I missed Pacey-Con!

While I was living it up at Comic Con, I missed an exciting event... Pacey-Con!

The actor, Joshua Jackson, was at Comic Con promoting his hit TV show, Fringe. But he decided to go back to his roots and play Pacey from Dawson's Creek; and host his own Pacey-Con.

Someone wandering around at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend happened to spot Fringe's Joshua Jackson. He says: "I was walking back to my hotel after eating at Cafe Diem to take a break and a small group of people were gathered on the lawn a distance from the convention center. They were standing around Joshua Jackson from 'Fringe', he was staging his own 'Pacey-Con', giving out fan fiction he wrote and getting pictures with the women, all while the 'Dawson's Creek' theme music played on a boom box, it was quite funny, to say the least."

I wish I saw this.

That's Comic Con in my world. But I also wanted to do a recap of my experience in San Diego. So here we go.

• It so fun, I think everybody should at least once.
• I will stay downtown next time.
  
• The hired help were not informed properly. They were giving the wrong info and had no idea what was going on.
• Nathan Fillion is really hot in person.
• There were tons of folks there.
• Doctor Who peeps were very popular this year.
  
• The process to get limited Comic Con edition of toys is tired. We shouldn't have to stand in line to get in, stand in line to get a ticket to get the toys and then stand in line to get the damn thing.
• The costumes are getting better and better.
• Mattel... supply the demand and quit running out of stuff!
  
• Geeks are the best.
• The gays represented this year!
• Comic Con is outgrowing San Diego... It's the truth.
• Putting Supernatural and Smallville panels at the weakest and final day of Comic Con is very telling.
  
• The staff must empty of the main ballrooms! We should not spend most of the day in long ass lines, just to get turn away because of folks sitting in there for the last 8 hours waiting to see Vampire Dairies. Make everyone clear out for each session! (someone got stabbed because of this)
• They need lockers so you can put your items away. It gets tiresome carrying a bunch of toys, comics, posters and figurines all day.
  
• Serve healthy food! All they serve is fast BAD food. Please serve wheat bread, baked chicken and turkey slices.
  
• To the vendors: When an item, like a X-Men figure that cost $14 bucks, sells out. Don't turn around and sell your sold out figure for $75 dollars.
• I'm declaring war on these slutty, broke ass Wonder Woman costumes! If you're going to dress like her, do it right!
• These movie studios use scantly clad women to giveaway promotions for movies, but where are the scantly clad men? We need men dressed up in sexy gear! It's not fair to see nothing but starlets. That's sexism!
• I want folks to stop wearing those demon/possessed eye contacts at Comic-Con. It ain't cute.
• Fashion does not exist at Comic Con.
  
• I can't wait for next year, but really... Comic Con should come to Los Angeles. We can handle it.
  

Great Hera! Somebody was stabbed at Comic Con!

I heard about this yesterday. I thought it was rumor, but it's true.

Here's the deal from Robot 6:

Multiple reports are emerging out of Comic-Con International this afternoon of a scuffle over seats in Hall H, ending in a stabbing. The massive room, where many of the film presentations are held, was locked down, and a man led away in handcuffs by police.

Although details are scarce at the moment, Dread Central reports the fight erupted just as the Resident Evil: Afterlife panel was ending about 4:45 p.m. PST. The fight between two attendees allegedly broke out when one of them refused to change seats. According to Dread Central, one man stabbed the other in the eye with a pen.

Here's an update CBR:

Sergeant Gary Mondesir of the San Diego Police Department spoke about the incident.

"Basically, inside of Hall H during Comic-Con, prior to one of the showings, two males got into a dispute," Sergeant Mondesir said. "One male attacked the other male, stabbing him on the side of his eye with a pen. Officers were relatively close by. Citizens within the hall detained the person. Officers came and arrested him, and right now we're processing the scene inside."

The victim was taken to UCSD Medical Center immediately for treatment while the suspect was arrested without incident thanks to the aid of attendees including, as Mondesir said, "The victim's friend actually assisted in taking the suspect into custody."

