Gus Kenworthy gets Heat for Disrespectful Halloween Pic
Gus Kenworthy made headlines for coming out recently. The Olympian freeskier quickly grabbed attention mostly for his hot looks and well, his hot looks. But sadly, just when you thought it was safe to give all of the praise and glory... He does this on Instagram.
Yes, the classic cultural appropriation. Something that easily happens on a regular basis these days. As soon as the pic posted, folks came for him. Interesting enough, he had this statement along with the pic
No boo, it's more than just having fun. It's being disrespectful. However, some folks don't get it or always arrive late to the social justice party. Gus was sorry for what he did and removed the pic, but hopefully he won't this again. Maybe he learned something from this... Maybe

Cherokee Nation comes for Scott Brown over his Racist Campaign Actions
It was a fail of sorts; many folks called him out on it. But then, this happened:
That was Brown's campaign staffers mocking Warren in a racist chant.
And then, this happened:
After that, the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation Bill John Baker, had enough and wrote this:
“The conduct of these individuals goes far beyond what is appropriate and proper in political discourse. The use of stereotypical ‘war whoop chants’ and ‘tomahawk chops’ are offensive and downright racist.”Think Progress reports:
Baker called on Brown to “apologize for the offensive actions of his staff and their uneducated, unenlightened and racist portrayal of native peoples,” and said, “A campaign that would allow and condone such offensive and racist behavior must be called to task for their actions."
Warren’s Cherokee and Delaware Native American ancestry has been a frequent line of attack for Brown, with the campaign even running ads on the topic. The Senator did say Tuesday, however, that he did not “condone” their actions.Scott is being a frat boy about this. He needs to get this mess under control because this foolishness will become his legacy.

The Suquamish Tribe approves Gay Marriages
This is fantastic news this morning:
The Tribal Council voted unanimously Monday to change the law, the Kitsap Sun, of Bremerton, Wash., reported.Congrats to all of Heather's hard work.
Heather Purser, 28, has been spearheading the campaign to get the tribe to change its law since she came out as a lesbian about four years ago, the newspaper said.
"I wanted to feel accepted," she said. "The Suquamish Tribe has always been my home."
She spoke in March at the tribe's general council meeting, asking for recognition for same-sex couples and requesting a vote of the entire audience.
Purser was surprised by the amount of support she received.
"I was expecting a major fight. I didn't think anyone would support me," she said, adding that she did not hear any voiced dissent.
"Really it was the Suquamish people who approved this," she said. "The general council is really what made everything happen."

Will We have a Sacheen Littlefeather moment tonight?
Think about it, someone could decline their award because DADT, ENDA and DOMA still exist or Prop 8 is still active.
Maybe I'm crazy, but it would be interesting to see.

New Trailer: Two Spirits
Here's more from the website:
Two Spirits, a documentary directed by Lydia Nibley and produced by Say Yes Quickly Productions, received a standing ovation from a sell-out crowd of more than five hundred people at its world premiere on Saturday, November 21 at the Starz Denver Film Festival.
Members of the Two-Spirit Society of Denver performed honor songs before and after the screening to bless the film's work in the world and honor the memory of Fred Martinez. The film was followed by a panel discussion and reception hosted by the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
Fred Martinez was nádleehí—someone who possesses a balance of masculine and feminine traits—a special gift according to his traditional Navajo culture. But his determination to express his truest identity tragically cost him his life. At age sixteen, he was one of the youngest hate-crime victims in modern history when he was murdered in Cortez, Colorado.
Thanks to Mad Professah for the tip.

Let My 1/8th People Go!

The Washington Redskins have a different victory in the ongoing battle against a group of American Indians about the racially degrading nickname. This has been a 16 year battle between them and usually it's a back and forth fight. But this time the Washington Redskins took the lead.
In a ruling dated June 25 and first circulated Thursday, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ruled that the youngest of the seven Native American plaintiffs waited too long after turning 18 to file the lawsuit that attempts to revoke the Redskins trademarks.
The lead plaintiff, Suzan Shown Harjo, president of the Washington-based Morning Star Institute that advances Native American causes, is going to appeal.
They initially won - the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office panel canceled the trademarks in 1999 - but Kollar-Kotelly overturned the ruling in 2003 in part because the suit was filed decades after the first Redskins trademark was issued in 1967.
I understand there's money involved with these teams, but the name still upsets and stings. They should look at the emotional and cultural damage this foolishness have caused. After all the Native Americans have been through, this should not be an issue. But it is, and heartbreaking to see this madness continue on.The Stuff
