A Movie about Bisexual Boxer Emile Griffith coming Soon

In interesting Hollywood news, we may see a film about the bisexual boxer Emile Griffith. Griffith won world titles in two weight classes, but what he's known for is death of Benny “The Kid” Paret in the boxing ring during a live TV.

Director Lenny Abrahamson and producer Ed Guiney will explore the issues besetting Griffith's sexuality and boxing in this upcoming film, Deadline reports:
Abrahamson and Guiney’s Element Pictures have teamed with Film4 to option the Donald McRae book A Man’s World: The Double Life Of Emile Griffith. Numerous filmmakers chased the book, and while he has other projects percolating, Abrahamson intends to adapt it with a co-writer and direct the film as soon as possible. The book was published in the UK by Simon & Schuster. Abrahamson is in Los Angeles this week promoting Room, the dark drama that has gotten reviews as good as any awards-season film this fall and which A24 opens November 16 limited, and wide on November 25.

“It is so rich that it’s hard to know where to start,” Abrahamson told Deadline in confirming the deal. “As a character study, Griffith is incredibly compelling. There was a gentleness and innocence about him, and he never seemed conflicted about his sexuality; indeed he found joy in it. He inhabited two worlds — the underground gay scene in New York in the ’60s and the macho world of boxing. The societal stigma at that time was dreadful and created a crushing pressure on him.”

Did David S. Goyer get defensive over Constantine's Bisexuality?

So this happened

Afterwards, The Advocate talked to Whennerdsattack.com's Lindsey Cepak, the journalist who asked the question. She said:

"I will admit, I did get flustered. I know some of my facts were wrong, but I was not expecting to be accused of being a fake geek girl, and condescended to."

"It also infinitely frustrated me to hear him act like the '12 years' should somehow negate the fact that Constantine is a bisexual. Rictor and Shatterstar were not initially homosexual/pansexual/bisexual either, but that has not stopped them from becoming positive representation within Marvel comics."

"I doubt it would have mattered if I named the issue where he was first shown to be bisexual. Goyer has made up his mind, and there was little I was going to be able to do to get him to change his point of view."
 And on Goyer vague answers:
“I think he’s being super ambiguous. The actress we interviewed, who will be playing Zed, spoke on the tension that she will have with Constantine, implying it was unresolved sexual tension. So I think we can say that Constantine will eventually have a romantic/sexual relationship with Zed. As I said in the interview, I don’t think anyone was expecting to see Constantine getting out of bed with a man in the pilot. I just think it’s a cop out. I just don’t see why he can’t say openly, if he is going to have Constantine be bisexual or not. These half answers and ways of talking around the topic are frustrating, and I think are really disrespectful to the fans of the comics, and for the bisexual community.”
This is getting out of hand. Just make him bisexual!

NBC's Constantine may not be Bi?

Some of us know that John Constantine is magic wielding bi-sexual comic book character. But in the NBC series, the Bi part may be erased.

EW reports
When asked about this at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour Sunday, executive producer Daniel Cerone ran down the various editions of the character that have existed since the demon fighter was introduced in 1985 to suggest his sexuality is not a crucial aspect of the character (nearly all of the character’s relationships in the comics have been with women). “In those comic books, John Constantine aged in real time,” he said. “Within this tome of three decades [of comics] there might have been one or two issues where he’s seen getting out of bed with a man. So [maybe] 20 years from now? But there are no immediate plans.”
Umm, if they were smart, they will make him bi. It's a part of who he is, right? You can't make Wolverine American or Storm a non-African, so make John bi!

DC Comics’ Constantine pilot sold to NBC

Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics sold a new pilot to NBC yesterday.

The supernatural and bi-sexual detective John Constantine may be coming to our TV screens. It was written and executive produced by Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer.

The series will be called, Constantine, hopefully different than the movie version in the early 2000s. But I have to wonder, will clash with Grimm? They somewhat touch on the same subject matter.

And will Johnny be bi?

Interesting Quote: Cynthia Nixon

"My recent comments in The New York Times were about me and my personal story of being gay. I believe we all have different ways we came to the gay community and we can't and shouldn't be pigeon-holed into one cultural narrative which can be uninclusive and disempowering. However, to the extent that anyone wishes to interpret my words in a strictly legal context I would like to clarify:

"While I don't often use the word, the technically precise term for my orientation is bisexual. I believe bisexuality is not a choice, it is a fact. What I have 'chosen' is to be in a gay relationship.

"As I said in the Times and will say again here, I do, however, believe that most members of our community — as well as the majority of heterosexuals — cannot and do not choose the gender of the persons with whom they seek to have intimate relationships because, unlike me, they are only attracted to one sex.

"Our community is not a monolith, thank goodness, any more than America itself is. I look forward to and will continue to work toward the day when America recognizes all of us as full and equal citizens."
Cynthia is explaining in detail about her sexuality being a choice.

Paranormal State's Ryan Buell is Bisexual

Okay, I have a confession. I have always found Ryan Buell cute. Back in the day, he would be my college crush if we were in college together or maybe my bf in alternate world... Okay, anywho, back to the story at hand... He just revealed that he's bisexual.
EW has the stuff:
Ryan Buell, star of A&E’s docuseries Paranormal State, comes out as bisexual in his new book, Paranormal State: My Journey Into the Unknown. Buell, who identifies as a Roman Catholic, writes, “I’ve decided to share my sexuality and struggle over faith in hopes that others will no longer feel as though they are alone or that they can’t be religious.”

Ryan, you just made many geeky gay ghost hunters happy.

Interesting Quote: Jillian Michaels

“Let’s just say I believe in healthy love. If I fall in love with a woman, that’s awesome. If I fall in love with a man, that’s awesome. As long as you fall in love ... It’s like organic food. I only eat healthy food, and I only want healthy love!”