The sergeant explained that the dispute did break out after one person stated that the other person sitting through a panel to attend a later one should leave. "He'll be charged with assault with a deadly weapon due to the stabbing in the eye," he added of the next step in the investigation. "We are still processing the scene. We have a field evidence technician who's taking measurements and collecting evidence...The show is still going on. It happened in an area where we didn't have to stop the show. We can actually work around it and process the scene. It happened inside the hall but off to the side.

"We have numerous witnesses – I'm not at liberty to tell you how many – but we've taken their statements."

This is a mess, but telling about how Comic Con is ran. I will talk about that tomorrow.

Comic Con 2010: Gay in Comics Panel

Hey all!

When I'm at Comic Con, I always go to the Gays in Comics panel. It is a great way to connect with other Comic Book gay geeks and learn about new developments in the gay comic world.

So here is a recap of yesterday's panel:

• On the panel were: Howard Cruse- kind of started gays in comics, Tim Fish - Marvel writer, Dan Parent- introduced Kevin, the 1st gay character in Archie comics, Charles Chistensen - publisher and writer in Prism Comics, Geoff Johns - major player in DC Entertainment, Marjorie M. Liu -writer of Girl Comics and Wolverine's son Daken, Daniel Way - another writer for Daken, Jim McCann - Marvel Comics writer.

• Many folks believe that gay characters should acknowledge their gayness.

• Archie Comics were the only comic company to promote the Gay in Comics panel.

• Howard Cruse created a gay character because there were barely any in a positive light. He also wanted gays to get excited about comics.
  

• Geoff Johns said a gay character will be introduced in Green Lantern soon.

• Kevin, the gay guy in Archie will be a regular character, and Jughead is not gay.

• The room was packed and full of LGBT geeks. I was happy to see the Transgender community represented.

• Gay Comics are still hard to sell in mainstream stores, many can be found online.

• It was noted that X-Men panel did not have as much folks as the gay panel.

• Andy Mangels spoks about the history Gays in Comics. The panel started in 1988 as a way to discuss gays in comics and to bring the gay geeks together.

• Wolverine's son Daken is changing the game. His bisexuality will be heating up soon. The writers wants Daken to show different sides of his character.

• Marvel also a lot of freedom in their comics, but not for a lot of violence.
  

• Batwoman will also get more development... BTW Geoff Jones is really cute.

• While I was there, I saw many web celebs like GayComicGeek, Jody from DoorQ, and J.T. Tepnapa. Oh, I was also recognized by several folks. It was great to meet people who looks to me as a gay geek source. I was really flattered

• I asked Geoff Johns about a Wonder Woman movie, he said it is coming soon.

• Howard is glad to see changes in the 34 years for gay character. He knew the time would come.

• Dan Parent said the shift in today's generation led to the creation of Kevin in Archie comics.

In all it was a great panel.

Comic Con 2010: Captain America Panel

I wasn't at this panel, I happened to be in the Gays in Comics one.

However, I do have the scoop, thanks to SlashFilm

Director Joe Johnston calls the film “a classic adventure love story with an edge.” he says that his favorite movie of all time is Raiders of the Lost Ark, a movie which he also worked on. He says that Raiders feels as modern today as it did they day it was filmed. This is his goal for Captain America.

Joe says that while he has studied the complete history of the character, he’s a fan of the Brubaker version of the Captain America. So they decided to Borrow certain visual elements from Brubaker version, but are “going a bit more modern than the original.”

Johnston also says that “if we don’t love steve Rogers before he gets transformed, we won’t love Jim after.”

Filming has been going on for a few weeks now but Chris Evans only started on set five days ago and claims that he “did some nice gentle scenes to get my feet wet.”

Marvel head/producer Kevin Feige admits that Chris has only been in a test version of the suit. The footage from the teaser trailer was filmed at a costume test. “The suit is coming together well but isn’t finished yet.” he says it’s more realistic than the cartoony version of the suit that leaked a month back. “It is something that is unequivocally the Captain America uniform but fits the time period.”

Hugo Weaving says he listed to tapes of verger Herzog to help him get the voice of Red Skull. He has only worked one day in the mask, and he has “only started” getting to “make the mask work. “
