My Rant: Are Fanboys Ruining Everything?

I think I have figured it out! I think I know why Hollywood ain't coming to Comic Con and why certain action movies work and don't work... The Fanboys.

I used to think the Fangirls were dangerous, but no, it's the boys. It's always the boys.

I think about the theatrical HOT ASS MESS, 'Sucker Punch'. That movie was DOA, anyone in the viewing room would have burned that movie to the ground. But at Comic Con, the fanboys got horny and stupid, and hyped that trash to the top. Then once it hit the screen... Burnt!

Think about Transformers, Clash of the Titans, Terminator, Fast and Furious and even Green Lantern... Why are these movies being made? Why are these movies insulting to the human brain? Because Hollywood believes in the toxic Fanboy.

This type of Fanboy is Hollywood's idea of a horny, lonely being, hoping to see alien sex and explosions. And the sad part is, some of them are out there.  They focus more on the hot babe vs the story. They think a Playboy playmate could play Wonder Woman, they worship Michael Bay and they beg for another 'Underworld' or Resident Evil'. These particular fanboys are killing our credibility and ruining everything. Their judgement is horrid and if they continue their madness, Megan Fox will be Xena in the series reboot in 10 years.

These particular fanboys are hurting the movement and I think it's time to hold them accountable. So Gay geeks, it's time to rise up and take control of the Intergalactic geek ship.

I sort of agree, but it isn't all fanboys. Its just stupid people in general. Hollywood assumes the only things men want to see are hot chicks and explosions. They also assume that women only want to see shirtless men and romance stories. We can't blame it all on a group of people or Micheal Bay (even though he definitely contributed). Hollywood only cares about making money, not good stories. So if more people, not just us gay geeks, throw our support behind quality entertainment. Actually, I'd say fanboys are some of the best viewers. Fanboys and fangirls are the reason Futurama and Family Guy came back, we're how Firefly got a movie, we turned the talented Felicia Day into a internet superstar, and a lot more. So, I wouldn't say fanboys are the problem, just idiots in general.

Also, Underworld and Resident Evil are awesome. Deal with it.

The problem is indeed the fans, but I find it's the other way round to the way you're telling it, dear chap. Well, at least partially.

One of my friends once said to me that "no-one hates Doctor Who like Doctor Who fans"; and it sums up a large amount of the problem. Overly vocal, unable or willing to move with the times fanboys. Wonder Woman, for example, had a lot that could have been done with it, but the moment they released the costume shot, the howls of protest started. and they didn't let up. The same with the Green Lantern film. The same with Transformers. It's that very fandom thing of "I'm a fan therefore I know exactly what should be in this, and it's this...", when it usually results in a mess. Going back to Wonder Woman again, why couldn't they use a different costume? Why couldn't they alter Diana's story somewhat? It's based on, not copied from.

The problem is indeed the fanboy (and fangirl), but it's that they don't know when to be quiet and let things develop, and offer constructive points along the way in a reasonable way, instead of the waves of fannish ire that seem to emanate from fandoms these days. And dear lord, don't let any of your fandoms find out you like other fandoms, they're SO not compatible...

Underworld was perfectly competent, Green Lantern was enjoyable and paid enough attention to the mythos to keep the average person happy, and Transformers was enjoyably big and loud and had giant robots fighting. I also enjoy Doctor Who, Star Trek, horror and Disney.

The real reason Hollywood won't be at SDCC may indeed be the fans. Mostly because many of said fans seem to think that positive comments won't be taken seriously, so it all needs to be negative.
