Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige join NBC's The Wiz
The NBC live version of The Wiz has added some superstar power to their ranks!
Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige are the latest stars to join the musical. Queen Latifah will play the The Wiz, and Mary J. Blige will be the Wicked Witch of the West. I think these ladies are going to kill it in these roles. Queen Latifah knows how to work the stage and Mary can really show out.
So, thumbs up on this casting!

Director Dee Rees and Queen Latifah plan to bring Bessie Smith's story to HBO
Dee Rees, director and writer of the awesome film, Pariah is bringingthe story of Bessie Smith (also known as the "Empress of the Blues") to HBO. Queen Latifah will star in the main role.
HBO, The Zanuck Company, Shelby Stone Productions and Queen's Flavor Unit Entertainment are backers of the project and production starts this summer.
Shadow and Act gives a bit of history on Bessie:
Bessie Smith began her professional career in 1912 by singing in the same show as Ma Rainey, and subsequently performed in various touring minstrel shows and cabarets. By the 1920s, she was a leading artist in black shows. After further tours she was sought out by Clarence Williams to record in New York. Her first recording, Down-Hearted Blues, established her as the most successful black performing artist of her time. She recorded regularly until 1928 with important early jazz instrumentalists such as Williams, James P. Johnson, and various members of Fletcher Henderson's band, including Louis Armstrong, Charlie Green, Joe Smith, and Tommy Ladnier.
In 1929, she appeared in the film St. Louis Blues. By then, however, alcoholism is said to have ruined her career, as did the Great Depression, which affected the recording and entertainment industries as a whole.
By 1936, Smith was again performing in shows and clubs, but she died, following an automobile accident, before her next recording session had been arranged.
She made almost 200 recordings, including remarkable duets with Armstrong. She also recorded vigorous versions of jazz standards.
Dee's work in Pariah was phenomenal, I'm sure this film will be amazing.

Queen Latifah on The Grammy Wedding
“I look forward to the day when presiding over a historic wedding ceremony like this is just the norm. To me, it was special to all the couples we married today and I look forward to dashing off to go sign their marriage certificates. It’s awesome. I had to get sworn in as a commissioner for the state of California, so I’m not an ordained minister like I said, but I’m a commissioner. So you can call me to commish – Queen Commish!”

The Grammys will Feature On-Air Weddings of 34 Couples (Including Same-Sex Couples)
Tonight at the Grammy Awards, Queen Latifah will officiate the weddings of 34 couples, which features same sex couples. This event will happen during the performance of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' hit Same Love, and I think Madonna joins them too.
Imagine how the haters are going feel about this? And will the Queen join them?
Looking to this historical moment

It's Official, Queen Latifah didn't Come Out
Weeks ago, folks thought the Queen came out at Long Beach Pride, however that was not the case. The Queen told EW that she didn't reveal a thing.
The Advocate reports
“That definitely wasn’t the case," she says. "I’ve never dealt with the question of my personal life in public. It’s just not gonna happen.”Maybe in another 4 years?
"To me, doing a gay pride show is one of the most fun things,” she says. “My first show that paid more than $10,000 was in a gay club on New Year’s Eve in San Francisco. Tupac happened to be in town, so he came to kick it with me. This was the early ’90s. And the boys were like, ‘Take your shirt off, Tupac!’ He wasn’t doing that. But we had a blast in there.”
The singer-actress also acknowledges the reciprocal love between her and her LGBT fan base. “I know that the most important thing and the only thing I have to give is love," she says. "When people are going through hatred and bullying, the biggest thing to fight that is love. So that’s all I encouraged my audience to do that night: to share their light and share their love. Period.”

Queen Latifah was proud to be around "Her People" at Long Beach Pride
The Queen held it down at the Long Beach Pride this past weekend. She rocked the crowd and had something to say to her fans.
According to EUR web, Queen Latifah said she happy to be in the presence of “her people,” and “I've been waiting to do this for a long time.”
Also NoMoreDownLow was there to get the story: Now, I'm sure the gossip blogs will screw this up, but if she coming out we will be there to support her.
