I'm not sure. I think it's partly because the show moves at such a slow pace--people have often said this about Mad Men, but I think the glamour/clothes/smoking/drinking of the period draw people in.
Also, with most of the focus on Patrick, Dom and Agustin (but moreso Dom) are just starting to make an impression.

I wish I had an answer. I got rid of HBO a few months back and only have Cinemax for Banshee.
I think it's because it is another show that really doesn't show the realness of us.

And to be fair, GIRLS is a low rated show as well (not as low as Looking, but not as popular as say, True Blood).
I think people need to give it some time... What show grabs you in the first 3 episodes?
They should have released it netflix style with all episodes available simultaneously.
BTW, HBO's True Detective with Mconaughey and Harrelson is REALLY good.
