Henry Cavill is Superman

The Man of Steel is cast. Henry will be Kal-El, the last son of Krypton.
Best known for his role as Charles Brandon on Showtime's "The Tudors," Cavill, 27, will take on the iconic role in director Zach Snyder's film, which is expected to hit theaters in December 2012.
In a statement, Cavill expressed his delight at being cast in the role, which was previously held by the late Christopher Reeve in four feature films in the 1970s and 1980s and Brandon Routh in Bryan Singer's 2006 film "Superman Returns."

"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen," Cavill said.

New Casting Info for True Blood Season 4

I got some TB news for this morning. Here are the first wave of new cast members for the next season:

* Marnie is a Z-list palm reader who’s painfully aware of what a joke she is — that is, until she comes to be possessed by the spirit of a real witch. Anybody else thinking said sorceress might turn out to be the Hallow character Alan Ball told me about back in August?
* Andy’s sister, Portia, is as easy on the eyes as she is sharp in the courtroom. And, since I hear possible portrayers have to be cool with nude scenes, we’re gonna get an eyeful.

* Naomi is an Asian-American cage fighter who, outside of the ring…er, cage…is hot-’n'-heavy with one of her female competitors. My hunch is that, driven away by brother Sam, Tommy starts putting up his dukes for money instead of his paws.
* Queen Mab is an elegant beauty who presides over a fantasy land that sounds a lot like the fairy domain into which Sookie (Anna Paquin) keeps being pulled. But, ethereal as her highness may be, she’s also got a temper…
* Suzanne McKittrick is a Real Housewives type who throws a hootenanny to bond with “her kind.” That “kind,” I’m thinking, being shapeshifters like buttoned-down African-American (and fellow newbie) Emory Broome.

More to come.

First Look: The Cast of Dorothy of Oz

Thanks to SlashFilms.com, I have the character sketches and cast of the new animated film Dorothy of Oz.

This is one of a million "Oz" project coming out in the next couple of years (can you say over-saturation).
Here's some info on the film:
There is trouble in Oz and Dorothy is needed! With Glinda’s help, she and Toto return to Oz. Joined by her old friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Lion as well as exciting new characters, Dorothy sets out on a perilous journey to stop the crafty Jester from using the power of the Wicked Witch of the West’s wand to turn the people of Oz into puppets. That seems to be the least of Dorothy’s problems as her travels lead her straight into a treacherous maze, a cave full of very hungry dragons and an evil spell that could destroy the Yellow Brick Road. Dorothy has the daunting knowledge that it is up to her to stop Jester’s terrible plan. Audiences will welcome the return of the old Oz favorites and will love meeting new friends like Tugg a gruff talking boat and Wiser an owl with an unlucky attraction to molasses.

Meet The Beast AND Magneto in X-Men: First Class movie

Another X-Men casting.

Benjamin Walker will play The Beast in the next X-Film.
Showbiz411
has the scoop:
He’s going to play Beast, the character played in “X Men 3″ by Kelsey Grammer. He’ll be joining the already cast James McAvoy and possibly Michael Fassbender.

Walker, like Grammer a Juilliard grad, is the hottest newcomer in New York theater this season. Until now, Andrew Jackson alsways was in the shadow of Abraham Lincoln. Walker made him hot.

Walker is so hot that the “X Men” role is turning out be an actual, uh, Beast. He still has a few more performances left at the Public. Then the not for profit theater is making plans to transfer to Broadway this fall. But Walker won’t be done with “X Men” until the end of the year. The question is, Will the Public wait for him? The answer is, Most likely, since Walker makes Andrew Jackson. Changing actors would do the play and the audience a disservice.

Here's a clip of Benjamin's work

Interesting.

UPDATE Magneto has been cast! Michael Fassbender will play Mags:
The villainous mutant leader Magneto may have proved more irresistible than the villain in the relaunched Spider-Man movie.

Michael Fassbender, who was being courted for both roles from Fox and Columbia, respectively, has entered early negotiations to play Magneto in "X-Men: First Class," which Matthew Vaughn is directing.

The studio is in full-blown casting mode for the movie, which is gearing up for an August start in London, and Fassbender's name, and his double choice, surfaced last week. The studio has been testing and reading actors such as Aaron Johnson and Andrew Garfield to join James McAvoy, who is playing Professor Xavier in the movie, which focuses on the superpowered team X-Men in a younger incarnation than the previous trilogy.

