NBC will no longer be the home of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, which Trump produces, and Trump has already stepped down from running his reality show The Apprentice to run for president. “At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” the network said in a statement, NBC News reports. “Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.”

During his presidential announcement speech earlier this month, Trump called the U.S. “a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems” while speaking about immigration. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

A representative for Trump did not immediately respond to TIME’s request for comment.

I'm glad NBC stood their ground. They didn't lose anything, but they've gain a lot respect for this.

NBC cast the original Broadway Dorothy, STEPHANIE MILLS, as Auntie Em in The Wiz!

This is some good news.

So, you might have heard that The Wiz is NBC's next televised musical. I'm going to be watching and I hope some you will be as well, especially since NBC has cast the original Broadway Dorothy, STEPHANIE MILLS, as Auntie Em! The production will air on December 3, with plans to bring it to the Broadway in the 2016-17 season.

I'm in gay heaven right now.

The next NBC Live Music Event could be The Wiz

This could be good or a hot ass mess.

NBC’s entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt has optioned the rights for Music Man and The Wiz, but let's focus on The Wiz. The network could score huge ratings with The Wiz, if done right. I could see this working out if the cast is tight and the set is very creative.

Hopefully, they will choose The Wiz. It would check off the diversity box and NBC needs the diverse viewership. So, they should go with The Wiz.

Heroes Return to NBC

NBC's Heroes is returning for a limited run in 2015, called Heroes Reborn.

The series will run for 13 episodes, with a few webisodes to introduce the characters


Here's the press release:

An iconic series that still commands a rabid fan base, "Heroes" will return to the network in 2015 as an event miniseries with original creator and executive producer Tim Kring at the helm, it was announced today by NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke.

NBC has ordered 13 episodes for a new stand-alone story arc entitled "Heroes Reborn," with all details of storylines and characters being kept under wraps.

"The enormous impact 'Heroes' had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening," said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke. "Shows with that kind of resonance don't come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We're thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won't rule out the possibility of some of the show's original cast members popping back in."

The original series chronicled the life-changing stories of a series of unrelated ordinary people who discovered they had superhuman abilities. As the saga unfolded, they learned they were part of a grand plan that brought them together to change the world.

With the return of "Heroes Reborn," NBC will launch a digital series prior to the 2015 premiere that will introduce the characters and new storylines. This leveraging of social media is a way for fans to re-engage with what was one for the true pioneers in multiplatform storytelling.

Bob Costas on 'Vladimir Putin’s Games’

The Sochi games have gone much better than many feared and predicted. So far security has held fast, venues have been praised, athletes and spectators have almost unanimously cited the warmth and hospitality of their hosts. All of which is truly wonderful but should not serve to obscure a larger and more lasting truth.

While in many significant ways, Russian citizens have better lives than Soviet citizens of a generation ago, there’s is still a government which imprisons dissidents, is hostile to gay rights, sponsors and supports a vicious regime in Syria - and that’s just a partial list.

The Sochi games are Vladimir Putin's games, from their inception to their conclusion, and all points in between. And if they are successful on their own terms, as appears to be the case, then at least in some corners it will help to burnish the image of a regime with which much of the world takes significant issue. No amount of Olympic glory can mask those realities any more than a biathlon gold medal, though hard-earned and deeply satisfying as it is, can put out the fires in Kiev.

Foolishness Alert: Johnny Weir is an Evil Foreign Agent from Mother Russia!

I read this article on AmericaBlog about Johnny Weir and basically, it's interesting.

Here's a piece of it:

NBC Sports recently hired former professional figure skater Johnny Weir to provide commentary on the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, without disclosing that Weir claims to be an agent of the very country he’s covering for NBC – Russia.

Johnny Weir’s bio says he “works” with the Russian consulate in NYC

Journalist Andy Humm recently discovered Weir’s, and NBC’s, apparent conflict of interest while reviewing Weir’s bio (which has suddenly been removed post-publication of this story) at Premiere Speakers Bureau. Weir’s bio reads in part:

Due to his ability to understand global art and culture and his sporting expertise, Weir has recently begun working as a Goodwill Sports Ambassador to Japan and also works with the Russian Children’s Welfare Society and Russian Consulate in New York City.

Funny, because AmericaBlog claims that Johnny works for the Russian Consulate, even though both bios says he worked WITH, not FOR them.

Then they took it down. Possibly, after hearing how this page branded Johnny as a RUSSIA DOUBLE AGENT.  No, actually, they recognized it as a typo and took it down. However, if anyone bothered to check out JW's website, you will see what he actually does with Russian Consulate:

Russian Children’s Welfare Society. In collaboration with the General Consulate of the Russian Federation in New York, RCWS hosted its annual Benefit Gala in September 2010 in New York City, with Johnny among the celebrity guests in attendance to support the charity. Proceeds from the event were used to purchase sports equipment for orphanages in Russia as well as to support other RCWS efforts.

