Brittney Griner gets an executive Deal with Nike

WNBA's top draft pick Brittney Griner signed an exclusive deal with Nike.

Here's more from SheWired
Endorsements have been a sticking point for some athletes worried about coming out, as lower-tier athletes had previously worried that being gay might deter companies from embracing their image. However Nike made it clear that they would consider endorsing "anyone thinking about becoming the first openly gay athlete in major U.S. team sports — the company wants him as an endorser," according to Rick Welts, an openly gay basketball executive.

Of course there are already a few out lesbian players in the WNBA, but Griner's signing with Nike is yet another signifier that the league is working to innovate a new image (a $12 million ESPN deal and a new logo) that can compete with NBA, and garner a comprarable level of fandom.
Congrats, Brittney! Get that money!

What in the Hell did we ever do to you, NIKE?

Nike's ads department SUCKS! Y'all remember last year, they did this "That Ain't Right" ad. They were quickly attacked for their foolishness. However, they didn't learn their lesson.

Their new ad says: "The only thing worse than going to the ballet is going to the ballet to see your son."

Please, "The only thing worse than going to the ballet is seeing your son strung out some enhancement drugs trying to hit the 4567th home run, while suffering from small nuts due to more self-destructive drugs, sweetie." That's my ad.

But turns out, it wasn't a Nike ad, it was a part of student ad design competition. The ad was selected by a "leading professional" as one of the best ads submitted for the quarter, and won a spot in the CMYK magazine.

Still, it's interesting the "leading professional" allowed this to happen, considering the mess from their last anti-gay-like ad. That's not a professional's style. And how did they get to use the Nike logo? Something ain't right, alright.
