Laurence Fishburne is the New Perry White in Superman

First a Black Batman, then a Biracial Spider-Man and now, a Black Perry White. Yes, the big cheese of the Daily Planet will be played by Morpheus.

EW has the story:
Laurence Fishburne will play Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White in Man of Steel, EW has learned exclusively. White has traditionally been a hard-charging, old fashioned newspaperman, who relies on his ace reporters, Clark and Lois, to get the big scoop.
I have to say that diversity is running wild in the comic book/movie world.

Superman News: Michael Shannon is General Zod

Warner Bros. Pictures released world that Michael Shannon will be General Zod in the new Superman movie “Man of Steel.”
As General Zod, Shannon will go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Michael Shannon was honored with an Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Shannon was most recently seen in the award-winning HBO drama series “Boardwalk Empire,” from executive producer Martin Scorsese. He will next be seen in Sony Pictures Classics', "Take Shelter," from director/writer Jeff Nichols.
He's a good actor, I'm sure he will bring it.

Kneel Before... Viggo? Is this our new Zod? Hope so.

Hot news! Viggo may be playing General Zod in the new Superman movie. Here's the scoop:

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder are zeroing in on an intriguing actor to play the villain: Viggo Mortensen. Mortensen, who is still in negotiations for Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, is said to be at the top of the list to play General Zod, the evil and super-powered scientist first introduced not in the comic books but in 1980's Superman II.
Interesting choice. If he gets it, I'm sure he will do really well.

Could the 'New' Lois Lane be a Woman of Color?

Interesting news! In a list of actresses for the Lois Lane role in the Superman reboot, 2 women of color have mentioned a lot. Kerry Washington and Rashida Jones.

The Week reports:
Now that it's official that the suitably chiseled Henry Cavill ("The Tudors") will play the lead in the upcoming film Superman: Man of Steel, commentators are debating the next big casting questions: Who will director Zack Snyder (Watchman) and producer Christopher Nolan (Inception) choose to play Superman's iconic love-interest Lois Lane? And does she necessarily have to be Caucasian?
Here is their listing:

5. Rashida Jones ("Parks & Recreation," The Social Network)
She's capable of blending "humor, intelligence and the kind of capable presence that can stand up alongside any would-be Man of Steel," says Arturo at Racialicious. And her casting just "feels right.… Because if you can have a British Superman, what makes a biracial Lois so unkosher by comparison?"
           6. Kerry Washington (For Colored Girls, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer)While "I love the idea of a woman of color playing Lois Lane," I'm not sure Rashida Jones has "strong enough presence to anchor a big, presumably dark action film," says Nina Shen Rastogia at Slate. Instead, I'd love to see the formidable Kerry Washington in the role. "Great Krypton!"
These two are really good actresses. Could this actually happen?

Is Matthew Goode the next Superman?

Rumors are spinning like Diana Prince when she changes into WW about this. Matthew Goode has been linked to the role of Supes.

Digital Spy reports:

Matthew Goode is rumored to be the frontrunner for the lead role in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot.

According to Movie Newz, the Cemetery Junction star is the favorite to portray the Man of Steel in the DC Comics adaptation.

Goode and Snyder have previously worked together on Watchmen, in which the actor played Adrian Veidt and his alter ego Ozymandias.
Not a bad choice, but what do you think?

Casting for Superman starts Now

With Batman and Green Lantern on the way, casting for Superman kicks off.

Deadline reports the hot news
Warner Bros, producer Chris Nolan, and director Zack Snyder have begun to cast a "wide net" to find the next Man of Steel. Insiders tell us the studio is open to creating a star as it reboots the Superman franchise: specifically, that the actor will either be a discovery or on TV but likely someone who isn't well known yet.
And he'll be in the age range of 28-to-32. The studio expects to look at hundreds of young actors before making a decision. Agents who are readying candidates note that hiring an established series regular might not even be possible. The film will likely begin production around next June, and that shooting schedule could wreak havoc with fall prime time schedules.
Their age range is a tad bit older one when Christopher and Brandon were cast... But Brandon still has a chance.

Hot Rumor! Jon Hamm as Superman?

Rumors are flying about Mad Men's Jon Hamm donning the cape and tights in the new Superman flick.

Here's more from TMT:

With plans set for a December 2012 release, we've heard different names out in the open ranging from Chuck star Zachary Levi in the "Rumor Mill" department to True Blood actor Joe Manganiello publicly campaigning for the role. But who do the studios (in this case, Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures) have their eye on for mild-mannered Clark Kent and his red-and-blue suit wearing alter ego, or is it the other way around?

Sources tell TMT one such actor being "seriously considered" is Mad Men

star Jon Hamm.

At thirty-nine (He'd be past forty when The Man of Steel opens), he's certainly older than who's regularly looked at for these franchises. Then again, look at Robert Downey Jr. He's starring in the Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes films (and then there's Avengers) and he's a few years older. Not to mention, Hamm happens to have been a fan-favorite for Kal-El for years now. Something that was suggested to him directly by Music Television and it wasn't like he immediately dismissed the notion.

I doubt this is real, but if they are looking for Kal-El, please reconsider Brandon Routh.