Go here, to see the gala he was involved with. Now, many folks jumped to conclusions and called Johnny all types of names. But the sad part is, they did it without knowing everything or the truth. As some folks know AmericaBlog is good for race baiting and misinformation. However, this particular post was a prime example of assumption making and bad research.

Luckily, folks are questioning AmericaBlog's article and calling them out for this mess. But really, this type of foolishness is getting out of hand. I'm not a super fan of Johnny Weir, but if you going to come for him, use facts not fiction.

So, why did 'Smash' Fail?

As y'all know the train-wreck series, 'Smash' is dead. The 'Glee for Adults' just couldn't keep an audience and the story... We won't go there.

But one of the writers, Marc Shaiman, did on HuffPo:

Shaiman summed up what went wrong with "Smash": "A lot of smart, talented (and in some cases, smart AND talented!) people were brought together to create a television show," Shaiman wrote. "Probably too many people. Yes, 'too many chefs' is the most succinct way to say what went wrong. But there was not a single soul working on the show who didn't want it to be great. Everyone just had a different idea of what that was."

 And

Shaiman said there was a lot of micro-managing behind the scenes of the series that led to changing of songs. "I suppose the greatest frustration Scott and I felt were how the actual moments in Marilyn Monroe's life that led us to write our songs were almost never explained in the episodes, which was a shame for it would have enriched the storylines of Tom and Julia and made many of our choices clearer and maybe made our songs more meaningful," he wrote.

I tried to watch it, but it was like drinking Kool-Aid with too much sugar in it.

First Look at Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter in the New NBC Series

Mike will be Dr. Lecter in the new series Hannibal on NBC.

Producer Bryan Fuller states:

“It’s before he was incarcerated, so he’s more of a peacock. There is a cheery disposition to our Hannibal. He’s not being telegraphed as a villain. If the audience didn’t know who he was, they wouldn’t see him coming. What we have is Alfred Hitchcock’s principle of suspense — show the audience the bomb under the table and let them sweat when it’s going to go boom. So the audience knows who Hannibal is so we don’t have to overplay his villainy. We get to subvert his legacy and give the audience twists and turns.”

He looks scary and I love it.

A Black Woman is the New Head of Drama Development/Programming at NBC

This is interesting news from NBC! The head of their Drama development dept. is a woman... A Black woman! Her name is Pearlena Igbokwe and she has a rich history in the biz.  This doesn't happen everyday, especially at a major network.

More to come about this great news.

In her new role Igbokwe will oversee the development of all NBC dramas.

“Pearlena has forged an impressive track record over her successful career that has earned her the admiration of the creative community,” said Salke. “She will bring a unique perspective to development that will help us reach our goal of once again making NBC the home of some of the best and most respected dramas on television.”

Igbokwe comes to NBC from Showtime, where she worked closely with Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, for seven years.

“Pearlena is hands-down one of the best creative executives I’ve ever worked with and I’m thrilled she is coming to NBC,” said Greenblatt. “She will be instrumental in reinvigorating our drama slate and making the network a haven for the top creative people in our business.”

During her 20-year tenure at Showtime, Igbokwe was involved in developing the pilot and overseeing every season of “Dexter,” Showtime’s most popular hit ever. She also developed the pilot to the upcoming new Showtime series “Masters of Sex” starring Michael Sheen. She also supervised the Emmy Award-winning and critically-acclaimed original series “Nurse Jackie” and “The Big C,” as well as shepherded “Tracey Ullman’s State of the Union,” “Damon Wayans’ Underground,” Kirstie Alley’s “Fat Actress,” and the television adaptation of the hit feature film “Barbershop.” She was additionally instrumental in the five-season run of the hit Showtime series “Soul Food,” a two-time NAACP Image Award winner for Best Drama Series.

I was happy to make the pilot. I don’t know that I’m the best audience for this genre. It was tricky for me to step back and take a look at it and see if this was going to be the right take on this show. With this kind of audience, you have to get these things absolutely right; there’s no room for error. At the end of the day, I didn’t think we had done that.

Wonder Woman TV is a Bust… And I’m okay with that

Well, the news is out! NBC dropped Wonder Woman from it's fall lineup. But am I hurt? No, I'm actually fine with this. I was skeptical about it for awhile, but when I set down and re-read the 1987 relaunch of WW,  I realized that this WW pilot was all wrong.