Scream 4 Cast Update

At first, I wasn't excited about the Scream 4 movie. But things are changing a bit, maybe this will be a great flick.

And with this piece of info, I'm starting to feel it a little. HorrorBid revealed the new members of the cast and the roles they will play.

* Lake Bell: will play Duputy Judy Hicks, a police officer who knew Sidney (Campbell) from high school. The casting call described the character as follows: “A police officer, decidedly sexy but a bit off, she knew Sidney from high school. Didn’t make a big enough impression for Sidney to remember her. Likes her boss, Dewey, perhaps a little too much.

* Emma Roberts: will play Jill Kessler, “one of the film’s primary heroines,” a cousin to Neve Campbell’s character in the series. Described as “pretty in an ingenue way. Smart, strong. A little goofy, but she makes it sexy. Full of contradictions, but instantly likeable. Not a mean bone in her body. They’re not close, but Jill is Sidney’s cousin.

* Hayden Panettiere: will play Jill’s best friend, Kirby Reed — a nerdy film geek. Described as “Cute and quirky, was a tomboy until a year ago, now she’s alternative, cool and sexy. Jill’s best friend. She’s a pop culture and horror aficionado.

* Rory Culkin: will play Charlie Walker, a potential love interest for Jill. Here is the character description: “Messy cute. Friends with Jill, Trevor, Kirby, and Olivia. A little cocky, he likens himself to ‘Randy’ from Scream 1 without the nerd part. No such luck, he’s definitely a nerd. May or may not have a crush on Jill. He’d never admit it if he does.

Colin Farrell and Toni Collette joins Fright Night

Okay, maybe there's some hope for this remake.

Colin Farrell and Toni Collette will join the cast! Colin will be the evil and hot vampire, Jerry Dandrige. Toni will be Charlie's mom.

The two join Anton Yelchin in DreamWorks' new version, which sticks to the original concept of a teen (Yelchin) being convinced that his new neighbor is a vampire, though no one will believe him.

Farrell has the plum role of the vampire, named Jerry, who on the surface appears to be a cool guy but is really preying on the neighborhood. Chris Sarandon originated the role.

Collette is Yelchin's mom, who at first disapproves of the new arrival but changes her attitude when she meets the magnetic man and -- surprise -- doesn't believe her son when he tries to tell her Jerry is a vampire. Craig Gillespie is directing.

Things are looking good for this flick. However, they have to get Stephen Geoffreys to make a cameo in the movie.

The Interesting Case behind the The Last Airbender Casting

Over a year ago, I talked about The Last Airbender whitewash scandal.

Quick reminder, Airbender is a multicultural cartoon with Asian & Inuit lead characters that is now a feature film. However, the folks who were being considered for the roles were white.Well, this started a geek storm against the movie, M. Night Shyamalan and the producer, Frank Marshall.

So after a devoted group of fans investigated, protested, started a website and later exposed the casting sheet (notice the WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR part)...

Frank Marshall responded:
Marshall further writes that he “agree[s] that this casting notice was poorly worded and offensive. However, it was not written nor distributed by the production, or the studio, but by a local extra casting entity that did not consult with either. "Ultimately, we all take responsibility for not doing a more thorough job monitoring these frequently used third-party agents and Paramount has since been in regular dialogue with Asian American advocacy groups including the Japanese American Citizens League and the Media Action Network for Asian Americans to ensure that such a mistake does not happen in the future.”
It should not have happened at all. M. Night shoud have caught this and Frank should've said something as well.

But anywho, there's more to this story here

Charley Brewster has been cast in the Fright Night remake

Charley Brewster, our favorite teen (male) vampire slayer has been cast in the classic remake.

Anton Yelchin, from Star Trek, will play our oddly hero.
I think it's a good choice.

New True Blood Casting News

New folks for the 3rd season of TB!
  1. Emmy-winner Alfre Woodard - who appeared for an extended run on Desperate Housewives during the 2005-06 season - has landed the role of Lafayette's mother. This also means she's Tara's aunt, of course.
  2. Speaking of Tara, her third season love interest has been cast: James Frain will portray the vampire Franklin Mott, a character from the book series that acted as Tara's sugar daddy. HBO casting notices describe Mott as "handsome" and as someone with an “immediate and torrid” connection to Tara.

My Jem Movie Casting: Jacqui Benton

Jacqui Benton, the mother of Jerrica and Kimber should be played by Deborah Gibson.

I just think it would be a great match and most of us still love our Debbie.
