In West Virginia: Nearly half of Sanders Voters would vote for Trump

Nearly half of the voters in the West Virginia Democratic primary who backed Bernie Sanders say they would vote for Republican Donald Trump in the fall presidential election, according to exit polls reported by CBS News.

Forty-four percent of Sanders supporters surveyed said they would rather back the presumptive GOP nominee in November, with only 23 percent saying they'd support Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. And 31 percent said would support neither candidate in the likely general election match-up.

Anti-LGBT RFRA Bill dies in West Virginia

Another RFRA bill dies. This time in West Virginia.

Lawmakers tried to push this Religious Freedom Restoration Act bill (HB 4012) through their state Senate. They used the same old message about religious freedom and whatnot, but it all failed. Senate voted 27-7, killing the bill like Michael Myers kills teens.

While this is a victory, it's still a small one. You can still be fired for being LGBT there. So, West Virginians still have some work to do.

West Virginia Attorney General will not Defend the Gay Marriage Ban

Good News!

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey will not defend the state’s ban on gay marriage! Now the path is clear for marriage equality in West Virginia!

AG Morrisey said:

“While we disagree ... and believe it improperly displaces state and local decision-making, we will respect it. It is my duty to defend state laws that have been passed by the state Legislature and are consistent with the Constitution. We have discharged this duty faithfully.

“Recent rulings ... make it clear that laws banning same-sex marriage have been declared unconstitutional,” Tomblin said in a prepared release. “Our state is known for its kindness and hospitality to residents and visitors alike. I encourage all West Virginians—regardless of their personal beliefs—to uphold our statewide tradition of treating one another with dignity and respect.”

In West Virginia: School Board take action to Protect LGBT Students

The West Virginia Board of Education passed a new bullying policy to protect LGBT students.

Metro Weekly has the story:

As Fairness West Virginia announced on Facebook, "Policy 4373 passes! LGBT students expressly protected from bullying under WV state board[.] The decision was unanimous." The group says the move constitutes the first time that sexual orientation and gender identity were included in the state's anti-bullying policies.


Fairness West Virginia executive director Bradley Milam told Metro Weekly, "We put our whole weight behind this policy, we supported it through and through. We met with the Department of Education ... and had recommended enumation very similar to the kind that's in Policy 4373 that was approved today."

In the new policy's definitions of "Harassment/Bullying/Intimidation," which the policy prohibits, it specifies, "Acts of harassment, intimidation, or bullying that are reasonably perceived as being motivated by any actual or perceived differentiating characteristic, or by association with a person who has or is perceived to have one or more of these characteristics, shall be reported using the following list: race; color; religion; ancestry; national origin; gender; socioeconomic status; academic status; gender identity or expression; physical appearance; sexual orientation; mental/physical/developmental/ sensory disability; or other characteristic."

This is very good and a little surprising coming from the WV.

West Virginia's Anti-Bullying Policy proposes LGBT Protections

West Virginia schools will present an anti-bullying policy that includes sexual orientation and gender identity. This is the 1st time WV has proposed LGBT protections in the school's policies.

Here's the story:

The state Department of Education is taking public comments until 4 p.m. Tuesday about the 75-page student conduct and disciplinary policy that the Board of Education will consider Dec. 14. If approved, the changes that acknowledge the targeting of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students would go into effect July 1, 2012.

The civil rights group Fairness West Virginia lauds the enumeration of reasons why children are bullied as "a landmark achievement" that effectively provides political and legal cover to teachers, counselors and others who might hesitate to intervene for an LGBT student.

"Teachers may feel they're putting their reputation or job at stake by protecting a student," said executive director Bradley Milam. "But now, they can simply point to the policy."

I wish them luck in making this policy real for the LGBT students and community in West Virginia.

In West Virginia? I guess so

Well, I'm impressed.

For the first time in a long time, West Virginia's House of Delegates voted to kill this session's chances to ban gay marriage.

A Cultural terrorist (evangelical) group tried their best to pimp God's word on the issue, but failed in their efforts.

The delegates voted 67-30 to reject the attempt. And the 29 House Repubs voted to move the measure from the committee.

I have to say that's a big step for the place that promoted the Gay Snipers looking to destroy loving straight families. Perhaps the stupid haze is fading? Maybe not so fast, but who knows, WV may change the game and become the next gay marrying state.

We can dream, right?

West Virginia is Half way there

Remember when I talked about a video suggesting gay snipers would attack family values. Well that was from some crazy folks in West Virginia hoping to stop a gay rights bill from passing.

So fast forward a month later to the West Virginia Senate meeting. The senators just approved that bill on Friday.

However, the bill has to go through the House, where it failed the year before.

If this passes, our community would be protected from job and housing discrimination...Good Luck down there in WV.

Maybe the Gay Snipers won't target everyone there.
