Fashion and Travel Expenses Amok

Sarah Palin is living it up running for VP. For her look, she shops at Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York, the tab: $49,425.74.

A big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis: $75,062.63.

For hair and make-up: $4,716.49.

And now, her travel expenses are put on blast.

The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.

In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.

Alaska law does not specifically address expenses for a governor's children. The law allows for payment of expenses for anyone conducting official state business.

As governor, Palin justified having the state pay for the travel of her daughters - Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7 - by noting on travel forms that the girls had been invited to attend or participate in events on the governor's schedule.

But some organizers of these events said they were surprised when the Palin children showed up uninvited, or said they agreed to a request by the governor to allow the children to attend.

Several other organizers said the children merely accompanied their mother and did not participate. The trips enabled Palin, whose main state office is in the capital of Juneau, to spend more time with her children.

The timing of this isn't cute. Palin Power isn't looking so hot right now.

I don't know what to think about this one, but it's working for a lot of people.

inSpot.org an e-card machine that gives folks the ability to tell others about their STIs. 50,000 e-cards have been sent through a free Web site since 2004 and more people are using their services. For example:

At Magnet, a gay men's health center in San Francisco, some of the men send the inSPOT e-cards using the computers there after learning they have an STD, said Steve Gibson, the center's director.

"Whether it's using inSPOT or an online chat room, it's a useful tool, because sometimes it's the only way they know to reach them," Gibson said.

"We don't have a lot of people expressing reluctance sending or receiving the e-mails," he said. "Maybe San Francisco guys are wired and connected, getting e-mails, Twitters and texts. Maybe we're permeated with enough technology. There's not a bias or reluctance against it."

But really, would you want to know about a STI in an e-card or in person.

I guess knowing is half the battle.

Apology is NOT accepted

Moose Mess apologized for her Pro-American statement. I guess she realized the foolishness it caused in the campaign. Also it continued the belief of 2 Americas: the smart ones and the ones we need to ship over the Phantom Zone. (well that's my belief)

However, she said "I don't want that misunderstood. If that's the way it came across, I apologize."

That's all fine and dandy, but I would've hoped she taught about that a while ago. Celebrating ignorance is not American, in fact, it un-American. Our country is riddled with foolish people who don't need assurance that their behavior is okay.

We should hold them accountable and convince them to be better people. Remember a smarter and critical America is the best America.