The script, the actress, the concept and that blasted costume was not Wonder Woman. It was a cheap shot of getting back it on TV. It was a failed attempt to make money and it was written by a person who did not know who Diana was. David E. Kelley is a writer, but not a comic book person. He had no real love for her and it was clearly translated in the script.

The concept was stupid! Yes, I said it, STUPID! Let me count the ways.
Why would Diana own a business? Again, if he knew Diana's character he would know that Diana would spend more time fighting crime than trying to sell her own dolls.

Veronica Cale as a villain? Child Cheese. That was another bad choice. She wasn't a villain worthy of being seen. That was a joke.

Those multiple identities were crappy. She's an amazon, why would she cry at night for a normal life. SHE IS NOT A NORMAL PERSON! That's poor character development.

That costume was a bust!  Nuff said.

And Adrianne? She is a very pretty girl, but I didn't see Diana in her. Maybe Donna (Wonder Girl, Troia), but not Diana. Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif from Thor) would have been great, but she passed because of the script. It wasn't good enough for her. In fact, rumor has it that her rejection raised flags (Again, RUMOR).

She was killing folks for no reason... FAIL.

She cried like 3 times in the pilot... FAIL part 45.

How could she be a vigilante, but work with the cops?

Again, I'm fine with this being dead. Maybe the next go around will be better. So, R.I.P. NBC Wonder Woman.

Now I know WHY the Networks Passed on David E. Kelley's take of Wonder Woman

Okay, Okay, Okay! Now, you know how I LOVE Wonder Woman, y'all know! So after getting bits and pieces of this pilot script, I realized why the networks passed on it.

The concept SUX! This is an insult to the character and the icon. Who told David E. Kelley that this was okay?

Here's what did it for me.

• She doesn't need 3 identities. George Perez killed that mess in his reboot in 1987.
• Diana isn't some street fighter, she tackles global issues.
• Why is taking spinning classes and working out to Lady Gaga? Is this a joke?
• Diana is running a company called Themyscira industries? Why?
• As Diana Prince, she is "mousy". Hello? It's the 21st FRAKKING century!
• She doesn't wear the costume, she wears a spandex costume. Does this strikes a memory?

• The script is loaded with Sex and The City-ish stuff. Again Why?
• Her origin is almost forgetten.
• She rocks out in her car, plane and office like a teenaged girl.
• She has a underground team helping her solve crime. GTFOOH!

This is not Wonder Woman. This is 'Birds of Prey' or 'Power Girl'. It feels like David has no sense of Diana at all. He's trying to make her likable to the masses, but here's the thing... We already like her for who she is! Diana is a leader, ambassador, Amazon, fighter and optimist. That's who she is.

And I've noticed that none of the male superheroes had their origins completely ripped up. Maybe some slight changes here and there, but they stuck to the heart and soul of the character. This is a mockery of her!

I hope NBC makes him rewrite this script, because if this is how the series begins it will be canceled within the 1st season.

Great Hera!! NBC Orders the Wonder Woman Pilot!

WHAT? NBC? WONDER WOMAN?

I just got the news! NBC orders Wonder Woman!

Looks like Wonder Woman may be back on TV soon after all. It's been a turbulent month for the DC heroine, as Warner Bros brought their new David E. Kelley scripted version of the character to the networks, only to see them all pass. Now though, Deadline reports NBC has made a surprise move and ordered Wonder Woman as a pilot.

When Deadline reported the story on the networks passing, it was said that for NBC, it simply wasn't a consideration because the network was in such a state of flux and the project was too big for them to take on at the time. Now though, just a couple of weeks later, Comcast taking over NBC has been finalized and new president Robert Greenblatt is going forward with some big moves – with Wonder Woman a particularly notable one.

We now know David E. Kelley wasn't being overly optimistic when I spoke to him last week, in the wake of the networks initially passing on Wonder Woman, and he said, "Everybody is confident that we're gonna see it." 

What? Really? Okay? But I'm not feeling this retelling part:

"a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman -- aka Diana Prince -- is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life." 

Ooookay. I'm not down with that, but we will see how this goes. I'm really scared but excited!

NBC Kills Heroes! Part 2

There was hope that a Heroes mini-series or a TV movie that would tie up the loose (overly confused) storyline.

Well, that's all a no go. Heroes is officially Zombie Dead!

Don’t hold out for closure, Heroes fans: A key source on the canceled drama told EW that NBC is not moving forward with a movie that would wrap up the four-year series. After the Peacock announced the show’s cancellation last May, there was some talk about allowing creator Tim Kring to give fans one more chance to say goodbye to their favorite characters, but that’s as far as it went.

NBC would not comment Thursday.

Well, what I learned from Heroes is keep your stories on point, kill off unnecessary characters and do something totally different than Chris Claremont's 80s version of the X-Men.
