Mexico City Legalizes Gay Marriage

Mexico City lawmakers have become the 1st region to legalize gay marriage.

City legislators passed the bill 39-20 on Monday with five lawmakers absent.

Gay marriage is currently allowed in only seven countries and some parts of the United States.

Leftist Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard is widely expected to sign the decision into law.

The bill calls for changing the definition of marriage in the city's civic code. Marriage is currently defined as the union of a man and a woman. The new definition will be "the free uniting of two people."

Great move, Mexico City!

Gay Marriage in New York is No. 1 on the List

Today, Gov. David Paterson is putting gay marriage back on the table.

However, the demon, Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr., has something up his sleeve...he can't be trusted.
"Tomorrow we will have a good time," Diaz Sr. told the DN's Glenn Blain. "Maybe I'm not upset. Maybe I solve the whole the problem tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow we come to an agreement and decide who's really in control."
"Maybe tomorrow...Maybe. I don't know. I'm not saying anything...Who is asking me that? I don't know. Who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow. Tomorrow is always uncertain. Tomorrow may never come."

I don't know, maybe you will be defeated, Ruben? Let's hope so.

More on this later

Maine...Home of Carrie, Pennywise and GAY MARRIAGE

It's real!

Gov. John Baldacci signed the bill that legalizes gay marriage in the state of Maine. Now, they are the 5th state to allow gay marriage.

Here's what Gov. John had to say:

"I have followed closely the debate on this issue. I have listened to both sides, as they have presented their arguments during the public hearing and on the floor of the Maine Senate and the House of Representatives. I have read many of the notes and letters sent to my office, and I have weighed my decision carefully. I did not come to this decision lightly or in haste."

"I appreciate the tone brought to this debate by both sides of the issue. This is an emotional issue that touches deeply many of our most important ideals and traditions. There are good, earnest and honest people on both sides of the question."

"In the past, I opposed gay marriage while supporting the idea of civil unions. I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and of equal protection under the law, and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage."

"Article I in the Maine Constitution states that 'no person shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law, nor be denied the equal protection of the laws, nor be denied the enjoyment of that person's civil rights or be discriminated against.'"

"This new law does not force any religion to recognize a marriage that falls outside of its beliefs. It does not require the church to perform any ceremony with which it disagrees. Instead, it reaffirms the separation of Church and State. It guarantees that Maine citizens will be treated equally under Maine's civil marriage laws, and that is the responsibility of government."

"Even as I sign this important legislation into law, I recognize that this may not be the final word. Just as the Maine Constitution demands that all people are treated equally under the law, it also guarantees that the ultimate political power in the State belongs to the people."

"While the good and just people of Maine may determine this issue, my responsibility is to uphold the Constitution and do, as best as possible, what is right. I believe that signing this legislation is the right thing to do."

Let's keep the Marriage Equality train moving

Iowa, God don't have Time for This

Guess what? Gay marriage is on in Iowa today. I'm still a little shocked that Iowa is the 3rd state that allows us to have a picket fence.

Yet, to some folks are thinking it's the beginning of Satan's reign.

Gloria Villaneuva of Bonaparte organized the statewide prayer service to express her opposition to the Iowa supreme court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage earlier this month. Prayer participants were urged to report to their local county courthouse at 7:45 a.m. and join vigils like this one captured by the Ottumwa Courier.

They say prayer works, however I think I this one prayer that will go unanswered (sorry, to those who believe)

Vermont Legalizes Gay Marriage

Well, well, well...Gov. Douglas' efforts were wasted!

The veto was overridden; the Senate vote was 23-5 and the House vote was 100-49. Under Vermont law, two-thirds of each chamber had to vote for override.

Vermont is the 4th state to permit gay marriage.

Congrats, Vermont and let hope for an open-minded future continue.
