Good News! Fox won't do a Bastard Version of Torchwood!

I'm happy about this!

It looks like Capt. Jack Harkness and his alien-fighting crew are homeless once again.

Fox Broadcasting Co. said it will not move forward with a plan to bring the "Doctor Who" spinoff "Torchwood" directly to American audiences, while BBC Worldwide expressed confidence the series would get off the ground in the United States, just not at Fox.

"BBC Worldwide Productions and the Fox Broadcasting Co. have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized 'Torchwood' format," BBC said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "We are currently in discussion with several interested networks."

Fox would have given up on the series before it got off the ground. Besides there are other networks that could do Torchwood justice.

NY Senate is a Mess

So I promised to have more info on the gay marriage vote in the New York Senate.
Well...I have nothing, because they have nothing.

Organizers for the National LGBT March may need to freshen up their Planning Skills

Great Hera! Our national march thwarted by poor planning?

The organizers of the proposed march on Washington should have checked with the National Parks Service before they began announcing the October dates for that event.

"It's unavailable," a parks service staffer said when Gay City News asked if the National Mall was booked on October 10, 11, and 12, the dates that some organizers have announced for the march.

Three different organizations have permits to hold events on those days on the National Mall, the setting for the gay community's four prior national marches.

Collectively, the three groups are expecting in excess of 135,000 people, which would mean that even if the organizers of the proposed march could get a permit -- and it is doubtful that they could as most groups file for a permit a year in advance -- the gay marchers would be joining a three-day walk-a-thon against breast cancer, a Treasury Department event, and the Million Man March for God.

This is not cute. Somebody should have been on it. Hell, my student leaders are better planners than this.

Again...Are we ready for a civil rights movement?

Twilight blows! Mostly because of the less than cute Vamp-boy and boring leading girl, Bella. Okay, that's my opinion, but here are others.

From the Variety review:

"...a disappointingly anemic tale of forbidden love that should satiate the pre-converted but will bewilder and underwhelm viewers who haven't devoured Stephenie Meyer's bestselling juvie chick-lit franchise."

"But even with angsty rock songs, lurching camerawork and emo-ish voiceover at her disposal, Hardwicke can't get inside the head of her young protagonist, Isabella "Bella" Swan (Kristen Stewart); consequently, Bella's decision to get hot and heavy with a hot-and-hungry vampire, far from seeming like an act of mad, transgressive passion, comes across as merely stupid and ill-considered. The result is a supernatural romance in which the supernatural and romantic elements feel rushed, unformed and insufficiently motivated, leaving audiences with little to do but shrug and focus on the eye-candy."

"Chase-thriller endgame seems to sputter to a halt when it's barely begun."

"'Low-key' is not the adjective you'd expect to describe a highly anticipated vampire movie, but there it is."

Not cute so far. I know, I know. I'm not giving it a chance. But when I had greatness like Buffy, Angel, and Spike for a number of years, the bar is quite high. Twilight did grab something in the geek girl and boy world, but I think in a few years they will look at Twilight, like most of us look at Charmed...as a mess.
