This is the 30th anniversary of Jem

Today is the 30th anniversary of one of the greatest cartoons ever made! When I watched Jem and the Holograms, I was so excited as 11-year-old boy watching this show my sisters.

The cartoon had so much color, so much life to it. You can tell that Christy Marx (Show's creator) really wanted this series to be more than a story about dolls. I was totally mesmerized by the series. It just captured so many things I was feeling at the time: a confused preteen who was into fashion and music. Through this series, I was able to discover my passions art and writing. I have to say that Jem ignited my creative side to the utmost. I was designing clothes, writing short stories and songs, and learning to except my true self.

I know people may think my love for a 'girly cartoon' is crazy, but this series really created who I am and so many ways. I cherish Jem and will always 'stan' for it.  I feel very fortunate that I got to experience the original phenomenon that is Jem and the Holograms.

Thank you for 30 years of Glamour and Glitter, Fashion and Fame.

The new JEM comic book reveals the Updated Misfits

The JEM comic book has gotten fans so excited!

And now, we have the first look at The Misfits, with a twist... Jetta's Black!

This is not a stunt, the original Jetta was supposed to be Black, but it was a huge no-no to make a person of color a villain, so Jetta was made white and British. Interesting to say the least. However, this new look is really hot! I love it!

The comic book comes out next year and I can't wait!!

Classic Jem

UPDATE

THR reports big changes to the Jem mythos:

According to the producers, Jem is being reimagined "for a whole new generation with themes of being true to who you are in a multitasking, hyperlinked social media age." Ryan Landels wrote the script, which, per the producers, centers on an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt -- one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.

Special Edition JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Doll to be available at Comic Con

I'm SO EXCITED about this! A company called, Integrity Toys has stuck a deal with Hasbro to release a special line of JEM dolls!

The first release will be Hollywood Jem and it will be available at Comic Con, so you already know, I'm getting one!

Here's some of  the press release:

Integrity Toys, Inc., under license from Hasbro, Inc., today announced a brand-new series of high-end collectible fashion dolls based on the 1980's ground breaking animated series JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, launching at 2012 Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Inspired by the "TRULY OUTRAGEOUS" characters created by Hasbro over two decades ago and cherished by fans and collectors alike ever since, this nostalgic retro doll line is designed to pay homage to both the animated series and its original companion doll line, originally marketed from 1985 to 1987. Created for fans by fans of the rock 'n shock pink haired pop-culture icon and her outrageous world, this classic commemorative line will feature the high-end details, quality accessories and ultra-limited edition sizes that fans of Integrity Toys have come to appreciate through the years.

This first doll in this exciting commemorative collection will be JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Special Edition Doll: HOLLYWOOD JEM, one of the most requested animated-based looks. This doll will be available for purchase at the HasbroToyShop booth #3329 during Comic-Con International in San Diego at an approximate retail price of $125 and following the convention, at WWW.HasbroToyShop.com.

I can't wait to see what else they have in store. The Stingers, Jacqui Benton, Regine Craig Phillips! Again, I'm so excited!

I'm sooo queening out right now!

Interesting Quote: Samantha Newark (the Voice of Jem)

She's probably still be singing, performing and writing music. And maybe not taking care of the Starlight Kids, 'cause they would be gone. Maybe she would be a mother and married, and have kids of their own.

And the Misfits?

Totally, or on Doctor Drew's Rehab. Or Pizzazz [could be] on an episode of Cops. I hope that they've grown up and realized that you get more flies with honey than you do with Vinegar. Hopefully they learned that, along the way.

Samantha's answers the question about Jem being around today.
