it any further," McManus told reporters.
Sanchez is charged with capital murder in the death of her son, Scott Wesley Buccholtz-Sanchez. She was being treated Monday at a hospital, and was being held on $1 million bail.

The discussions were awesome. They talked about the Shatterstar and Rictor romance, diversifying the gay characters, Wonder Woman, the changes they hope to see and what else can be done to strengthen LGBT characters in comics.
It was great to see our family members representing in the geek and comic world. Sometimes in L.A., all you see is the plastic and shallow side of gay life; but at this panel discussion, I felt at home.
The crowd was very receptive and the panelists were fascinating. It was a purely a wonderful time. And... I got to meet Gay Comic Geek! Paul is very nice and sweet guy.
So this was a great closing event for my Comic-Con experience. Oh, this was their 22nd year in doing the panel, so congrats on continuing the legacy.

Cali's Marriage Equality Leadership Summit was a Bust
While I was chillin' at Comic-Con, hopes for marriage equality in Cali was on it's last lifeline.
According to the blog, Unite the Fight, this Sunday's Marriage Equality Leadership Summit only reinforced the foolishness and drama within our own house.
Here's some highlights:
- Or maybe it's because the California LGBT population has cannibalized its leadership to the point where no one is willing to take the unpopular stance of leading this wounded community made up of people that will bite anyone's head off who has a slightly different opinion from theirs. Whatever you believe the reason to be, the Leadership Summit on Sunday was an utter failure. And we have no one to blame but ourselves.
- Our community has splintered into factions lead by no one, going in all different directions with various agendas, some with good intentions, but many motivated by egos in attempt to out maneuver the other, causing us to fight each other instead of those who have taken away our rights. And why? Because our leadership once failed us in a disastrous campaign which ended not with rights being denied us, but rights we enjoyed being stripped away from us, leaving us naked and exposed. And now we're so anti-leadership, we have spiraled into a quagmire of anarchy with no visible way out.
- We have become what we've hated. Right after the election, we were right to be angry at our leadership. We were right to demand accountability, something that was missing during the campaign. We were right to demand an apology for such a historical mishap, which has failed to occur. But we have taken it too far and for too long. In such a short amount of time, we have cannibalized our leadership to the point where we barely have any, and those who remain have nearly given up on the community, refuse to take a stand to lead again, or have been forced into the shadows to do things, yet again, without community involvement. (After witnessing the summit, who would want to involve us?) We are now what our leadership once was - unaccountable.
How dare we demand Obama to do his job, when we can't do ours. This is very telling of the lack of a strong LGBT community and commitment to change.
I asked months ago if we were ready for a real civil rights movement and I believe we are nowhere near ready.
I guess I need to put on my bracelets and tiara to get this stuff poppin'. It's going to take folks who are not about the fame and glory. It's going to be the real people who will get us there. I just hope they step up soon.
Question of the Day: Prop 8 style
Y'all, I feel a mess coming on in Cali.
- There's some huge disagreements about when to repeal Prop 8 and if we should wait another year or two.
- Then there's in-fighting between Prepare to Prevail, Equality Calfornia, the Courage Campaign, and Love Honor Cherish about the next steps.
- The non-support and then wanting to support the federal case to repeal Prop 8.
- Also we have folks like David Mixner sounding off about different strategies.
With all of this malarkey, I can't help but to think we are our own worst enemy, but here is my question.
As this mess continues to steal the fight from our cause... Are we in danger of losing it all?

I Loved Orphan!
During some downtime at Comic-Con, I made my way to the movies to see Orphan.
Now, y'all know I love, love, love the poster; I could sleep with it.
But back to the movie... What can I say, I loved it!
The plot was familiar, however it was a different take on the Bad Seed kid-thing. Esther is something else that is more malefic and evil. She's insane, but is a good version of insanity that I haven't seen in a while. The young actress gave the role of Esther power and sense of horror that is awesome.
The family story is also great and different than most generic families placed in these type of films.
I don't want to spoil it, but it is a fun movie. A few cheesy lines, but nothing bad. I love it and I loved Esther.

From Comic-Con: True Blood Panel
The True Blood panel was great. I stood in line for about 2 hours, but it was worth it.
So here are some points.
- There will be more books, at least 3 more.
- Sookie will get "ghetto" on Bill's maker.
- Maryann will be challenged.
- We will meet the Queen.
- Those religious crazies will pull out all the stops.
- We will meet more dangerous vampires.
- New vampires join the fold.
- Tera will deal with Maryann.
- Eric will change everything.
Oh, Eric or Alexander Skarsgard is truly hot and tall.
From Comic-Con: My Hotel
The hotel I stayed in hosted Chippendales both nights.
I have to say those guys are cute and very rowdy at 3am.
From Comic-Con: The Vampire Diaries is the "Ishtar" of the Fall Season
At Comic-Con, you get to see the pilots for most supernatural and sci-fi like shows. The lines are incredibly long, but usually worth it.
But not CW's, The Vampire Diaries.
That session was the talk of the evening. During the Gay in Comics mixer, folks were bashing it royally. They even left the screening early, saying it was a bad wet dream. Several viewers were making jokes, saying: they would rather lose their balls than to sit through that mess again.
Other reviews were just as bad. i09 said:
Sadly VD makes Twilight look like Shakespeare. This show is a giant sparkle of crap.
The Examiner:
The reception wasn't the greatest for the "Twilight-like" TV show. It wasn't that bad, but it had many similarities to the Stephenie Meyer story, and they seemed to be unpopular with the "Twilight" heavy crowd.
It's almost enough to make one feel bad for the show until one considers that, well, "The Vampire Diaries" pretty much sucks.
There's more, but I'll stop the hater party. However, it doesn't look good for the show's future. I knew it would be bad, but we will see how CW struggles to keep the show alive.
But on a great note, the True Blood session was the bomb!!! More of that later.

