I'm Looking for an Apartment... Great Hera

Looking for an apartment is an adventure!

I'm learning a lot about what a single is, what a bachelor is, and if the place covers trash. Oh, let me back track.

I'm leaving my job at the end of the academic year. My position provided me with a (free) apartment for the past 7 years. In fact, all of my positions since 1998 provided me a place, so... I've never paid rent... EVER.

I'm a little scared, but I'm excited to do this. It's totally an experience. I hope to find a cute place, maybe a Carrie Bradshaw type of place.

If any of you have any pointers or tips, please let me know.

Never paid rent? You lucky bitc--- Wow!

My only advice is to read and reread everything before you sign it.

And here's hoping you get a Carrie Bradshaw apartment, but the one that was redecorated after Big left her at the altar!

If you're staying in SoCal, be ready for sticker shock! Where I live, even a rat trap one-bedroom is $1k per month. And I live in Redneckville, not even the big city. If I moved to my local gayborhood my rent would be about $300 higher than what I pay now.

Most places should take care of their trash and water, but the utilities and cable are yours.

In most cases, it's limited what you can do to spruce the place up. In other words, you won't be selecting the colors and textures of the walls, carpets or drapes.

Good luck with the search!
