Question of the Day

What is your first reaction to someone who apologizes for using gay slurs?

Do you forgive them right away? Or are you hesitant about it?

Isaiah Washington on the fallout with Grey’s Anatomy costar T.R. Knight over Gay Slur

Isaiah Washington spoke with BET’s Clay Cane about the slur heard around the world. About six years ago Isaiah allegedly called Grey’s Anatomy costar T.R. Knight the F-word.

This is what he had to say about that:
At the time, of course. Who wouldn’t? I was just trying to tell the truth, but it was incredibly hard to try and stand up for myself and for my team to get the record straight. At the time, I was the largest African-American in the public eye. I was on the most successful show in America at the time. It wasn’t hard to latch the story on me and have it go viral around the world. What was hard was that the story was never accurate. It wasn’t right. Some people used the platform to spread their own agenda. Those people didn’t get what they wanted in the end. Perez Hilton said the F-word to Will.I.Am and got hit in the face. He then went beyond the call of duty to apologize to me [for his condemnation].
And
There’s no record of using the F-word or anything negative about me in the news for the last six years. I didn’t turn out to be this homophobic train wreck or whatever the agenda was at the time to make me. I am pretty much the same person for trying to get this thing called humanity at the forefront, you know? We have to be healing ourselves. So that’s pretty much what I have to say on that.
Well... Alright then

A Man Convicted in the Murder of Marcellus Andrews

A man was finally convicted for the murder of 19-year-old Marcellus Andrews. Marcellus was beaten to death while being taunted by gay slurs in August.

Here is the latest news:

A Black Hawk County jury has convicted a man of voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of a college student in Waterloo.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier  says the jury returned the verdict Friday afternoon in the case against 20-year-old Paris Anding. He was charged in the August beating death of 19-year-old Marcellus Andrews during a fight.
Prosecutors say Anding swung a baseball bat and hit Andrews in the head. The defense claimed Anding was protecting his aunt.
Andrews’ death drew nationwide attention from gay rights activists after witnesses were quoted in local media saying Andrews was taunted with anti-gay slurs. Waterloo police said there was no indication of a hate crime. Andrews’ family and friends downplayed the idea and said he wasn’t gay.
Voluntary manslaughter has a max of 10 years, and there is no minimum. I hope this helps the Andrews family. Paris should pay for this horrible crime.

WATCH: Brett Ratner say “Rehearsal's for fags.” UPDATE He's OUT of the Oscars!

UPDATE!
Because of his foolishness, Brett has been kicked to the curb.
Director Brett Ratner is out as Oscar producer, a source close to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tells The Hollywood Reporter. The source says a decision has been made and the Academy will make an announcement shortly.

Calls to the Academy were not returned.

Ratner had been named as the producer of the 2012 Academy Awards show, but he has been under fire for making a series of ill-judged remarks in recent days, including saying "rehearsal is for fags" and discussing his sex life with Howard Stern.

You can start at the 2:40 mark

That didn't set well folks, so he released this apology:
“I apologize for any offense my remarks caused. It was a dumb way of expressing myself. Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t have a prejudiced bone in my body. But as a storyteller I should have been much more thoughtful about the power of language and my choice of words.”
This could hurt him as the producer of this year’s Oscars. Only time will tell.

Teacher Cleared of Wrongdoing in the Anti-Gay Facebook Posting Incident

Jim Whitney was cleared of any wrongdoing on the hateful post on Facebook. Jim claims his account was hacked:

Joplin Superintendent Doctor CJ Huff tells News Talk KZRG complaints were made about things high school math teacher Jim Whitney allegedly posted on Facebook. But apparently Whitney's Facebook account was hacked.
"It's unfortunate when you're dealing with social media and dealing with technology and the potential for people to get on to other people's accounts and say things that shouldn't be said."
Huff says the Joplin School Board was made aware of the situation at Tuesday's board meeting and no action was taken.
Hmm, interesting... I wonder if this is true or not. What do you think?

Diddy Goes off on Someone, Calls them a Faggot VIDEO

Diddy at his finest

AND

BGA has the scoop
A video has circulated showing Diddy going off on either a patron at the party (some have even said it was TI but it is hard to tell that from the video). Anyway, apparently Diddy doesn’t like it when he is throwing a party for Ciroc and no one is drinking that drank. So, in true fashion, Diddy jumps up their in his multi-colored jacket and lets it be known how upset he is.

