Officials in Dane and Milwaukee counties, however, took Crabb’s declaration that the ban is unconstitutional to mean that they could begin marrying same-sex couples if they wished to do so. Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen sought to stop those marriages with an emergency request for a temporary stay, but no such stay was granted — either by Crabb or the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. Over the course of the week, many other counties in the state began issuing licenses and, on Wednesday, the Wisconsin Vital Records Office began processing the licenses.
Because of the confusion, lawyers for the plaintiffs and the state sped up the process of providing language for Crabb’s injunction in the case, and she held a hearing Friday afternoon to consider that issue, as well as the state’s request for a stay.
"It's a simple question, one to which every Junior High student in America learns the answer. Who rules this country? We the People! Government of the people, by the people, for the people! Simple, clear, and unmistakable — unless you are an unelected federal judge. Then it seems the rule is: I will impose my opinion on an entire state and trample on the people and their will. That's the scene that again has played out, this time in Wisconsin, over the weekend where District Judge Barbara Crabb threw out the state's constitutional marriage amendment and with it the votes of nearly 60% of the people of Wisconsin.
"This is not what our country is about and it certainly is not what our founding fathers envisioned in creating three co-equal branches of government. So it's up to us — it's up to you — to correct this undemocratic attack by what amounts to judicial overlords who seem bent on destroying the most vital institution our nation has — marriage between a man and a woman, united so a child can have the love and nurture of both a mother and a father."Uh, okay. A Wisconsin judge on Friday struck down the state law championed by Gov. Scott Walker that effectively ended collective bargaining rights for most public workers.Gov. Walker must be mad.
It was not clear if the ruling means the law is immediately suspended. The law took away nearly all collective bargaining rights from most workers and has been in effect for more than a year.
Dane County Circuit Judge Juan Colas ruled that the law violates both the state and U.S. Constitution and is null and void. The ruling comes after a lawsuit brought by the Madison teachers union and a union for Milwaukee city employees.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker beat back a recall challenge Tuesday, winning both the right to finish his term and a voter endorsement of his strategy to curb state spending, which included the explosive measure that eliminated union rights for most public workers.He will get his in the end.
The rising Republican star becomes the first governor in U.S. history to survive a recall attempt with his defeat of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and the union leaders who rallied for months against his agenda.
In an interview, Walker said it was time "to put our differences aside and find ways to work together to move Wisconsin forward."
The governor said he planned to invite lawmakers to meet as soon as next week over burgers and brats to discuss ways to bridge the political divide.
