Andrew Garfield is 'Spider-Man'

Well the rumors are put to rest.

Andrew is the new Spidey.

After a comprehensive worldwide casting search, Andrew Garfield has been chosen to portray Peter Parker when Spider-Man swings back onto the screen in 3D on July 3, 2012. The new film will begin production in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.

Today’s confirmation culminates what has been one of the most eagerly anticipated casting announcements in recent memory. Bloggers, pop culture speculators, and everyday fans have pored over and analyzed every conceivable online rumor in an attempt to discover the identity of the next actor to play Peter Parker. Garfield will immediately begin preparing for the coveted role.

The Spider-Man franchise is one of the most successful in film history and the three previous motion pictures have collectively grossed more than $2.5 billion in worldwide box office.

On selecting Garfield, director Marc Webb said, “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, President of Columbia Pictures said, “Spider-Man is a classic superhero — a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Andrew Garfield. From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film The Social Network, to his glorious screen test, which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker.”

Producer Avi Arad added, “I’m incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield. In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”

Somebody Tried to set the Mormon Temple on Fire!

This is interesting... LA Times has reported at someone tried to burn up the Mormon Temple in Westwood (one of my favorite areas in L.A.)

Los Angeles police Wednesday released video footage of a suspect caught on tape in May as he allegedly tried to set fire to a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The suspect, carrying a backpack of combustible material and a thermos cup, walked onto church property at 10777 Santa Monica Blvd. on May 17 and tried to enter a locked door, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The man was unable to get inside the Westwood temple. Three hours later, a suspicious fire broke out in the church's garden area, according to the LAPD.

The video footage shows a man with a backpack walking up to a door at the temple. The LAPD did not say how it obtained the footage or how it was shot. The suspect appeared to be in his late 20s, police said, and was wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans.

Could it Take 5 years for ENDA to pass?

At the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club Pride breakfast, Rep. Jackie Speier said that ENDA could take 5 year to pass.

Bay Area Reporter states:

Addressing the crowd of gay and straight political and community leaders at Sunday's Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club Pride breakfast, Speier said, "Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi is doing all she can to ensure a majority for next year so we can pass ENDA."

Asked later in a brief interview if that meant the House would not vote on ENDA this year, Speier told the B.A.R. , "The rest of the year is in question."

"There's no question 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' will be history this year," she said. "ENDA, we will have that law for sure within the next five years."

Speier, a Democrat whose district includes parts of San Mateo and San Francisco counties, said she was acknowledging reality.

"I'm being realistic," she said.

Now before everybody goes all 'Chicken Little', just realize a couple of things.

1. This is not a complete fact. This is her view and opinion. There is no proof of this yet.
2. It may take until next year to iron out several kinks with ENDA, so next year makes a little more sense.
3. This is not about priorities and how 'we' don't count. It's about getting the votes and the support. So work will need to be done.
   

As some of you may have expected, several gay activists jumped the gun and ran around screaming "The sky is Falling!!" But there's no need for that. Let's wait to get the full story.

Donald Carcieri is an Asshole

Donald Carcieri is the Governor of Rhode Island and he's a huge asshole!

He just vetoed a bill to expand Hate Crime law in the state:

House Bill 7044/Senate Bill 2055 proposed the addition of gender identity or expression to Rhode Island’s hate crimes statute. Carcieri vetoed the measure because he said the law already addresses actions "motivated by racial, religious, sexual orientation, gender or disability prejudice."

House Speaker Gordon D. Fox issued a statement shortly after Carcieri vetoed the measure. "I have just learned of the governor’s vetoes, which were sent late last night, and have begun to review the veto messages," said Fox. "I made the House membership aware of the eight vetoes this morning. I look forward to discussing these bills further with House members and the Senate leadership. No decision has been made at this time about returning to address the vetoes."

Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders encouraged LGBT Rhode Islanders to urge their legislators to override Carcieri’s veto.

Is Josh Hutcherson the new Spider-Man?

The rumor mill is running wild on this!

Apparently Josh Hutcherson is the new Spidey.

Blue Sky Disney said:

Your friendly, rebooted Spider-Man in the flesh. Word from my Bothans is that Sony has settled on "Journey to the Center of the Earth's" Josh Hutcherson as the newly, high school bound Peter Parker. After several extensive test shoots were performed, Marc Webb and the top Sony $uits decided that Hutcherson was the right fit for the role and an offer was made and has been accepted. Now I wonder who'll be cast as the Lizard? Whoops, I mean, the villain...

Cinematical reports:

I imagine the rumor mill will dub each and every one of the final five (no wait -- final seven!) contenders "the new Spider-Man!" before we actually have a confirmation of who really is the new webslinger. So, a few weeks after hearing that Jamie Bell was really and truly Spider-Man, now Blue Sky Disney says Josh Hutcherson is the once and rebooted Peter Parker.

The rumor that Josh Hutcherson is going to be your next friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has been stirring the Internet into a frenzy. But is the rumor true? Sony Pictures isn’t commenting, but sources seem to indicate that Hutcherson, 17, is the guy for the job. He’s screen-tested for the role, along with a plethora of young up-and-comers, including Jamie Bell and Aaron Johnson. But his name is the one that keeps on coming around.

Hutcherson has been acting for the past decade and is getting noticed for his role opposite Annette Bening and Julianne Moore in the indie film The Kids Are All Right, which opens June 9.

Is he the one? We will find out soon.
