New Study: Gay Men are less likely to be offered Job Interviews

This is unsettling. According to this study, gay men struggle to get job interviews:
Harvard University researcher Andras Tilcsik sent two realistic but fictitious CVs to 1,700 white collar job openings, such as managerial positions.

One CV mentioned relevant experience in a university gay society as a treasurer, while the other listed experience in the ‘Progressive and Socialist Alliance’.

Both were Mr Tilcsik said that since employers are likely to associate both groups with left-leaning political views, this would separate any ‘gay penalty’ from the effects of political discrimination.
The results showed that applicants without the gay reference had an 11.5 per cent chance of being called for an interview. However, CVs which mentioned the gay society had only a 7.2 per cent chance. The difference amounted to a 40 per cent higher chance of the heterosexual applicant getting a call.

The study found that states in the South and Midwest – Florida, Ohio and Texas – had the largest differences in callback rates. However, minimal differences were found for Western and North-Eastern states such as California, Nevada, Pennsylvania and New York.
Not surprising, but not cute to read about.

Interesting Quote: Gov. Rick Perry

"There is still a land of opportunity, friends — it's called Texas. We're creating more jobs than any other state in the nation. ... Would you rather live in a state like this, or in a state where a man can marry a man?"

Someone Lay Hands on Kevin Dujan

This man, Kevin DuJan, needs help y'all.

He went from fueling Hillary's campaign through his ongoing PUMA site (Who still has a PUMA site?) Hillbuzz, to possibly supporting Sarah Palin for President?

CBS News reports:
A 33-year-old gay man who works as a development consultant and freelance writer, DuJan has long considered himself a Clinton Democrat. During the 2008 primaries, he spent his weekdays running phone banks for Hillary Clinton out of his home in the Boystown neighborhood of Chicago and traveled to 26 states and Puerto Rico on behalf of the candidate.

But after Clinton suspended her campaign, DuJan made a dramatic about face and spent the general election volunteering for the Republican ticket.

When John McCain named Sarah Palin his vice presidential nominee, DuJan was overjoyed, and Palin quickly became his new political idol.

He is now eagerly awaiting the arrival of February 6, 2011, the date he has decided that Sarah Palin will announce her 2012 presidential campaign in Tampico, Illinois, to mark the 100th anniversary of hometown hero Ronald Reagan's birthday.

DuJan has even picked out the color he wants Palin to use for her presidential campaign logo (green, in order to dilute criticisms from the left that she is anti-environment).
Mr. DuJan is known for mess. Joe.My.God. has more info on this sad man's drama.

I don't know what type of crack he's smoking, but this man is not on the stable bus, if you get my drift.

Ramin Setoodeh talks about Gay Actors playing Straight, and it doesn't work.

Interesting clip following Ramin Setoodeh's article about Gay Actors in Hollyhood.

He believes that gay actors can't play straight characters. Again, it's interesting, so read the article and then watch the clip.

P.S. There's a huge backlash on Ramin from the folks of Glee

The Search for Bryce Faulkner

This is a sad and scary story. Friends are desperately searching for Bryce.

This info is from Sozo's Blog
"Faulkner, 23, was preparing to come out to deeply religious family in Arkansas when his mother discovered his emails to his boyfriend, Travis who lives in Wisconsin. Bryce was given an ultimatum of being kicked out of his family and put out on the street or going into ex-gay therapy. Before Bryce disappeared his boyfriend Travis recieved one last phone call on June 15th and was crying uncontrollably saying, ‘You should have heard the mean and hateful things they said about me. They made me read out loud passages from the Bible’. 'One of the last things he said to me before falling asleep was, ‘Promise me you will be strong for me and for us’.' Travis said. Travis believes Bryce may be at an Exodus International ministry in Florida. He said a friend of the family had heard Faulkner would be in Mississippi for three weeks and then in Florida for 14 months. His friends have created a ‘Save Bryce’ web campaign to find out where the student is."

I hope they can find him and soon.
