Remember Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover

Carl committed suicide on this day.

He did this because he was bullied at school and taunted of being gay.

A year later, a group has created facebook project: 5 Minutes to Remember Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover
Please spend 5 minutes in Carl's memory and CALL YOUR Representative and ask him/her to support (or thank them if they already do) the Safe Schools Improvement Act, a comprehensive federal anti-bullying bill.

MESSAGE FROM CARL'S MOTHER, Sirdeaner Walker:

One year ago Tuesday, my son Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover brought his life to an end after enduring relentless harassment and cruel bullying at school. It is difficult to put into words what it feels like to remember that terrible day. But it is not difficult at all to do something positive in Carl’s memory.

That is why I hope you will join me in taking a moment from your busy day to reflect on Carl’s life and his tragic suicide – and to remember that bullying in schools has very serious and life-threatening consequences.
Please remember Carl.

Carl J. Walker-Hoover was buried today...

Carl J. Walker-Hoover was buried today at his family's church. I can't help but to think about the reasons why we lost this child.

I'm outraged that his cries for help was ignored and he had nowhere to go. The school should be ashamed of their actions and parents of the bullies should take a hard look at their kids and themselves.

It brings back memories of my childhood and being teased for liking Wonder Woman and She-ra. I was very lucky to make it out...most of us were lucky.

I can rant about this all day, but I will stop here. I just hope that the message is clear. Our kids need our support and protection.
Hundred from the community show up for Carl Walker-Hoover funeral

Carl Walker-Hoover's Mother calls for state probe after his suicide

Carl Walker-Hoover committed suicide because he was teased and picked at school, now his mother, Sirdeaner L. Walker, wants a state probe into the New Leadership Charter School.

She believes that they did nothing to stop the bullying despite her many complaints to the school.

If this is the case, then the school needs to be grilled. I can't understand how a teacher can just sit there and let a kid be teased and bullied. A life was taken from us because of negligence. I hope this school takes a good hard look at the tragedy they could have prevented.

My heart goes out to the family of Carl Walker-Hoover.

Another loss due to Bullying

This is really crushing me right now...

Please read:

The mother of an 11-year-old sixth-grader who committed suicide by wrapping an extension cord around his neck and hanging himself says her son’s death could have been prevented -- he was a victim of school bullying, she says.

Sirdeaner L. Walker said she found her son Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover dead on the second floor of their Springfield, Mass., home. She said he had endured another day of teasing from his fellow classmates.

“I just want to help some other child,” she said. “I know there are other kids being picked on, and it's day in and day out."

Carl played football, basketball, and was a boy scout -- but that didn’t stop other kids from picking on him, his mom said. Students called him gay and made fun of him for the way he dressed.

Sirdeaner Walker said she began phoning his school repeatedly when Carl first told her about the bullying last September, but she says the school was unresponsive.

This madness has to end. I urge people to demand the Schools District Boards to make Bullying a high priority. How many more do we have to lose? When will schools send a stronger message?
