UPDATED In Detroit: Gay man attacked at Motor City Pride festival

This is sad to report.

20-year-old, Christin Howard, was attacked and beaten by a group of men this past Sunday at Detroit’s Motor City Pride.

The attack was caught on tape and Detroit's WXYZ reported the story:

In Detroit: A Trans Woman was found dead in a Trash Can

Sad and horrific news.

A trans woman was found dead in a garbage can in Detroit. At this time, she hasn't been identified.

Her body was found by a mother and son, looking for bottles and cans. No words on the injuries or the cause of death.

The director of victim services for Equality Michigan, Yvonne Siferd said this about the incident:

“We are saddened and angry to hear of the murder of another transgender woman of color who has yet to be identified. The undignified way in which her body was dumped speaks to the larger issue of antitransgender hostility in our society, and the vast amount of work we, as supporters of the LGBT communities, have in front of us. We know that transgender women of color are the most disproportionately affected by violence and hate against the LGBT communities, and this latest incident is a tragic reminder of that reality.”

Trans family, please be careful in Detroit and look out for one another. Please.

The 7-year-old, whom the Free Press is not naming, had been depressed about being bullied by other kids at school and in his neighborhood, and about his parents' recent separation, the boy's mother told police, according to the report.

"It's just a tragedy on so many levels," Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. said Thursday, calling the situation "unfathomable."

He said the department is investigating the child's death, but as of Thursday afternoon, it appeared the situation is "exactly as presented" -- a suicide.

The autopsy results were pending Thursday evening, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office.

Godbee said he was told that the child had expressed a desire to harm himself. The mother also told police her son was being counseled by the family's pastor to help him cope.

I really don't have words for this... my heart goes out to the family.
