There were geeky goodness this year, some good and some, well not-so-good. Still, there were plenty of things to talk about, so here are some of my big geeky things that happened this year.
Check them out after the jump.
In no particular order:
Man of Steel - the movie came and went with mixed reviews. While Henry Cavill did the hero justice, many found the character to be a bit cold and far from the man we know as Superman.
A New Doctor - Matt Smith announced that he was leaving Doctor Who, so Peter Capaldi was picked to carry the title. Peter is a return to the classic looking Doctor. While many hoped for a Doctor of color, Peter was graciously welcomed into the role by the fans. And it was the 50th Anniversary of the Doctor.
Gay Geeks vs Orson Scott Card - This was the first battle we would have with him this year. Once word got out about OSC writing Adventures of Superman, the gays got busy. All Out created an online charge to get him off the comic. To our surprise, DC caved and moved the comic back to a later release.
The end of Locke & Key - Joe Hill's stellar horror comic series came to an end this year. We got to see an somewhat happy ending to the Locke family. The series was gripping and a fantastic read. I wish there were more stories to be told.
Bats and Supes together at last - At Comic-Con, it was announced that the Man of Steel sequel will feature Batman and to continue the buzz, Ben Affleck was named the new Batman. Fans were up at arms about this, in fact, some of them created petitions to get him off the movie. Good or bad, this announcement has everyone anticipating this movie. I just hope it delivers.
Batwoman will never be happy - Both gay and straight fans were livid about Batwoman's dead marriage. According to her writers, W. Haden Blackman and J.H. Williams III left the comic because they wasn't allowed to marry Batwoman to her partner. Many of us were furious over this and DC tried to smooth things over by hiring a gay writer to work on Batwoman.
The Gays came for Ender's Game - Geeks Out lead a campaign to take down the Ender's Game film. The campaign took off and Ender's Game was a flop. Did the hype help? I think it did, it brought most awareness to the horrible homophobic Orson Scott Card.
The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Marvel Universe's first TV series hit the scene this fall. The show hit several obstacles, mostly by fans with high and unrealistic expectations. The show seems to be getting on track, but the success of the series remains to be seen.
The Wolverine - It was a better film than Wolverine: Origins, but it wasn't anything to shout about.
Days of Future Past cast - At the end of 2012, we learned that the next X-Film was DOFP. But in 2013, we saw the cast come together. New and old X-Men from the comic and the movie series were brought together for this film.
Spidey's back again - The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was being filmed this year and it will have not one, not two, but three villains. Hope this doesn't repeat the same mess Spider-Man 3 made.
Avengers: Age of Ultron - The sequel will bring us the brilliant James Spader as Ultron and mutant members, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. The buzz was super high about this film, especially with Quicksilver appearing in the X-Men film as well.
Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman- The jury is still out on this one. As the dust settles, many fans are still unclear if she can pull it off. She wasn't the fans' choice and she has a lot riding on her shoulders. If she fails to deliver, Warner could be in big trouble.

ReplyDeleteAnd yet, Cavill still managed to be accepted as Superman . . . and "MAN OF STEEL" went on to become a box office hit. Gee? I wonder why?

Geeks and critics are still trying to push this stupid myth? The only real villain in "SPIDEY-3" was Topher Grace.
The Wolverine - It was a better film than Wolverine: Origins, but it wasn't anything to shout about.
No, it wasn't. It wasn't even better than the first "X-MEN" movie.
