Bastards!
The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) taunts us by celebrating the Rhode Island House Judiciary Committee's decision to put gay marriage up to a vote.
“Representatives Brien, Azzinaro, Menard, Savage, and Palumbo understand that such an important issue deserves to be decided on by the people themselves. Rhode Islanders have had the opportunity to vote on Ports and Casinos, and this fall will vote on changing the name of the State, none of which is as important as marriage,” stated Christopher Plante, executive director of NOM’s Rhode Island chapter.Bastards!
“Voters in Rhode Island want the legislature to focus on doing their job, like addressing pressing issues such as a projected $219 million budget deficit for fiscal year 2010, the nation’s third highest unemployment rate, and the continued effort to find ways to make Rhode Island economically competitive again. Taking up the marriage issue as a legislative issue forces our elected officials to circumvent other critical issues facing Rhode Island today,” said Plante. “Give voters their voice on the issue of marriage and let the legislature get back to work.”

Here's the latest. The sponsor of the bill, Rep. Brien has withdrawn/postponed the hearing.
I would hope our openly gay speaker quashes this post haste.
