My Review: My Soul to Take

I just saw My Soul To Take tonight in Murray (I missed the old theater, The Cheri) and I was truly disappointed. I don't know what this was suppose to be. It was like a combination of Scream and Nightmare on Elm Street, and not in a good way. This movie was... incomplete.

So here is my bullet point review.
  • The opening scene was cute, it was predicable but it gave a glimmer of hope on what the movie could have been.
  • It was funny to have the entire town of 16 year old kids out in the woods at midnight and nobody knew about it.
  • The mystical pieces of the movie was slapped together, there was no stable feel behind it.
  • The Ripper's existence was never clear. He was just there.
  • There's no reason or purpose behind the mysterious births of the 7 teens. Why was it so special?
  • Ripper was trying to kill the 7 teens, but why? That was never explained.
  • Actually it reminded me of Freddy going after the Elm street kids... But at least Freddy had a reason.
  • Bug's (lead character) was supposedly schizophrenic, but it didn't tie in well to the movie.
  • Bug's sister was mad at him, but the reason and not make any sense in the big scheme of things.
  • There was talk about the parents going to the "church" for protection. But it was never fleshed out. That piece could have been a vital part of the story.
  • The parents seem to know everything, but that wasn't talked about in the film.
  • The birthday/turning point scene was bunched up.
  • The "legend" of the 7 teens/killer's soul was not explained properly, it was just thrown in the movie.
  • The issue of 'souls' and mystical signs could have been played out more.
  • The characters were good, just need more from the script.
  • The 3rd Act felt like it was pieced together at the last minute.
  • There was no real tie in at the end of the movie. It felt rushed. There were parts that didn't make sense at all.
  • This should have been a DVD release.
Basically, I wasn't feeling it.
