Duh! Jared Lee Loughner is Incompetent to Stand Trial

Lord, I thought they knew...

Jared Lee Loughner’s “major mental illness” leaves him so delusional and psychotic that he is incompetent to stand trial, a federal judge ruled today.


U.S. District Court Judge Larry A. Burns viewed hours of videotape of Loughner, he said, and agreed with the conclusion of the psychiatrist and psychologist who evaluated him: Loughner can’t understand the court proceedings or help his lawyers.


“The defendant was generally unable to provide rational and coherent thoughts,” Burns said.


Citing a report by psychologist Christina Pietz , he said “ At times he answered simple questions with answers that were lengthy and nonsensical.”

UPDATE In Nevada: Two More Transgender Protection Bills reach the desk of Gov. Sandoval

Yesterday, 2 more bills protecting Transgender peeps hit the state Nevada. The community is now waiting to see Gov. Sandoval act on them.

The Assembly on Monday passed a bill adding transgender people to the list of groups protected from discrimination in housing or rental agreements.


Lawmakers also passed a measure prohibiting discrimination against transgender people in public places such as restaurants. The bill makes an exception so bars can host gender-based promotions such as Ladies Night.


All Democrats and three Republican Assemblymen voted in favor of the two bills. They now head to Gov. Brian Sandoval.


A third bill barring employment discrimination against transgender people passed both houses and was delivered to the governor last week. 

The Governor has until Wednesday or Thursday to sign or veto the bill. He needs to do the right thing and sign them into law.

UPDATE Gov. Sandoval signed Bill 211 into law.

Sandoval signed Assembly Bill 211 in a ceremony attended by transgender activists and the bill's primary sponsors, Assemblyman Paul Aizley, D-Las Vegas, and Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas.

Under the bill, which will go into effect Oct. 1, employers cannot discriminate against people based on their gender "identity or expression," which could be opposite of the gender they had at birth. However, employers could require appropriate workplace clothing and grooming standards.
It becomes unlawful "to fail to hire or to fire or otherwise discriminate" against transgender people. 

Only employers with 15 or more employees would be subject to the law. Estimates are there are 25,000 transgender men and women in Nevada.

Oh Snap! During the Hero Complex Film Festival in June, comic cuties Geoff Johns and Jim Lee will reveal big, big news on the DC Comic Universe in films.

Superstar comics creators Geoff Johns and Jim Lee say they are bringing bombshell announcements about the future of Superman and the entire DC Universe to the Hero Complex Film Festival on June 11.

The DC leadership duo will be interviewed on stage by Hero Complex lead writer Geoff Boucher as part of the still-expanding Saturday program. Single-day tickets for Saturday are $45 and include a double feature of “Superman” and “Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut,” as well as an on-stage interview with Donner, the director who brought the Man of Steel to the screen in historic fashion in the 1970s. 

Surprise guests, prize giveaways and more programming will make the day a must-not-miss moment for DC fans and Hero Complex readers.

Get excited because the news could be huge (meaning we may learn about a Wonder Woman flick or her role in the Justice League film)!
