10 Reasons why the Aaron Schock 'Outing' was an Epic Fail

The Aaron Schock story basically failed to hold ground.

The minute Itay Hoc start his Beauty Shop gossip talk, folks began to question the validity and the credibility of the source. Within a few days, the story fizzled, leaving some activists and bloggers pissed and rest of us shaking our heads on why folks tried to make this 'Fetch' happen.

But just how did this story fail to shake Schock and the public? I'll give you my reasons.

  1. Itay had no proof. You can't break a story with no story.
  2. Staying silent after dropping this rumor didn't help the story either, Itay. You should've did something else than hide.
  3. Itay's cited AmericaBlog's post about Aaron's Gayest Instagram moments as a reason to 'out' Aaron. That's cute, using another petty and tacky post to justify your petty and tacky post. Two messy actions don't make a legit situation.
  4. Using stereotypes to justify your reasons to out someone is a quick way to lose respect from your peers.
  5. Saying things like 'He follows Tom Daley on Instagram makes him suspicious' is also petty. I guess for those who follow NOM, Brian Brown, or Tony Perkins... Poof, you're Bigots.
  6. The credibility of the folks involved. Real talk, the two main folks raving against this are not the most beloved people in the game. So, when you have a broke down rep, folks will second guess.
  7. No one really cared. In a lot of ways, no one outside of the bubble really cared if Aaron Schock is gay or not. Trying to make us care over some bogus claims was ridiculous. We're not that dumb.
  8. Also trying to make us feel bad for not believing the story is a sad form of guilt-tripping. And I will tell you, a lot of us are not here for that.
  9. When real journalists felt indifferent or provided other points of view, you knew Itay's claims wasn't going to stick.
  10. When Mike Rogers, King of Outing, sort of shrugged... it was already over.
The moral of this story is this, when you use a weak foundation as stepping stone, eventually, you and your cause fall hard.  Itay, chalk this up as a lesson learn.

What this Aaron Schock Sandal says about Us

You have all the posts about Aaron Schock and his 'outing'. It has been very interesting and very telling about our community in so many ways.

I mean, seriously, the way this rumor attracted drama was crazy. We haven't seen a lick of proof about Aaron being gay and all of a sudden, we are asking for his head on a silver platter? Really, folks? Let me list some of the issues I have with this entire thing.

  • First of all, the way Itay brought this story up was tacky. It was some Beauty Shop type of gossip and then gave us no proof of his claims. What self-respectful journalist does that? Oh, I know, messy ones.
  • That post about Aaron's 7 gayest Instagram pics was childish and tacky. Yes, we all have laughed at Aaron's fashion choices, Hera knows I have. But to stereotype him like that is ridic. The way AmericaBlog did that was no different than straight guys picking of the effeminate kid.
  • Reading some of the comments on other posts were very disturbing. We have some truly angry and misguided folks in our community. Child, if you want to see what sadness looks like, check out some of those comments. It will make you think about who is reading our blogs.
  • We seem thirsty for drama. Every little thing Aaron was doing, like locking up his social media accounts meant he was hiding his sexuality. Whatever, we all have blocked someone, locked our FB or Twitter accounts to protect out pics and posts. Plus, there was a post about his Instagram pics, why wouldn't he lock those up after all of that?
  • What does outing him really accomplish? Who wins? What's gained? The truth is, no one wins. No one. Yeah, we are pulling him out, but what does that really do for our movement? We can keep telling ourselves that outing him because of his anti-gay record is good, but what it really does and set up more misunderstanding about our community.
  • All of this energy put on Aaron, could be place on something else.
  • If he is a self-hating gay, then he will suffer. That's his personal Hell, not ours. If he is gay, let him deal with his self-hating ways. The pain of that will eventually eat away at him.
Our thirst for his suffering is a bit much. If he's gay, then he's gay. We continue to live and breathe. We will hold him accountable for his actions, but let's this sleeping jackal lie. No need to pick up the fleas from this mess.

With No Proof, CBS Reporter Itay Hod claims HE KNOWS GOP Rep. Aaron Schock is Gay

This CBS reporter Itay Hod is causing some drama for your mama.

He claims that he knows Congressman Aaron Schock is gay. He knows.

In a FB post, Itay writes:

people always say, no one has the right to out anyone. that coming out is a private matter. i disagree. as you can imagine, not a very popular opinion. but bear with me.

here's a hypothetical: what if you know a certain GOP congressman, let's just say from Illinois, is gay... and you know this because one of your friends, a journalist for a reputable network, told you in no uncertain terms that he caught that GOP congressman and his male roommate in the shower... together. now they could have been good friends just trying to conserve water. but there's more. what if this congressman has also been caught by tmz cameras trolling gay bars. now what if you know that this very same guy, the darling of the gop, has also voted against repeal of don’t ask don’t tell, opposed the repeal of doma, is against gay marriage; and for the federal marriage amendment, which would add language to the us constitution banning gay marriage and would likely strike down every gay rights law and ordinance in the country?

Are we still not allowed to out him?

let me ask another question... doesn't the media have an OBLIGATION to expose his hypocrisy? if he had done something so hypocritical and he wasn't gay, wouldn't we demand journalists do their job? but they can't... because we won't let them. you're not allowed to out ANYONE, we tell them.

we've created a situation where even though news organizations know this guy is gay, they can't report it because he hasn't said so on twitter.

if we keep saying that being gay is genetic; ergo, it's no different than having blue eyes or blonde hair... than why are not allowed to mention it? why do we need anyone's consent to talk about their sexuality? are we not allowed to say someone has blue eyes until they post a fb message telling us they are in fact blue?

we've been so effective at convincing everyone that outing people is a crime against humanity, that we've made it impossible for any network or news organization to talk about this "hypothetical" gay republican congressman and his hypocritical vote against gay rights. they won't touch it for fear of retribution from GLAAD or HRC. (in fact when my friend's network interviewed said hypothetical republican, he talked about wanting to find a nice woman to marry... and the network aired it... knowing it was a lie...

so, forgive me if I don't subscribe to the notion that you're not allowed to out anyone... in fact in some cases, i'd celebrate it. but I'm crazy that way. Herndon Graddick

by the way... not sure why... but had a sudden urge to share this.

Okay, okay. But just like Whitney Houston said to Diana Sawyer, "I want to see the receipts."

Where is the proof and why is Itay lollygagging with the supposed proof?

When you read his post; really read this post, you see nothing but gossip. Itay heard from someone about something that supposed to happened? Child, that's how nosy folks spread rumors.

And why would the media protect Aaron? He isn't super special and there isn't much they could lose on this info. I guess I want to know why would anyone protect him if they have the proof? The roommate, colleagues, or whomever, why haven't they come forward?

Also, why are some of us so excited about this? Why are so on board with this rumor? Yes, Aaron has an Anti-gay voting record and he's not a team player, but to be sold on rumor is beneath us.

Let me say this, when I come for people, I COME for people. If I had proof, I would blasting it all on Twitter, blogs, and FB. I wouldn't be talking all this smack about 'He said, She said', no. I would bring it from the gate, at least to prove I'm not spreading rumors. So far, that's what Itay is doing and some of us are falling right into this foolishness.

We should be careful about this kind of mess, because in some ways, it sends a negative message about our community. I'm not siding with Aaron, I just think this type of stuff is tacky and messy. And to be real, this some teenage/jealous/bullcrap talk with no proof. What Itay is doing, petty and childish, and I don't have time for children's games.
