In Oklahoma: State Rep. proposed a Bill to end Marriage Licenses
New foolishness in Oklahoma.
State Representative Todd Russ proposed House Bill 1125. The goal is to make all marriages go through religious clergy and end marriage licenses.
Here's more:
Republican Representative Todd Russ says under House Bill 1125, a marriage would have to be signed off by a preacher, minister, priest, rabbi or ecclesiastical dignitary. These folks are truly trying to fight against equality. It's a losing battle, but I guess that the thing for these haters. Keep fighting to the end? Who knows.
"Put it back to what it was supposed to be and was originally a holy matrimony and a very solemn and spiritual vow," said Rep. Russ.
If approved, Russ says the roles of judges or retired judges would change. They would no longer be able to perform marriage ceremonies. Some strongly oppose it because of what they believe it symbolizes.
"It doesn't put the county officials into the business of condoning it or approving it or licensing it," said Rep. Russ.
The court clerk's office would take record of the marriage certificates given to couples that would be recognized by the state. Those not wanting to get married by a religious official could file an affidavit through the court clerk's office claiming common-law marriage.
"They don't have a spiritual basis for a marriage and don't want to have a clergy member or a priest or someone involved in the spiritual aspect, then they can file an affidavit of common-law marriage," explained Rep. Russ.
Russ says this bill is a way for the State of Oklahoma to prove its independent rights as a state to make laws.

Oklahoma Tea Party Candidate would be fine if Gays were Stoned To Death!
This man above is Scott Esk and he's running for House District 91 state representative in Oklahoma.
He's the classic conservative... And a bit crazy.
In an early Facebook post, Scott said that we should be stoned to death. It was noted by Rob Morris (he runs the Moore Monthly magazine and the MooreDaily.com in the OK area), who later questioned Scott about this interesting statement.
He responded with this:
“I think we would be totally in the right to do it. That goes against some parts of libertarianism, I realize, and I’m largely libertarian, but ignoring as a nation things that are worthy of death is very remiss.”Scott also said:
“What I will tell you right now is that was done in the old testament under a law that came directly from God. And in that time, it was totally just, it came directly from God. I have no plans to, you know, reinstitute that in Oklahoma law. I do have some very huge moral misgivings about those kinds of sins.”No joke, folks. These statements were not taken very well and made headlines in the news

Brain Brown on Oklahoma
Today, the National Organization for Marriage renews its call for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The decision by U.S District Court Judge Terence Kern in Oklahoma is the latest in a string of examples of the dangers posed to state marriage laws when the avenue of debate is the federal court system. We need firm legislative action to protect the rights of the states and their citizens to make their own determinations regarding the definition of marriage without interference from federal appointees either in the courts or within the executive branch.source
Gov. Mary Fallin whines over Oklahoma
"In 2004, the people of Oklahoma voted to amend the state's constitution to define marriage as ‘the union of one man and one woman.’ That amendment passed with 75 percent support. The people of Oklahoma have spoken on this issue. I support the right of Oklahoma's voters to govern themselves on this and other policy matters. I am disappointed in the judge's ruling and troubled that the will of the people has once again been ignored by the federal government.

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin Denies National Guard Same-Sex Benefits
This trick needs to go!
Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin ordered the National Guard to stop granting requests to give military benefits for gay couples. I guess she forgot about the Pentagon making this change not too long ago.
Messy Mary Fallin claims she just being a good Governor by listening to her voters, well buckle up, Mary; because the sh*t about to go down on you.
Stephen Peters, president of the American Military Partner Association, is calling for the Defense Department to "stop this discrimination."
He said:
"Since the governor of Oklahoma has decided to join Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana in playing politics with our military families, we need immediate and decisive action from the administration and the defense department in affirming that all military spouses, regardless of sexual orientation, will be treated equally."I can't wait to see how this turns out.

A Transgender Woman is the new President of the Young Democrats of Oklahoma
I learned at the Stonewall Democrats Awards that Brittany Novotny was elected president of the Young Democrats of Oklahoma.
Brittany made headlines last year by going against the evil and hateful Sally Kern for Oklahoma District Assembly. She didn't win, but she did pretty good in that area.
I am glad that Brittany's hard work and dedication wasn't in vain. I'm wishing her luck and strength in leading this eager group of democratic leaders.

Hate-crimes exclusion bill is DEAD in the Oklahoma House

The crazy ass Hate Crimes Exclusion Bill died in the Oklahoma House committee, thanks to the help of Rep. Mike Shelton.
Rep. Mike Shelton, D-Oklahoma City, became the House author of Senate Bill 1965, by Sen. Steven Russell, R-Oklahoma City.It was foolish of Sen. Steven Russell to even present this idea in the first place. Maybe he will learn from his myopic actions.
Shelton said he took control of the bill to kill it and asked that the bill not get heard in the House Judiciary Committee.
Russell said he had substantially rewritten the bill from its original version. Under the new language, if local law enforcement objected to turning information over to the federal government in a hate-crimes investigation, federal authorities would have to file a petition in court showing good cause why they needed the information, Russell said.
If local law enforcement didn’t object to turning over the information, court approval would not be needed, Russell said.
Russell said the law is needed to protect free speech after the passage of a federal law that added sexual orientation or gender identity to the categories protected under the federal hate-crimes law.
President Barack Obama signed the law in October. Oklahoma’s existing hate-crimes law does not include sexual orientation or gender identity.
Shelton said SB 1965 would have prohibited Oklahoma law enforcement agencies from cooperating with any federal agency in the investigation of a federal hate crime.

Someone Lay Hands on Oklahoma

This is stupidity, karma and mess all in one.
Lawmakers in Oklahoma thought they’d figured out a way to exempt the state from enforcing the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Act, which added protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity to the federal hate crimes act. But thanks to “a legislative error,” the Oklahoma senate has instead passed a bill that sidesteps protections based on race and religion.
This is an American Tragedy

OK. Sen. Steve Russell thinks Hate Crime files should stay local and Not Federal

In Oklahoma City, Sen. Steve Russell submitted an amendment that will keep his state from complying with the federal hate crimes law!
He wants the Oklahoma's Hate Crimes cases to stay local.
Under the new provisions of Senate Bill 1965, reports that were collected during investigations of possible hate crime that did not end in a conviction would be destroyed or kept by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Russell said the bill is meant to prevent the federal law enforcement officials from taking over a case and applying different standards when local law enforcement has already investigated a case.
Only a few senators questioned Russell about the contents of his proposed amendment. The measure passed 39-6 and now heads to the House for consideration.
Russell said his bill is meant to protect speech of all kinds.
"We just don’t want the pendulum to swing too far the other way,” he said. "This protects people to do or say whatever they want, as long as it complies with local ordinances.”
Russell said hate crimes should be prosecuted by local officials and not the federal government. He said the language is still being studied, but does not prevent local law enforcement from requesting help.
I'm not sure if this will go completely forward. It seems that more issues would arise if these incidents stay in the state.

Someone lay hands on Sapulpa, Oklahoma
Really? You are a frakking newspaper, report the news! To hear the him say that he would've done the same thing for McCain is a lie. He just proved his foolishness and ignorance. Publisher Darren Sumner knows he's wrong for that and I hope he think about what he did. The news is important, your ignorance is not.
