Civil Rights Organizations are seeking a federal review of Texas Public School Education

Finally, folks are looking into the Texas Board of Education's foolishness. Earlier this year, Texas BoED decided to rewrite history in many textbooks. For example, forcing Christianity over other religions and leaving out important Hispanic leaders from Texas history.

Now, Two civil rights groups are seeking a federal review of public school education in Texas and accusing them of violating federal civil rights laws.
The request to the U.S. Department of Education made by the Texas NAACP and Texas League of United Latin American Citizens on Monday contended that the curriculum changes passed in May "were made with the intention to discriminate" and would have a "stigmatizing impact" on African-American and Latino students.

"The State of Texas is failing to provide many of its minority students with equal educational opportunities," documents sent to the federal department said.

The request, signed by Gary Bledsoe, president of the state NAACP, and Joey D. Cardenas Jr., state director of Texas LULAC, asked that implementation of the curriculum changes and new standardized tests be stopped for being racially or ethnically offensive or historically inaccurate.

Besides the curriculum complaint, they accused the state, the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Board of Education of "miseducation" of minority students, disparate discipline for minority students, using accountability standards to impose sanctions on schools with high numbers of minority students and rules leading to underrepresentation of minorities in gifted and talented school programs.
At this time that Board has no true comment.

Texas State Board of Education are filled with Idiots!

Texas State Board of Education managed to put in for foolishness in a bunch of social studies, history and economics lessons and books.

They want strong conservative ideals to be taught to millions of students for years to come.

This is what pure mess looks like, y'all. These folks want to screw up millions of kids for some idiotic standards that will NOT be recognized anywhere else in the frakking country.

Here are some the things they changed.
-Teachers in Texas will be required to cover the Judeo-Christian influences of the nation's Founding Fathers, but not highlight the philosophical rationale for the separation of church and state.

-Curriculum standards also will describe the U.S. government as a "constitutional republic," rather than "democratic," and students will be required to study the decline in value of the U.S. dollar, including the abandonment of the gold standard.

- The Board removed Thomas Jefferson from the Texas curriculum, "replacing him with religious right icon John Calvin."

-Conservatives beat back multiple attempts to include hip-hop as an example of a significant cultural movement.

-Numerous attempts to add the names or references to important Hispanics throughout history also were denied, inducing one amendment that would specify that Tejanos died at the Alamo alongside Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. Another amendment deleted a requirement that sociology students "explain how institutional racism is evident in American society."

- The Board refused to require that "students learn that the Constitution prevents the U.S. government from promoting one religion over all others."

Mess, sheer mess! Now, if I could, I would cut Texas off from all federal funding and benefits until this crap was erased. I can't believe the audacity of this Board! Where did they get their education from? Fashion Bug?

Y'all are f**king up your kids' future, TEXAS!!!

Idiots!!!

For the Record: No Segregation of Gay Troops

What is it with Gay bloggers f**king up info or rewriting stuff like Texas Board of Education? It's a hot ass mess, for realz.

The latest drama comes from you know who... John Aravosis.

Yesterday he posted this:
The Pentagon confirmed on Friday that it is considering segregating gay troops, specifically with regards to creating separate showers and/or barracks for straight and gay troops. Advocate reporter Kerry Eleveld just transcribed the following quote from Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell at Friday's briefing about the new "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" survey:
"We think it would be irresponsible to conduct a survey that didn’t try to address these types of things. Because when DADT is repealed, we will have to determine if there are any challenges in those particular areas, any adjustments that need to be made in terms of how we educate the force to handle those situations, or perhaps even facility adjustments that need to be made to deal with those scenarios."
Segregation, folks. Separate but equal. In the year 2010. And from a black president, no less. How do you feel about the segregation of blacks in the first half of the 1900s? Did you think it was disgusting that African-Americans weren't permitted to drink out of our fountains, swim in our pools, sit at the front of the bus, share the same bleachers at a game, as the rest of us? Then why is it okay to even talk about segregating gays and lesbians? What would have happened to an Obama administration spokesman who talked about segregating blacks?
He goes on and on, but pretty much he ran this info as fact. Now, most folks who knows John's style should know to triple check his info, because it could be inflated or overhyped.

Well, some folks didn't and once again, took this for fact and posted this mess on their blogs.

Later, Chris Geidner got the truth and put it out there:

By time John Aravosis got a hold of it this morning, here's how Megan's carefully couched claim -- that, from my review of my recording still overstates what Morrell said, which was that "facility adjustments" were a hypothetical possibility -- had been twisted:

Does the White House not understand that a black president cannot institute a policy of segregation? Apparently they don't.

The Pentagon confirmed on Friday that it is considering segregating gay troops, specifically with regards to creating separate showers and/or barracks for straight and gay troops.

Of course, that wasn't what Morrell said -- and it wasn't even what Carpentier wrote. But, it's what Aravosis told the LGBT community and his readers today.

The segregation portion of Morrell's interview with Think Progress blogger Igor Volsky:

MORRELL: So, when I was asked, about the, you know – this is in the context of “why are you even asking these questions?” – well, we’re asking these questions because in our engagements with the force thus far, this has been an area of some concern. Now we need to test it to see if that holds for—if it really reflects the concerns of the force, and which members of the force. Is it older members? Is it younger members? Are they, you know—which ones? And, and then along with this information, the working group will make some recommendations about how to deal with those concerns. It could be, as I said, who knows? This could be dealt with through education programs, through training programs, or it may require “facilities adjustments.” But no one, no one is considering “separate but equal” bathing or living facilities for you know, gay and straight troops. That’s just not ever a consideration.

Q: So that’s off the table.

MORRELL: Absolutely off the table.

I don't get people sometimes. The truth was out there and folks just ran their own story. I need to know if they think about the impact this foolishness. Because of John's crappy post, I saw too many racist comments and I tell you, I wasn't Gay and proud at all when I read them.

It's really sad to see.

Ted Cruz just received Equine Posterior Achievement Award... Again

He deserved this award.

After making a big fool of himself last month, Right Wing Watch has given the Equine Posterior Achievement Award to Ted again.

Congratulations to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who has won this year’s Equine Posterior Achievement Award, People For the American Way’s annual prize for the country's most extreme right-wing politician. Cruz won by a 21-point margin in a poll of PFAW members and Right Wing Watch readers, repeating his 2013 victory, when he beat out the likes of Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin for the coveted award. The Texas Board of Education came in second place this year, emerging as a serious contender as a result of another round of historical revisionism, denial of climate change science and flirtation with Creationism.

Cruz ended the year by embarrassing himself when he pulled a stunt that backfired badly. The Texas senator and Tea Party darling hoped to humiliate President Obama and congressional leaders by challenging a bipartisan budget bill as a way to show his anger with the president’s recent executive actions on immigration.Instead, Cruz’s maneuver was easily defeated, but it did give Senate Democrats the opportunity to put several judicial and executive nominees up for a vote before Republicans took control of the chamber, delighting Democrats while fomenting anger amongst Cruz’s fellow Republicans.