E. Lynn Harris died
E. Lynn Harris has died at age 54.
He was a great writer and storyteller of the Black LGBT community. He will be missed.

Trans Murder Monitoring Project reveals more than 200 reported murders of trans persons in the last 1 1/2 years
In April 2009 the international NGO Transgender Europe (TGEU) in cooperation with the multilingual Online-Magazine “Liminalis — A Journal for Sex/Gender Emancipation and Resistance” started a new project, the /Trans Murder Monitoring Project/, which focuses on systematically reporting murdered trans people on a worldwide scale.
The very preliminary results of the first step of this project have revealed a total of 204 cases of reported murders of trans people world wide in the last 1 1/2 years. 121 cases of murdered trans people have been reported in 2008. From January to June 2009 already 83 cases of murdered trans people have been reported.
Furthermore, the preliminary results show an increase in the number of reports of murdered trans people over the last years. Since the beginning of 2008 the murder of a trans person is reported every third day, on average.
The cases have been reported from all six World regions: North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The majority of cases have been reported from Latin America and North America. On these continents the majority of cases have been reported from Brazil (59) and the U.S.A. (16) for 2008 and from Brazil (23), Venezuela (20), and Guatemala (10) for the first six months of 2009. Moreover, the preliminary results show a total of 11 murdered trans people reported for Colombia followed by 5 for Honduras and 4 for Mexico and Venezuela for 2008, and 6 for Mexico and 3 for Argentina, and the Dominican Republic for the first six months of 2009.
In total 91 murders of trans people were reported in 11 Latin American countries in 2008, and 73 murders of trans people in 11 Latin American countries in the first six months of 2009. The reported murders of trans people in Latin America account for 75% and 88% of the world wide reported murders of trans people in 2008 and the first six months of 2009 respectively.**

A Sailor has been Charged for August Provost's Death
Interesting news, y'all
The U.S. Navy says a sailor has been charged in military court with murder and other offenses in the shooting death of a gay San Diego seaman.
Petty Officer Jonathan Campos of Lancaster, Calif., was charged Thursday in connection to last month's fatal shooting of Seaman August Provost of Houston.
They say Campos, a 32-year-old gas system technician, is being held at the brig and is cooperating with investigators.
I am curious to see what happens next. If he is the killer, then we need to know why.

Anthony Woods gains Endorsements
Anthony Woods is the guy who's running for California's 10th congressional district seat.
Oh, and he's gay.
But that's not the news, this is: he has earned the endorsements of the Human Rights Campaign and the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund.
Getting nods from HRC and the Victory Fund were coups for the 28-year-old Woods, a two-tour Iraq war vet who impressed some observers recently by raising more than $100,000 for the quarter ended June 30 -- a solid showing for a first-time candidate. Gay groups don't automatically endorse LGBT candidates unless they demonstrate an ability to execute a campaign strategy and compete financially.
"Anthony Woods is an exciting candidate with a tremendous record of accomplishment," said Chuck Wolfe, president of the Victory Fund. "He's also running an impressive campaign. Anthony has assembled a solid campaign team that understands what it will take to win this extremely competitive race."
Looks good for Woods, I hope he will win.
Gilibrand say it's a No Go on DADT
Well, she tried.
A couple of weeks ago, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand considered presenting an amendment to a defense bill that would grant a 18-month moratorium on discharges under DADT.
But according to her office, she couldn't muster enough votes to get it poppin'.

"Faulkner, 23, was preparing to come out to deeply religious family in Arkansas when his mother discovered his emails to his boyfriend, Travis who lives in Wisconsin. Bryce was given an ultimatum of being kicked out of his family and put out on the street or going into ex-gay therapy. Before Bryce disappeared his boyfriend Travis recieved one last phone call on June 15th and was crying uncontrollably saying, ‘You should have heard the mean and hateful things they said about me. They made me read out loud passages from the Bible’. 'One of the last things he said to me before falling asleep was, ‘Promise me you will be strong for me and for us’.' Travis said. Travis believes Bryce may be at an Exodus International ministry in Florida. He said a friend of the family had heard Faulkner would be in Mississippi for three weeks and then in Florida for 14 months. His friends have created a ‘Save Bryce’ web campaign to find out where the student is."
