Convo with a Friend

My friend told me that he's not built for a relationship. I asked him why does think that and he said, it's too much to be bothered with.

He likes being with himself. But I can't imagine not wanting to be with someone or being single forever. I told him he hasn't found the right guy, but he says, "I'm good."

I said that he has to believe in love. But he said 'not really'. I never heard anyone say that before. I wonder what happened to make him feel that way? I kinda hurt my heart to hear that. I think you have to believe, you have to believe that someone will love and cherish you.

Yeah, you have to believe in love... Because if you don't, what else do you have to believe in?

New Book celebrates Black Gay Relationships and Love

Fellow blogger and writer Darian Aaron has a new book that celebrates the relationships of same gender loving couples of color.

It's called, "When Love Takes Over" and provides passionate look at love between Black gay men. Here's some info:

Out’s First Annual Sex and Love Survey Results

If you didn't know, OUT magazine is still around and they just did a survey. When I got a look at it, I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow just a little.

Certain things were surprising to me, for example, many guys have had an open relationship. I mean I know guys do, but the numbers were higher than I thought. And many guys still do the good old role play stuff, I though that fazed out in the 90s.

I did... Oh, I could write a series on my high school best friend/crush/love lust.

I was so in love, I followed him to college. I guess I owe him my Bachelor's degree.

Nhojj makes OUTMusic Awards History

I'm so late on this, so I apologize.

Indie recording artist Nhojj made history at the OUTMusic Awards. He became the first Black male to receive 2009 Outstanding R&B/Soul Song of the Year by The Alliance of LGBT Recording Artists & Performers.

His winning song is called "Love", please check it out

Now, This is a Gay Wedding

These two did it and did it well.

Stylist Michael K. Cole, owner of the famed and celebrated Talk of the Town Salon, stood before family and friends in a commitment ceremony between he and his soul-mate Jamil Smith.

In a unique celebration stylized like an official wedding ceremony, Cole and Smith were intentional in their efforts to break through the barriers of a world immersed in intolerance. They said their union opened the doors of possibility for both heterosexuals and members of the GLBT community who are seeking true love. “What this ceremony meant to the gay community is that now a lot of gay people can say that 'Yes, we too can do this.’” Cole said. Cole and Smith said they met a few years ago at Gay Pride Celebration in Atlanta, GA. Cole and Smith hit it off in a way that reads like the pages of a fairytale. “From the day we met there was an initial connection. What started out as 4 or 5 hours together, talking and getting to know one another, felt like a weekend or a lifetime of knowing each other,” Smith says of his first conversation with Cole.

Cole and Smith’s love for one another radiates around them. They say theirs is a special bond that comes solely when love calls and the right person finally answers.

Taking Self-Inventory on what you like about Yourself

We spend a lot time talking about what we don't like about ourselves. Just the other day, I was looking at myself, making self notes about what I needed change about me.

Then later that evening, I stumbled on a blog with a post about what he loved about himself. ( I can't find it, to reference it at this point)

I thought it was brilliant and a wonderful thing to do. I think we should take self-inventory of the things we like or love about ourselves. It's healthy and good for the soul.

So I'm listing some my "loves":

I love my big forehead, my sense of humor, my full lips, my creativity, my hair, my calmness, my strength, my ambitiousness, my willingness to learn and adapt, my eyes, my pudgy nose, my ability to see a different side, to understand the craziness of life, my ability to fall and rise up on my feet, and my calves.

You should try this too, I think it's fun and affirming.

Remember. Honor. Cherish.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, which honors and commemorates the deaths of transgendered individuals who fell victim to intolerance, foolishness, and ignorance.

With so much happening to our brothers and sisters, we much protect our "family" as much as we can.
