Janet Mock's response to The Breakfast Club mess

After appearing on The Breakfast Club, Janet Mock found herself in the middle of a mess. Some stupid fool, Lil Duval, said some hurtful things on that show about trans women. He said:

“This might sound messed up and I don’t care. She dying. I can’t deal with that. You manipulated me to believe in this thing. If one did that to me, and they didn’t tell me, I’mma be so mad I’d probably going to want to kill them.”

Well, Janet responded in a piece in Allure magazine:
The hosts laugh after using my image as a literal prop — just days after I was a guest on the same show — for laughs, vitriol, and a deeper call and justification for violence. Just so we are all clear: On a black program that often advocates for the safety and lives of black people, its hosts laughed as their guest advocated for the murder of black trans women who are black people, too!

This was not the first time that I’ve been misgendered, dismissed, told that I am an abomination, that I need medical help and God, et cetera, et cetera. Boo boo: You are not original. Everything you’ve spewed has been said to me and my sisters before — hundreds of times. But there are deeper consequences to this casual ignorance.
It’s this deplorable rhetoric that leads many cis men, desperately clutching their heterosexuality, to yell at, kick, spit on, shoot, burn, stone, and kill trans women of color. It’s something I’ve written about extensively and even explored in my conversation with actress Amiyah Scott, who lost her sister Chyna Gibson when she was shot to death in New Orleans in February. Chyna was the fifth trans woman killed in 2017.

There have been at least 15 reported deaths of trans women of color so far this year, according to GLAAD.
Until cis people — especially heteronormative men — are able to interrogate their own toxic masculinity and realize their own gender performance is literally killing trans women, cis men will continue to persecute trans women and blame them for their own deaths. If you think trans women should disclose and “be honest,” then why don’t you work on making the damn world safe for us to exist in the first place? The “I’d kill a woman if I found out” rhetoric is precisely why so many women hold themselves so tight — the stigma and shame attached to our desires need to be abolished.
Activists and allies are coming for the Breakfast Club and lil Duval by using the hashtag #TransFolksAreNotaJoke. Please do yourself a favor and check it out

CANDY Magazine showcase Transgender Superstars

Here's info on Candy magazine
Named for the Warhol superstar Candy Darling, it’s a celebration of gender and sexual diversity that manages to be simultaneously glamorous and radical. Venegas is wrapping C☆NDY’s fifth-anniversary issue, out this week, in a special gatefold cover (“Like Vanity Fair’s Hollywood issue,” he says gleefully); it features the world’s biggest transgender names. This feels like a milestone in more ways than one. This also feels like the right moment to nag Venegas about his magnificent obsessions.

Janet Mock is Sending Books to Incarcerated Trans Women and Men

Trans activist and writer, Janet Mock, has been working hard to send books to Trans women and men who are incarcerated. The program is known as the Trans Book Drive.

Check it out

So far the campaign has raised over $9,000 with 19 days to go.

Buzzfeed reports:
So far this year, Mock’s Trans Book Drive has raised $9,238. She is ecstatic. “Initially we were going to send 100 books with the letter and another 100 packages with two books with letters. No, everyone is able to get two books.” With the leftover funds, she will be making an in-kind donation to LGBT Books for Prisoners so they can fulfill incoming requests. Next year, Mock would like to see the Trans Book Drive expand even further. She would like to collaborate with more youth, and hopes to involve the library as well. “Even in New York City, I know the Redefining Realness wait list is so long, there are 50 holds. I want these books to be even more accessible, and I think the library could be a space people can really rally around.”
This is such a cool idea.

Piers Morgan interview with Janet Mock, Take 2

After Piers' horrible interview with Janet Mock, he invited Janet back to reset the stage.

Now, a quick back track: Piers interviewed Janet a couple of days ago and tried to sensationalized the whole thing. Then, when he was called out on it, Piers went on a Twitter tirade over the interview.

Janet kept it classy, but Piers... Child, he lost it.

But today is a new day. Check out the reset interview

Interesting Quote: Janet Mock

“My book is not about Aaron or my relationship, but that’s the most sensational thing they want to pull out. They’re not talking about my advocacy or anything like that, it’s just about this most sensationalized … meme of discussion of trans women’s lives: ‘We’re not real women, so therefore if we’re in relationships with men we’re deceiving them.’ So, it just feeds into those same kinds of myths and fears that they spread around, which leads to further violence of trans women’s bodies and identities.”

Janet Mock speaks about her experience on Piers Morgan Live. Go to BuzzFeed to see how this story plays out.

Shame, Piers!

Transgender Activist Janet Mock will give Keynote Speech at LGBTQ Youth Conference

Transgender activist Janet Mock will give the keynote speech at the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition's 2012 LGBTQ Youth Empowerment Conference.

Janet will be touching on her own personal battles, while encouraging the youth to live authentic and true lives.

Janet said:
"I know that it's so much more than me, so much more than my story, so much more than trying to gain recognition for my journey. It's about kids just like me, kids who are still fighting the good fight every day to just be who they are, no matter how different they may seem from their peers. They are the real heroes, and these courageous kids deserve a shining example who can help lighten their load by merely existing and being an inspiration."
The conference will take place in October 20th on campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.