Of course, it is hard to tell with the music and his being under the influence but it appears that during one point of Diddy’s “Bad Boy” dialogue he calls whoever offended him a light-skinned f****t.
Diddy later apologized on Twitter for losing it, but hasn't mentioned the use of the word 'faggot'.

The HRC lashes out on Chris Brown for his Gay Slur

Let's be honest, Chris Brown SUX! And in his latest act of foolishness, Chris used a gay slur when talking about N**GAS. See here

Classic, Chris.

Now, the HRC has responded to this mess:
A rep for the HRC tells us, "Invoking words meant to demean gay Americans is just plain unacceptable. Chris Brown should know better."

The rep adds, "He irresponsibly neglected to recognize the impact of his words and the unacceptable message that it sends to couple the word gay with negative actions."
So far, there's no response from Chris' team.

Rapper Tyler overflows in Gay Slurs in Tweets

The rapper Tyler is all the rave in biz, but after I saw this post from JMG, I was a bit stunned. So, I looked at more of his tweets and found a few more 'wonderful' ones

This is unacceptable, point blank. I really don't get this "Look at me, I'm a man/rapper/Ho Master" mindset. This is not the 80s or the 90s anymore. There's no need for this stance from any rapper in this day and age, so why do it.

The constant use of these slurs send strong messages that still hurts and even kill. With everything that has happened with the suicides and bullying, everyone should know better. These words still dig deep. So to all of 188,000+ Twitter followers, y'all should call him out about this. Let him know this unacceptable. And to LGBT activists and bloggers, please post something about these tweets. He's getting all of this praise from the media, hopefully one of them will catch on and hold him accountable.

Kobe Bryant said the F-word, but didn't mean to offend anyone

Kobe, Kobe, Kobe... Here below is a clip of Kobe Bryant called the ref a "f**king fag" at last night game.

HRC jumped on it fast with this statement:
"Hopefully Mr. Bryant will recognize that as a person with such fame and influence, the use of such language not only offends millions of LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender] people around the world, but also perpetuates a culture of discrimination and hate that all of us, most notably Mr. Bryant, should be working to eradicate."
Well, (with the help of GLAAD) Kobe apologizes, released this statement:
"What I said last night should not be taken literally. My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period," Bryant said in a statement issued through the Lakers. "The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone."
Kobe, you should apologize on live TV. Your fans, kids and everyone else needs to SEE and HEAR you say you're sorry. Regardless of your anger, you could have done more harm than you know. So, I hope you think about this and possibly do something more than release a statement.

Justin Alesna was "Gay Bashed" in a Gas Station, Witnesses Did Nothing to Help him

Justin was attacked by a man he did not know. He insulted him with gay slurs and severely beat him in the store. The sad and ridiculous part was the witnesses, they did nothing but gawk and laugh.

The dilemma with, "The Dilemma"

Watch this trailer

After this aired a few weeks ago, Anderson Cooper wasn't really feeling it:
The issue first surfaced earlier this week on Anderson Cooper's CNN show "Anderson Cooper 360," which has been conducting a week-long series on bullying, following a series of suicides by gay teens.

On Monday night's broadcast, Cooper mentioned that he was surprised to see the word "gay" used for a gratuitous laugh line in the trailer, and CNN legal correspondent Jeffrey Toobin seconded that opinion.

During a subsequent appearance on "Ellen," Cooper singled out the film again, saying, ""I was sitting in a movie theater over the weekend and there was a preview of a movie, and in it, the actor said, 'that's so gay," and I was shocked that not only that they put it in the movie, but that they put that in the preview. They thought that it was okay to put that in a preview for the movie to get people to go and see it."
Once the news hit, Universal decided to change the trailer:

Universal is pulling the current trailer for "The Dilemma," starring Vince Vaughn, amid an outcry over its use of the word "gay" as a pejorative.

The studio said Friday morning that it will replace the trailer by the end of the day. "The teaser trailer for 'The Dilemma' was not intended to cause anyone discomfort. In light of growing claims that the introduction to the trailer is insensitive, it is being replaced. A full trailer, which has been in the works for some time, will post online later today," the studio said.

No word if they will remove the scene from the movie.

Interesting Quote: Larry Johnson Sr.

“That’s just not who we are and not what we believe. It’s not how he was raised.”

He is embarrassed and disappointed in his son, Larry Johnson, for shouting out gay slurs to reporters.

He plays for the Kansas City Chiefs and they have suspended him for that foolishness.
