CBS Gives Series Commitment to a ‘Supergirl’ series

CBS wants Supergirl.

Following "Arrow" and "The Flash", scribes Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler are moving forward with a “Supergirl” series.

For you non-geeks, Supergirl is Superman's cousin. Her name is Kara Zor-El, who, 24, and ready to use her powers for good.

This is another one of DC Comics many TV projects. Supergirl joins Gotham, Arrow, The Flash, Constantine, iZombie and possibly, Teen Titans/Titans for TNT. I'm not too worried about this series, Greg is pretty good with telling decent stories, so this could be a hit.

New Poll shows 50% of Hispanics support Marriage Equality

Hispanics are more in step with a majority of Americans on the issue of same sex marriage. More Hispanics think same-sex marriage should be legal (50 percent) than not legal (44 percent). Fifty-four percent of non-Hispanics think it should be legal, compared to 39 percent who say it shouldn't be.

As is the case with the public overall, younger Hispanics are more likely than those who are older to support same-sex marriage.

No wonder why conservatives are scared

Who Asked For This: The 'Bewitched' Series Remake

Great Hera, Goddammit! Great Hera! Variety reports that CBS is developing a new version of 'Bewitched'. They have already ordered the script.

Here's the scoop:

It's no surprise that CBS would gravitate to a project with a pre-sold brand like "Bewitched," having scored one of the few hits of the 2010-11 season with "Hawaii Five-0," another TV reboot. Sony also is behind another remake getting buzz heading into the coming season, "Charlie's Angels," on ABC.

Is creativity and risk taking dead in Hollywood? Am I ready for this mess as a new career?

CBS News Poll: Folks likes the Gays

A CBS poll found that our 'approval' has gone up.

Here are some highlights:

Seventy-seven percent of Americans now say they know someone who is gay or lesbian, a new CBS News poll finds - an increase of 35 percentage points since 1992, when a majority of Americans said they did not.

More than six in ten Americans say they have a close friend, work colleague or relative who is gay or lesbian. Just 22 percent say they do not know anyone at all who falls into that category.

The increasing visibility of gay and lesbian Americans appears to have contributed toward more positive perceptions of homosexual relations. Forty-three percent of Americans currently see homosexual relations between consenting adults as "wrong" - a drop of 19 percentage points from a Gallup poll taken in 1978.

Eight-four percent of Americans under 30 know someone who is gay or lesbian. Older Americans are less likely to know someone who is gay or lesbian: Just 66 percent of those over 65 say they do.

Fifty-one percent of Americans believe people are born homosexual - an increase of eight points from 1993. Thirty-six percent say homosexuality is something people choose. Those who know someone who is gay or lesbian are more likely to believe sexuality is something people are born with.

More than half (53 percent) believe it is necessary to have laws that protect gays and lesbians from discrimination in hiring and promotion. Forty-three percent do not. Women are more likely than men to support such protections.

I wonder if Glee and RuPaul's Drag Race did anything to help?

The Janet Jackson breast flash incident will not die!

The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia had thrown out the FCC's $550,000 fine against CBS as arbitrary, only to have the U.S. Supreme Court kick it back down for review. The Supreme Court pointed to its ruling in a Fox Television-led challenge, when it said the FCC could threaten fines over the use of a single curse word on live TV.

The FCC argued Tuesday that CBS was duly warned that its 2004 halftime performers might add some shock value to the act. Jackson's choreographer had promised as much, FCC lawyer Jacob Lewis said. During the act, singer Justin Timberlake ripped off Jackson's bustier, exposing her breast for nine-sixteenths of a second.

"There were considerable alarm bells about deviating from the script," Lewis told the 3rd Circuit panel. "CBS had a duty to investigate."
