We Actually NEED to Keep Hope Alive

After reading several articles and blog posts on LGBT issues, I realized that there's a reason why many people are frustrated. Judging by the tone of these posts and articles, there’s no hope!

The LGBT community is doomed, done, lost, OVAH! According to many posts, we should never trust the government, everybody’s out to get us and our civil rights are gone with the wind.

However, I want us to take a minute and just let all of that dismal thinking go. Read the posts closely and look at how they take the story.

See here:

Well, if that happens, we can kiss the repeal of DADT goodbye. Because next year, it's being predicted that we will no longer control the House. And if that happens, not a single pro-gay piece of legislation will pass this congress for years to come.

If you break it down, John is getting fired up over something that hasn’t happened! This is an idea, a prediction. It’s like he's looking for a fight. And he’s not alone, there are others who are serving us hot water and calling it soup.

We should not get overly caught up about many of these matters. For the first time in history, we are getting many initiatives in place; we are seeing movement in issues like DADT, ENDA and marriage that we haven’t seen before. So why are we doubting everything? Why are these bloggers painting the future in despair?

We can’t continue living in fear from predictions or fever dreams. Remember, one of the key pieces in the Civil Rights movement was hope. They stuck with it and kept moving. They had no time for silly rants or overdramatic fallouts. They actually, kept hope alive and we have to do the same thing. We need to believe and trust in the system. It’s going to take time, that’s just the honest truth. We have to remain strong and look for the silver lining. But if we fall victim to these negative tones, half-truths and teabaggery, we will lose this battle.

Schwartz to_____ the X-Men

Great Hera, please read this!

Twentieth Century Fox is gearing up to continue its "X-Men" franchise with a younger set of mutants.

Studio has tapped "Gossip Girl" creator Josh Schwartz to write "X-Men: First Class."

Schwartz, the creator and exec producer of CW's teen sudser hit as well as Fox's youth-centric "The OC" and NBC's "Chuck," is expected to inject a next-gen sensibility into the superhero series, which has earned $1.2 billion worldwide.

Writing assignment has also included the possibility of directing the pic, but so far Schwartz has opted not to take the helm.

Lauren Shuler Donner, who produced all three "X-Men" pics, as well as next summer's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," is producing "First Class" alongside "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" scribe Simon Kinberg.

Fox is keeping quiet on plans and declined to confirm details of the project. The studio has been considering ways to continue its successful series of "X-Men" movies after the third installment, the Brett Ratner-helmed "X-Men: The Last Stand," collected $459 million in 2006.

Fox has been leaning toward using the younger characters introduced in the previous pics in future installments -- teenagers with powers taught at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.

Resulting film would likely draw from elements of the Marvel comic of the same name, launched in 2006, and enlist such characters as Iceman, Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee and Shadowcat, who have appeared prominently or made cameos in prior pics.

Given Hollywood's penchant for reboots with new actors playing familiar roles, pic could also reintroduce characters. Comicbook revolves around the Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman, Angel and Professor X.

Naturally, "First Class" could also result in its own series of sequel.

Okay, I have been harsh on Josh. Chuck ain't that bad and Gossip Girl...well I still hate that. Still, I can't feel him working on the merry mutants. After Brett Rat-man destroyed X-Men 3, I was done. And now, I can't...I don't know... Josh is responsible for the train wrecks, OC and Gossip Hag.

I need to see more from him; I need to know that I can trust him with my favorite comic series. I'm sure he is a good writer, but this is a serious issue. The X-Men are not for play, the stories have shaped the way some of us read comics. Josh, please do this right! Please!

Prop 8

I believe there will be a chance for hope. I don't think we are done. There are a lot of factors we have to believe in.

For example, under CA law that alterations of fundamental rights cannot to done with a mere amendment via majority vote of the electorate. This would constitute a "revision" of the Cali-cal Constitution would requires 2/3 vote of both Houses of Legislature AND a 2/3 vote by the electorate or alternatively a State Constitutional Convention called by 2/3 vote of both houses.

It could possibly fail there.

Or Prop. 8 could be considered unconstitutional, like the interracial marriage issue was back in the day. Remember Obama's Surpreme CT picks could take it out like an assassin.

I still have hope that it will fail. I have to believe that once the dust settles, Prop 8 will be a distant memory and we will have the most basic right in our society.
