The Don't Say Gay Bill is Back, Requiring Teachers to tell the Parents their kids is Gay
This damn bill is back and causing a foolishness alert across my home state. After it's 'death' last year, I guess the creators of this bill thought it needed more mess added to it.
The general assembly recognizes that certain subjects are particularly sensitive and are, therefore, best explained and discussed within the home. Because of its complex societal, scientific, psychological, and historical implications, human sexuality is one such subject. Human sexuality is best understood by children with sufficient maturity to grasp its complexity and implications [...]
A school counselor, nurse, principal or assistant principal from counseling a student who is engaging in, or who may be at risk of engaging in, behavior injurious to the physical or mental health and well-being of the student or another person; provided, that wherever possible such counseling shall be done in consultation with the student’s parents or legal guardians. Parents or legal guardians of students who receive such counseling shall be notified as soon as practicable that such counseling has occurred. So now, the kid could be in danger of getting beaten, kicked out or worse. These fools are not thinking of the children's best interest.

Meet Brian Stevens, the man who's running against Stacey "Don't Say Gay" Campbell
Tennessee has been getting a bad rap lately, mostly because of the idiot Stacey Campbell. He has been known to strongly push the anti-gay message in my home state; first through the "Don't Say Gay" Bill and then his stupid remarks about AIDS and where it came from.
But now, there's someone who's really wants to knock Stacey off his mantle. His name is Brian Stevens.
East Tennessee News reports
Stevens’ political platform focuses mainly on equal human rights, education, employment and environmental issues.Minority discrimination is a serious problem all over the nation but, for various reasons, the issue is festering and growing worse in some parts of the country: Knoxville is one of them. Opposed to representing select groups of people, Stevens wants to be an ally to all minority groups and focus his campaign, political career and legislation on representing ALL the citizens of his district and state.Stevens is constantly meeting with people to develop ideas and strategies that address Tennessee’s consistently low ranking education system. He’s particularly concerned with the rising cost of college and protecting the existing scholarship and grant programs.
Brian wants to change the negative images Tennessee has towards gays. Hopefully, he's elected to work on the mess Stacey and others have made in my home state. Also he describe himself as a social libertarian which could be very interesting down there in the South.

Here's more:
Speaking in Hearing Room 5 at the State Capitol, Wyatt condemned what he called a “horrible bill” that would make illegal nearly all discussions on homosexuality in public schools, including conversations between students and school staff about their own sexuality. He also had more to say:
Wyatt, who last week issued a statement addressing his concerns on the bill and related his experiences being bullied as a child, called on his fellow Republicans to join him in the fight against bullying and in removing HB2051 from consideration.
“Today I ask you to stand with me as a proud Republican, a proud veteran, and a proud gay man who wants to protect all kids, addressing bullying in our schools,” Wyatt said.
“I will not lie to myself anymore about my own sexuality. It has probably been the hardest thing to come to terms with. I have always ignored it. I didn’t even think about it or want to talk about it. I’ve not been immune to it. I hear the comments, usually snide ones, about me,” Wyatt said.Good for you, Zach!
“I am not the first or last Republican to come out. I have just gotten tired of the bigotry being shown on both sides of the aisle on gay issues. Being gay has never been a Republican or Democrat issue, and it should never be.”

Tennessee's Don't Say Gay Bill is Dead... Maybe?
| Rep. Joey Hensley, R-Hohenwald |
The decision by Rep. Joey Hensley, R-Hohenwald, means that SB49 will die with the adjournment of the 107th General Assembly. Legislative leaders hope that will be today.Folks were saying that the subject matter wouldn't be taught to 'kids' in the first place. I thought that was clear. I think there's more to the story, perhaps common sense?
Hensley said the officials of the Department of Education and the state Board of Education have pledged to send a letter to all Tennessee schools "telling them they cannot teach this subject in grades kindergarten through eight."
"With that assurance and the opposition of some people who didn't want to vote on it, I've decided simply not to bring it up," said Hensley.
We will see how they handle the rest of the year.

Missouri creates their own "Don't Say Gay" Bill
Missouri has jumped on the crazy train and put a "Don't Say Gay' bill on the table.
HuffPo reports:
A group of 20 Republican state representatives introduced the so-called "don't say gay" bill last week to prevent the teaching of sexual orientation in public schools, with the exception of classes relating to human reproduction. The group includes some of the most powerful Republicans in the Missouri legislature -- House Speaker Steve Tilley (R-Perryville), Majority Leader Tim Jones (R-Eureka) and the chairs of the Rules and the Ways and Means committees. Tennessee legislators have been debating a similar proposal. There's nothing going on, idiot! Do they really believe that 'gay' is a four letter word? Wow these folks are stupid. I hope this falls out.
"When it comes to sexual orientation, that is a discussion that should be left for the most part up to the parents," House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Andrew Koenig (R-Winchester) told HuffPost. "It is a pretty political subject. I know there are a lot of parents that do not want the homosexual agenda taught in the schools."
Koenig said he has heard of what he called a "homosexual agenda" being taught in elementary school, but when questioned, said he did not know of specific incidents "off the top of my head."
